@scvolfan7 curious as to why you all think that?
Bruin brought up the TEs. Our primary receivers and the ones we signed don’t really remind me of guys like Washington, Ateman, McClesky, etc that played there. Guys like Murphy, Latrell williams, jacquez Jones, and maybe Tillman might fit it better but callaway/Keyton/Jennings would be a bit of an odd fit. Also I’m skeptical of the linemen we signed fitting in an uptempo offense. They all look like big guys that are there to run an offense similar to UGA where we pound the ball.

I wouldn’t hate the hire but I’m just concerned of fit. I guess this whole thing is ultimately up to Pruitt staying out of the new OCs way.

Yea same. I’m cool with using one. Assuming our OL gets a lot better by default. We actually have a pretty good 11 personnel returning. (If WRs return)

WR:
I like 11 and 12 personnel a lot. If you have the right TEs, 12 personnel can be really hard to defend because you can split one or both TEs out into 11 or 10 and have mismatches in the passing or run game based on defensive personnel. Just really opens up the playbook to be able to adapt to any defense IMO. The Eagles have done a lot of that this year. The Pats when they still had Aaron Hernandez were probably the best at it. The Bucs early in the season had some good plays with it. The Bears and Ravens have had some success with it as well. And I think next year we'll have excellent personnel for 2 TE sets and will be more suited to max protect to help our line out as well.

I may be in the minority here but “power run” based offense is such an out dated term and honestly just saying your offense is archaic or unwilling to take risks.

I can’t think of one good offense pro or college who uses 22 personnel or a heavy packages as a staple to their offense.
May want to check the Baltimore Ravens as they have gone to power run with Jackson at QB. It has keyed their recent run (plus their defense)

I actually don’t think he wants that. He is too aggressive in going for it and stuff. Nothing about screams conservative.

I don't either. What I observed tells me he wants the ability to run downhill instead of tricking it up with a timing dictated offense like Malzahn. Other than that he knows the advantage of a spread O and the passing game. He was in the SEC/there as Kiffin opened up the O and saw what it meant. The perception some have the plodding O from Bama of old is just wrong IMO.

Titans have the same issue. Lafleur does the same junk as Helton - totally forgets the downhill run and swing passes to the RB's. He starts running counters, traps and outside screens when his O-line is poor at them. When he works it back to downhill one cut and go runs with swings in space along with the short to intermediate routes to the receivers the O-line gets it done.

JMO - when did we see our most consistent success on O? Not the Auburn jump ball miracle. It was when Helton ran the short passing game with zone blocked downhill run game that led to play action passing. The pressure could not get to JG as fast. He just did not have Chandler available to take full advantage of it in some games due to being dinged up.

Exactly. I don't think there's any evidence that's what he wants. All of the offensive assistants and OC candidates he seems to target are the opposite of what people assume he wants to run. To me it seems like he wants to be able to run when he wants to and especially be able to pick up short yardage with the run, but also have an explosive downfield passing game.

A lot of the assumptions are based on what Pruitt has said he wants to run. And now he's saying something different. So nobody really knows because it hasn't been clearly articulated.

Washington and Ateman are pretty similar to what we have. They were just used better.

So Allen, Williams, Mcbride, Brooks, Antonutti, Sapp, and likely Trey Smith will all be gone. Who else am i missing?
