About when did "no-showing" in bowl games become more common? Is that just a thing when teams don't want to be there for whatever reason? Anyone got any examples from past years?

Also, what about NFL prospects sitting out bowl games? That has mos def become the cool thing to do in the last 2 - 4 years, but are there many instances when a player opted out of a bowl game before this "era"?

What are the causes, and what are some possible solutions (e.g. expanded playoff via the existing bowl games)?

Bueller?

Honestly, Yurcich's complete sidestep when asked about our OC job yesterday is the most solid piece of coaching rumor info. that's come out of our search. Two weeks ago he said there was nothing going on but yesterday it's all 'let's think about the seniors.' With this much time having passed I'm not sure why he wouldn't just issue a flat out no if he'd turned us down.

I think the focus of the playoffs with only 4 teams has really hurt the excitement of going to a bowl. All that the media talks about is who will be those 4 teams. The only thing that will change it is expanding the number of teams in the playoff with each team being able to go to the next round with a win in the bowl. Teams would try harder, and players would stick around.

Unless, of course, he’s leaving for Ohio State.

I don’t think a reputable national reporter would have thrown that out there unless there’s something to it.

This was what the BCS was trying to prevent. They knew when they were designing it that if you messed with things too much you'd take away from both the regular season and the bowl season and that those were the two things that made college football unique. The playoff system just doesn't feel the same. It doesn't excite me the same way the old setup did. Some folks want NFL-lite (more and more playoffs where the regular season matters less and less). I don't. I want college ball where the regular season matters and there's still a lot of pride to play for in bowls.

Yeah, but that seems to over. I think the endless media focus on only the playoff teams has a lot to do with it. They rarely even talk about the other bowl games.

They asked him about UT not tOSU. He could've issued a flat denial and left for tOSU the next day without having lied. It would've been an easier answer to give than the electric slide of a dance he did around things.

Maybe it's just a guilty conscience because he's planning to go somewhere whether it's us, tOSU, or anywhere else but a simple no would've been easy to do without having to worry about lying to the press/fans.

I did too initially, but just hearing how Rumph was all over him in practice day-in-day-out, he just seemed like a filler type of player. Hearing about him transfers registers like a 0.05 on my richter scale.

Latrell, though.. In a 2017 class that was chock-full of filler guys, I had some hopes for him.

Best of luck to them both.
The enthusiastically defended “depth class.”

Have you heard Gundy’s reaction to all these rumors? I thought they were pretty telling.
