I’d like to see College Football work like this...
Eight 16 team conferences. Each with two 8 team divisions. Require Notre Dame and service academies to join a conference in order to be eligible to play for championship. All conferences have a championship game between the two division winners.
11 regular season games: play all 7 division opponents, 1 or 2 interdivision games, 2 or 3 out of conference games.
All 8 conference champs are seeded according to strength of schedule in the championship bracket.
That would be 7 very meaningful bowls, and all other bowls consolation. The college football set up has not devalued any of the other bowls (although the case could be made for the Rose Bowl since they’re no longer guaranteed to have Big 10 champ vs. PAC 12 Champ, but that actually goes back to the start of BCS in ‘98), if anything, it has increased the value of the 2 that serve as semifinals.
