Yurcich was a no name from Division 2 before Gundy found him. He'd never even coached in FBS or FCS other than as a grad assistant. I don't know why Helton didn't work out but that shouldn't really deter us from going after a great offensive mind at any level. There's risks in all of the candidates including Yurcich and Sark.
Yer right.

Yeah, Gus making Chip look REAL bad.

Eh it's Purdue AND it's a bowl game. This is going to be the narrative but nothing Auburn is doing today is representative of how things go in the regular season even with Gus calling plays. Against Purdue with weeks to prepare he can call things that he just can't call in the regular season (the talent disparity and length of time to plan is just that different).

That was last year's philosophy. Trying to execute a power run offense with not enough power runners behind a porous OL didn't work out so well. This year, coaches are telling recruits we're going to be a "pass happy" offense and spread it out 3-4 receivers wide. We didn't have the personnel for a power run offense last year and we didn't recruit for a pass happy offense this year.

If this were a movie, we'd be at the Act 2 turning point, restless and anxious to see how it all resolves to give us a Hollywood ending.
Power Pass Happy?

Gundy taking that risk when he did and Pruitt taking it are very very different things.

Gundy was a QB, came up on the offensive side and was an OC. If the hire doesn’t work he could easily have stepped in and called plays.

Pruitt needs someone legit that can run that side of the ball and let him focus on the program and the defense.

Pruitt hiring an up and comer type or another Helton would be very very risky imo

I know exactly what Pruitt said.

He said the OC was overrated/not all that important and that is more about the players. You can say he wasn't being literal but your take was way off base. The article was much more accurate than you.
Except it neglected to mention that no one will care when we win. And also neglected to mention that Pruitt does not care at all about the "optics."

dunno didley about the princeton kid.

i'd be just short of over the moon with Yurcich. and i'd be just fine with Sark, he's just not as bad as some portray. the guy was very good at USC and Washington. i don't really care what he did in Atlanta. but he wasn't as bad there as some say either.

i see why some of you are going back to thinking it's yurcich. just feel like waiting until after a liberty bowl game is a little weird. it's not a NY6, or play off game. anyway, those thinking "he didn't deny" are correct. he didn't.

i'm just not ready to get back on that train.

part of me still thinks it's someone we haven't really discussed or heard of too much yet. lol.

Here’s the deal with Sark. Late and game on the line or need a first down or two to salt the game away, he chokes. Calls a what the heck play.

Auburn & Purdue about to play

I respect the heck out of Brohm for turning down Louisville. After the whole inspirational season with that kid who is suffering terribly becoming such a rallying point and public figure, it would have been crushing for him to leave after all he did.

Props... now go whip Auburn
Ai chihuahua.

Exactly

Not fond of 4-2-4 guys that went to small 4 year schools either. The recruit we lost to USC late was that. Didn't want him because of that

What about elite athletes that just don't qualify academically out of HS but qualify out of JUCO? There's been tons of those that have turned into top college and pro players.

Yea no one cares about such things in good times but when you lose the champions of life stuff gets overblown.

If they are highly rated yea I am in for those guys. EG is one of those guys but the success rate on guys like Kongo are very low. Kongbo is a success story compared to most

Agreed and who overblows it? The media. So, I am fine with what he said and I think you said you agree with him too, so let's just hug it out and call it a day :)

I don't disagree really. It would be risky. I just think they all would so I'd rather they hire whoever they feel has the best offensive mind with the most ability to be creative and adapt to personnel. I don't know who that is. Could be Yurcich or Sark. Or it could be Gleeson or someone else we haven't thought about yet. Or even some combo of Friend and Osevet. I don't really care. I would be fine with any of the names listed.

Overall I agree with him but his op said the quote was "about recruits committing to head coaches and schools". That wasn't accurate at all

Also fans overblow it when times are bad. Butch didn't deserve the ridicule for that line.

Just like Pruitt will get hammered if this OC doesn't work for this line.

I agree with you, BUT Auburn was in a very similar situation last year against UCF. Who knows if Lindsey was a big part of Auburn’s problems lately or not, just saying the optics aren’t in his favor. Malzahn is obviously scheming for his job here, Purdue’s lack of defensive speed is just making it that much easier.

Optics are a funny thing. They're often misleading but I'm not going to complain too much when this win by Auburn is going to make our Win over Auburn look really good - lol.

I do agree a better playcaller will help some, but nofreakinbody will get much more than 3.5 pts a game improvement out of this offense until they start executing blocking assignments better.
I agree the players have a lot to do with it but I think the coaching or lack there of had a lot to do with it too. They either can't motivate them or can't teach them. That's one reason we don't have an OC right now. It's much harder to block the guy across from you when he doesn't have to think. We seldom made defenses have to think this past season.
