The speed of the game has changed through the years, it is much faster. However, the technique with tackling has deteriorated. It's all about make the big hit now. Until they whiff or the ballcarrier bounces off and keeps running. Back in the 60's, 70's and 80's players were trained to keep their heads up no matter the situation or side of the ball. On D you would square up if you had the angle, head up and to the side of the chest area, and wrap while driving through the tackle with your legs. Running backs/receivers/QB's were trained to never lower their heads - ever. They do it more times than not now.

It's all in the rules, coaching, and how the officials enforce it. They can change it back if they want to bad enough. It's ridiculous how they handle it all now.

Tackling is still taught to either have your facemask in the ball carriers, ball side or in the center of the ball carriers chest while wrapping up and driving through the ball carrier.

The kids just aren’t doing it. A lot of kids go low for the legs. Because of how big players are nowadays.

Not really. Don't be an a**hat. Pretty easy. The penalty happened during the play, so must be assessed as such. Why can't kids just act like they have been there before? Act like it's just business? You don't have to showboat. Be civil, celebrate with your team and go on.

There isn't a single other unsportsmanlike penalty that factors in the location of the penalty. They are always assessed after the play. It is arbitrary, dumb, and inconsistent with the other rules on the same topic. Add to it that it is disproportionately harsh. Taking points away during a play in which the taunt made no difference in the outcome of the play is arbitrary and pointless.

I do agree about that, negating the TD is stupid. The penalty should have been enforced on EP or kickoff.

Penalty happened before the touchdown (around the 15 to goal line), so theoretically it shouldn't count as a touchdown. Unsportsmanlike on celebrations are after the touchdown, so the touchdown stands. Don't know if anything exists where a offensive penalty occurs before a touchdown and the touchdown counts. If it does than maybe it should count.

Edit: Welp, should have read ahead. This is already discussed. Carry on.

I had no idea who he was. I had a job to perform an inspection at his house in Hermitage. Very cool house. Afterwards I looked him up, it’s pretty easy listening. Before my time, but classic sound. He died in 2016.

Saw him perform in the outfield of Ingle Stadium when I was in my real early teens.

Yes..... but in reality that was said because I had a post deleted earlier for name calling where I said idiot. I don't agree with your sentiment but don't feel like typing it all out so I will agree to disagree.

Generally, the one claiming to not want to waste effort typing a rebuttal, and then saying "agree to disagree" does not have a position founded on solid reasoning. You may agree to disagree, but I'm just going to go ahead and claim the "W" on this one. Thanks. And don't bother responding. We're done here.

Some coaches, like Carroll in Seattle, are teaching a style of rugby tackling. While watching the Seattle vs Dallas game this year, the Seahawks defense made a number of terrific stops. I don’t watch Seattle often, but I thought their tackling in that game was excellent. VN discussed this type of tackling before and I think some links were posted, but here are two about Seattle’s style.

The Seahawks' dominating defense uses a safer rugby style of tackling, and it could change the NFL

That is not just rugby style tackling though. That is how tackling was always supposed to be taught. That’s exactly how I was taught to tackle.
