The Official Tennessee Titans thread IV

Like the staff and the defense for the most part. But Marcus and zero talent at wr are huge issues. Corey Davis and Taylor are jokes. I said it when they were drafted.

Maybe the off season will answer these issues. Also, no Steelers........crap! Hurry up baseball season. Pitches and Catches in about 2 months!!!!!!

If this is at all true he shouldn’t even be given next year. I can put up with a lot but a quitter has no place here. I just can’t imagine Mariota not going if he could, unless it was all about career preservation knowing full well he wasn’t going to be staying here.

Don’t think he actually gets too much of a say in the matter if the Titans organization doctors decided they wouldn’t allow him to play, really.

You know we are are so coming down hard on Gabbert, me included but you know what? He shouldn't even be playing right now, you know who should? Mariota, it was his decision. Word around Nashville being leaked is that he elected not to play.

I was up in the air about Mariotta but as time goes by I can't help but think we made a mistake. I wonder if we could put together a package to trade for a couple of picks this year and sign a mediocre QB to a two or three year deal and draft our guy a year or two down the road.

Coming from where, out of curiosity? Fans?

Asking also because after the game seeing a bunch of:

John Glennon (@glennonsports) on Twitter (For some reason the board won’t post this in its actual twitter box: Titans’ Vrabel: Mariota wanted to play. Decision was made by a number of people. Not him.)

If that is the case then the Titan peeps knew we had no shot if we made the playoffs which is probably true. Still sucks though not having a chance.

He definitely gets next year IMO. 5th year option. Plus this upcoming QB class is a joke. But I would be putting him and “his people” on notice in pretty short order. He has done absolutely nothing in 4 years to warrant a new deal.

I will correct this to say the last 2 years **

Never been less surprised by anything than I was about losing this game to the Colts. Again. I know this injury is worse than a lot of people think and Stingers are nothing to mess around with but it's still an unseen injury and so the optics of him not playing in a win and in game are going to burn a lot of goodwill with a lot of fans.

I'm disappointed as hell that we didn't make the playoffs but all in all, I think this was a fairly successful season considering we have an entirely new staff and multiple, major injuries to significant contributors. Time to get better, see y'all at the draft.

Game went pretty much as I expected outside of the overall game plan implemented by the offensive staff. It baffles me they evidently believed Gabbert was capable of winning this game, considering the first 3 drives saw us throw the ball twice as much as handing it to Henry. It seems Vrabel and LaFleur thought they could catch the Colts by surprise by leaning on Gabbert's short passing game instead of doing the right thing by feeding their franchise record breaking RB. I thought it obvious that we had to play a ball control game to come out with a win, however the Colts ended up holding onto the ball for 40 minutes of the game while running 26 more plays than the Titans. That made the job of our defense needlessly harder, especially considering we put two of our best defensive players on IR last week. I still thought the defense played average tonight given that the other side of the team offered them hardly any help.

Standouts tonight were Luck and Jayon Brown.

Luck is just too good against the blitz and against zones schemes to stop, which is unfortunate as our main way of applying pressure is zone blitz calls. We simply do not have the talent up front to get consistent pressure with only rushing 4, which admittedly necessitates some of those play calls to some extent. Luck continuously found the open zones and picked us apart, and he could either throw open his receivers or rely on them to make contested catches.

Jayon Brown single highhandedly kept us in the game with his pick six; that was a 14 point swing. He also jumped on that fumble. He might be a our best ILB. I think we are set at ILB for years to come if Brown continues his great play and Evans continues his development. I also haven't heard this reported much, but Evans has been graded out as one of the top ILB the past 3 weeks.

This is where I am at with him at this point too. He gets next year but we need to be eyeing that 2020 QB class pretty heavily, should be a good one.

Another 7-9 win season probably puts them out of position to draft a franchise QB. Then it's break the bank, which they've never done, or trade away the future. Buzz kill but the best path forward is probably 0-16 in 2019.

I feel bad for Mariota but I'm about 95% sure next year is his last with the Titans and most likely his last season as a fulltime starter.

Marvin Lewis better not complain, he got WAY too long in Cincy.

That's the biggest surprise so far. My dad is a Bengals fan so I follow them closely, he has been wanting him out for years now. I figured he'd be a life-time coach there with Mike Brown as Cincy's owner.
