Hyams on OC

Didn’t his team get curb stomped by 49 today?

He also beat at top 3 team in the country this year. Purdue was dead last in the B10 West before he took over, they finished 3rd in 2017 and 2nd this year. Their recruiting was 14th in the Big 10 the year before he arrived and 70th or so nationally. His first year they were 11th/51st. This year they were 5th/25th. He's rapidly improving them. They'll win 9+ games in year 3 for him most likely.

I'm convinced it will be someone he knows over someone he doesn't. Either has worked with, played with or coached them.

I hope that means it’s still the best realistic candidate for the job instead of just because they’ve worked together before.

The "rapid" stalled out this year. They were 7-6 last year, 6-7 this year.

Well, when you are favored by 17 and lose double digits, I’d say it doesn’t look like he had the best game as a HC. Totally different situations except they are exactly the same, meaningless bowl game. You might want to call all the many schools that continue to try to hire him tho (as 1st choice mind you) and tell them your expert advice that he really isn’t a good coach.
Slow your roll scooter, you said he was a top 15 coach. He hasn’t proven anything at all and a “top 15” coach doesn’t get beat by 55 plus in a bowl game. Yeah losing by 14 and being thumped to death by the middle of the second quarter is exactly the same thing.......

AU took a knee on the 1 at the end.

They only lost by 49.

No, it continued. Their standing went up in the Big 10, they beat Ohio State and their recruiting greatly improved. Overall a very successful first two years at a program that recruits and performs historically on par with Vandy. Before this cycle they hadn't had a top 50 recruiting class in the 2010s.

No one would feel the need to state the obvious if our HC wasn't taking 2 months to fill a position he thinks is insignificant.

I think it was ridiculous for him to say that about the OC position.

This will probably be the decision that makes or breaks Pruitt's tenure with the Vols so he had better nail the hire because his defense wasn't anything special without Alabama or FSU level players this season.

No point whatsoever to Hyams article however.

The sum of the 2 were better than recent history yes.

But no, it didnt continue "rapidly" from one to the other.

By comparison his second season was not better than his first. You dont get an extra win for OSU no different than 2 Ls for losing to a coach that's school is trying to fire him by 49. Or losing to Eastern Michigan.

If 7-6 to 6-7 is "rapid" Pruitt is off the charts in his first season.

Brohm got his team to a bowl game and managed to stay within 30 of Missouri this year.

Just sayin.
I’m not saying he is a terrible coach, never said as much. I just disagree that he’s in the top 15 and even attempting to compare him to Saban is a bit ridiculous and lacking for a reasonable argument.

He wants to be a head coach. Just saw our last oc get a head coaching job after one season. Not too hard to figure out...
Are you saying Tennessee would put him into a better position to land a head coaching job than ND? I cannot disagree with that more if so. The oline issues we have aren't going to be fixed right away. I think Pruitt has done a good job trying to address them but it's going to take a few years of S&C to get back where we need to be offensively. Norte Dame is ready to compete on the national stage year in and out.

Absolutely. Saban is the only one who belongs in Sabans class among current coaches.

Guess we'll agree to disagree then.

Yeah, I remember. He was going to bring Gruden in as OC and Bill Cowher in as DC. lol

He's on the record when asked about it after it all settled last year.

As far as Brohm, however, he doesn’t deny the actual discussions with Tennessee or an interest from both parties, telling Courier Journal, “Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.”
Hyams report stated that Tennessee was "closing in on a deal" with Brohm. Later he said UT balked at the 5 million dollar buyout.
