Recruiting Forum Football Talk [RIP 9.3.2019]

The talk about Mehlen had me thinking about our talent and if he would have done better here so I went and looked. It's worse than I realized, that's why I posted it. So no, he would not have done better. Its conceivable that we could've gone 3-9 this year. Craziness.
Talent has been an issue, but I dont know how one could, with certainty, say Mullen would have done better, the same, or worse if he had come here instead of Pruitt. The only thing is that Mullen actually has a history showing how well he can coach, while Pruitt does not. Your post really doesnt show much IMO other than we have a lot of work to do recruiting.

Again tho, lot to say for development. There hasn't been any here until Pruitt and company arrived.
I agree. I think it’s a combination of things where there is a lot of blame to go around. Poor eval, poor development, change of scheme, lack of motivation etc. it all adds up to a bad season which is what we got. Hopefully we won’t have another.

It shows that we have an extremely low talent level while Florida will probably have 5-7 draft picks this year. It shows that...

Hopefully he changes the culture in one year like Kirby did

Genuine question, without insults...

Are you actually aware that that Miss State team (#1) best wins were against 3 five loss teams? They also went 10-3.

For context, Kentucky went 10-3 this season and had a much better win against Florida. Would you say they were deserving of being #1 this year? Probably 20 teams fit the same mold, every year.
Not insulting you, I love you

A 10-3 Mississippi State team was unheard of before Mullen got there. Some of you are acting like Mullen took over a winning program and just maintained. He won 10 games there which was the first time since 99 and the 3rd time in the program's history.

It’s also a question that has no real answer and so many components going into it.

We just saw Oklahoma state, Baylor, Iowa, and Virginia beat teams we couldn’t or didn’t and i don’t think anyone could really say that they were that much more if at all more talented than us.
agree. and i think a lot of that comes down to recruiting for your strengths. something i don't believe Butch Jones did very well. and something that will take Jeremy Pruitt a while to get to as he turns the roster over.

What was really crazy... i said before the year that our roster was actually better suited for a 3-4 than it was a 4-3 which is absolutely ridiculous if you think about it but...

Alexis Johnson, Phillips, Kongbo, and Taylor probably all had their best years in new positions lol.

He also played Southern Miss, UAB, South Alabama, and UT Martin. One of my arguments against Mullen's record is that he bolstered it by playing bad OOC schedules. The SEC didn't require a P5 game until recently.

Went a bowl game at 5-7 in 2016.

yeah, i was one that actually thought the change to a 3-4 would help. if for no other reason, it helped with depth on the DL, at least numbers wise...lol.

i do think they were stubborn offensively. i got it as to why they did what htey did philiosophically, and it still make sesne. but, if you wanted to win a game or two more, there were things we could have done with our WR's and QB to compensate for the bad O Line.

i bought (and still do) the notion that it's a development year, and we simply don't have the luxury (roster wise) to experiement. we needed to find out what they could do relative to what the staff expects, and if they could get any better for it.

hopefully with as much as we will have coming back from the 2 deep, that will pay dividends in 2019. we'll see.

I have never wanted Mullen here.
i had pretty much talked myself in to Mullen coming here. at that point i was perfectly fine with having a guy that could win 9 games year in and year out. considering what we have had up to that point, that was going to be a win. plus there was no one outside our fanbase that was going to be poo pooing that hire. it would have been lauded by everyone. if nothing else, outside looking in, the percepiton would be that we were getting our crap together and making a very solid hire.

but i never could get myself to think that he was going to be a championship caliber coach, year in, year out. still don't. i do think he has a better chance of catching lightning in a bottle at FL than he would here. the recruiting ultimately would be what would hold him back here, where he can have 4*'s fall in his lap at UF.

Hopefully he changes the culture in one year like Kirby did
we'll see who else departs before fall. he's done a good job selling teh change up to this point.

but like with everything, he's going to need results to back up the pitch. and siap, but this team will younger before it gets better. and i think we're just gonna have to live with that for the time being. next year will be interesting for sure. we'll have some solid players coming back, and we'll be counting on several of the incoming freshmen to make contributions now.

the one thing i will say, i really like the apparent relationship many of these incoming recruits have with each other. seems as though they've really taken a liking to each other, so that should help.

last, just need to see who the leaders are going to be in the locker room.

Take a break.

Dang, y’all are moving fast today!

May have missed it along the way, but if we get Chaney, any chance Fields would come barring a block from UGA? I’d think they def block the transfer, but idk?
