Peteino, Shottenheimer, Saban, Harbaugh are just a few I can think of off the top of my head that opted for college jobs over NFL opportunities in recent years. Not saying that Sark or Kitchens will choose us or anything, I just don’t think you can count any candidate out just because they may have NFL opportunities as well.
It happens, but on the whole it’s pretty rare, I think we would agree.

Harbaugh was going to be fired in San Fran, Saban left for the best football job available, and the players in Atlanta hated Petrino.

It’s not impossible, just seems unlikely to me. Especially considering where our program is right now.

Yeeaaah. I figured. She's a perfectionist, was valedictorian in high school, graduated with like a 3.7+ GPA (I did too but, my degrees are in Criminal Justice--not that hard), and said that she nearly cried when she made a B in her Junior year--first time she'd ever made one.

She's my rock and fully supported me when I completed my degrees in the last decade. I'm 100% supportive...just...wondering how much stress I should expect.

If she gets down/stressed out tell her this story as I genuinely think it will help...

My mother who was in her 60s at the time was required to complete a certification course by the HMO run office she works for (apparently the government pays out more for every employee who is certified). This course entailed everything imaginable and once you passed it you were certified to teach the course to others. Well, several young RNs had already taken it and failed it and my mother who'd worked in medicine all her life (hospitals and doctor' offices) but who'd never gone to college was terrified because she had to pass it (she started out as an office worker but her docs had basically turned her into a nurse with the responsibilities she was given). To add to the stress, the units she had to complete were online before she went to an in person test site and my mother was largely computer illiterate. (She was in absolute panic over all of this and figured it would wind up costing her, her job).

I taught her how to do her online study units but the first thing she had to learn was how to login! I don't think I've ever seen someone more stressed but I told her she could do this and encouraged her. After some practice she got good at it and then she buckled down and studied. When test day came she passed on the first try even though several of the RNs who had far more of a formal medical education failed.

If my Mom, whose only education was business school (back when that was a separate thing from college), can do something like that then your wife can definitely pass her curriculum with flying colors. It's not about how smart you are or how much education you start with but about how hard you work to accomplish it and in the end, it's absolutely worth the feeling of pride you get. The stress is just that: stress but ultimately she'll prevail.

I remember when you tried to act like an insider during the first Gruden go round.

Never acted like an insider, said I have had the pleasure of meeting the Haslams several times and other players and coaches through golf. And, it was pretty common knowledge through them that Jon Gruden was never coming to UT. If some on here were dumb enough to believe he was then I don’t know what to tell you

I think people want to assume Hubbs doesn’t know anything when it makes people we *like* look better, but when the information is positive he’s a genius.

In this coaching search in particular, people rag on Hubbs having no information because they *want* to believe there’s this hidden plan being worked out in private - and not that this entire search has been a fustercluck.
Knowing something and being able to post it on your webpage are 2 different things.

Not that most dont know but Hubbs has been in the game long enough to know if you know something that cant be made public you dont make it public.

He's either in the dark like the majority or he knows something he cant say yet.

Hubbs situation is unique in that he makes money on info he has, given the situation above that makes a search like this one extremely aggravating I'm sure.

My wife study for 10 hrs a day. I can’t do that, I’m lucky to study for 2 hrs lol

I’m going to disagree. My opinion is that Hubbs doesn’t “know” anything because there isn’t anything to “know” at this point.

We interviewed Freeze - never offered him the job - then he took the Liberty job.

Then we hired Briles, Yurcich and Lebby. I don’t believe we offered any of them the job.

Hubbs, Hyams and others have all had the above information in some form.

What I think happened next is Pruitt got fed up with the search and shut it down to focus on recruiting. And if I’m right, we should soon start hearing from the same reliable sources, Hubbs, Hyams, etc. those new names and if/when we are going to talk to them.

I don’t believe we have a hire in pocket and that we are sitting on that information for some reason.

We might be technically waiting on someone, but I believe we are waiting to interview them - not that someone already has the job.

That's a great story, thanks. I don't think she has any trepidation about whether she can actually pass, just juggling being a mom of three, a full time nurse, and a wife to someone who works night shift for 45+ hours a week. It's a lot. I completed my Masters in 2012, when we had 2 kids, hardly any medical bills, etc. etc. and it was a lot then...

But no one can prove that. If they hired Daffy Duck 4 months from now Mathews could just say “it was him all along, it just took longer than expected”
Not with a straight face he couldnt.

Who it is will go a long way it putting that puzzle together. If its "Laffy Duck" level I'm doubting they had him in the bag when Matthew's made his claim.

Your theory has major holes in it and The reason why is you have changed your timeline 3 times now

At first you said Pruitt was waiting to interview a new set of candidates until after NSD.

Then it was after Christmas

And now it's still the new candidates theory with you

For me it's much easier to believe a plan is in place and we are just waiting for a coaches job to end than it is to Believe Pruitt is just hitting the reset button over and over again

Unfortunately, that always seems to be how it is once you start a life/family. We don't know how easy we have it as single people in college. When I graduated, I thought: What now? And panicked when I graduated (as a ugrad) because I had no idea what to do with myself. Now that I'm older and have more responsibilities, I'd give about anything to go back to that confused state -- lol.

My prediction as someone who has observed lots of people under stressful situations and knows a thing or two about husbands and wives: She will do fine despite the grind of it all. (You may not survive it but she will :D )

The timeline, to me, doesn’t matter that much. That’s just me guessing on when we’ll start hearing names.

My ultimate stance is that we don’t have anything “done”. I could totally be wrong but that wouldn’t make any sense to me.

In which case your not really disagreeing when I say he either knows something he cant run with or the info is dry. Your taking the later which I agree is possible and maybe even probable.

I think at worst they are waiting to talk to somebody they feel they have a really good chance at getting for whatever reason. Having a hard time believing Pruitt doesnt just make any hire if the wheels are falling off as bad as some think just to get it over with at this point. It wasnt a surprise that Helton was leaving as early as the first of Nov.

I guess it boils down to this for me.

Does it make more sense that Pruitt has a plan or has just killed month waiting for everyone to get finished before moving forward?

To me that is easy

Timeline seems like this to me...

Freeze is the guy until something more came out. Passed, and probably for the best since the dirtiest program seems to have passed as well.

I’m thinking it was determined that Briles was good, but not worth the baggage, $, and clearing out two spots for staff members that it would take to make it happen.

Yurcich was then likely offered. At this point he’s either told us no or put us on hold in order to hear about Akron job or some other HC job, coach the bowl game, wait until his buy out drops, etc.

At this point we’re either still waiting on Yurcich or vetting the next one.

I think the hang up is terms like "done", "accepted job", "signed contract "...

It can be none of those things today, but also not be an apocalyptic hire.

The answer might be in plain sight though.

Jeremy Pruitt himself said he doesn’t care that much about the OC search. Now, I know we all think he was playing coy and just giving a dismissive answer to avoid the question - but what if he was telling the truth?

What if he’s not that worried about it and knows he’ll have a new candidate pool once the NFL makes their firings official?

Agree. I think it’s very possible Yurcich just said wait. Because before then they were info coming out on several candidates. Right when things started to really heat up with yurcich...boom. Everything completely stopped and not a single drop of info on anyone else has came out.

That’s what I’m hoping anyways

I'm confident Pruitt cares if we get a quality OC. That's silly.
