Just wondered if you knew the true origin. My family owned and I grew up at the "gin" durin' gin season. Bye the way their are other "grades" like poor (pronounced pour), finest kind, ect....
I remember going to the gin on "gin" day and watching the men hold those tubes and suck the cotton out of the wagon. One thing I do remember when I was around 8 years old is watching with interest as the man sucking the cotton up was working while scarfing down a bologna sandwich...and the noise...I remember just how loud the gin was.....funny the things we remember...Cotton was truly KING then I guess....don't EVER want to go back to those days but wouldn't take anything for the hard work and memories...

When I was the "8" and a few years beyond you refer to. I was allowed the run the suck. (around 8 with help) But not in the wagon (first suck) but on the floor. Later in life I learned the guys were afraid I would be sucked up!!! When I got to a "big" 110 lbs or so,, I arrived!!!

His performance has been good. But if you consider the circumstances under which she has practiced and played you could say his performances are great. The guys played under a different bad coach every year, and behind a poor offense of line. Most people would be broken or have quit by now.

He's always gonna be average. He's just too small, a step slow and not athletic enough to be a good SEC QB. He's serviceable enough to make some plays but he is unable to make plays on a consistent basis. It would help if he could read defenses better (he can improve that) and be a little more mobile (probably not every gonna happen).

UT's offense leaves a lot to be desired and that makes it more difficult for him but he does not make the team around him better.

This poll was a great idea. It let me know that the most vocal negative crowd are in the minority. That's hopeful, because I thought for a little bit there most people thought he sucked. The grade of "average" is fair. The grade of "bad" and "terrible" are strange considering how bad the entire team was.

That's just people looking for an escape goat for how offensive the offense was, typical laziness.

I won't call him great, but he is darn sure better than average.

How so?

SEC Averages
Completions: 197.6
Attempts: 320
Percentage: 61.7%
Total Yards: 2555
Yards per attempt: 7.9
Passing TDs: 19
Interceptions: 7
Rating: 144
Rushing Attempts: 86
Rushing Yards: 233
Avg Rush Yard:1.85
Rushing TD: 4

JG
Completions: 153
Attempts: 246
Percentage: 62.2
Total Yards: 1907
Yards per attempt: 7.8
Passing TDs: 12
Interceptions: 3
Rating: 141
Rushing Attempts: 40
Rushing Yards: -94
Avg Rush Yard: -2.4
Rushing TD: 0

He's literally below average in every category except interceptions and completion percentage, where he's not even a full percentage point above the SEC average.

Averages are skewed by outliers, such as Tua with an insane 200 qbr. Median is probably better and he is right there in the 4 important categories - 8th in QBR, 5th in YPA, 8th in completion%, 3rd in td/int.

Also, many of those categories are so meaningless it is laughable you would include them. Assuming not an analyst by trade. Do we need to rank if he an average number of attempts?? completions? Rushing attempts? wtf?

Not well above average (in the league, is that the comparison or nationally? idk), but right there in the middle with 2 years to improve and the worst ol in the conference.

How are you rating the TENN OL worst in conference? Based on sacks there were 6 that gave up more sacks and 7 that gave up fewer sacks. Kinda average middle of the pack. Same as JG's numbers.

He cherry picks data then whines about others using stats to back up their argument, he seems to have learned how to debate by learning the logical fallacies and sticking to those.

Apples and oranges. Put a lot of SEC QBs on the 2018 Tn team and see how they would compare. You make a really stupid argument.

If he was not as tough as a pine knot, how long would the other guys last? Average, yes. Tough, h*** yes.

If a) he can speed up his decision making to match SEC defenses, b) get the ball out or run effectively for first downs/TDS, and c) throw the ball in front of the receivers and not in the hands of the defense, he could be GOOD+. Not sure he will ever be a Tua, Manning, etc. I do appreciate his heart and toughing it out. Having a stronger OL, receivers who can catch and hold on to it, and an OC who can mix it up and avoid throwing first downs away, would also come into play in the JG "goodness" equation.

Dude..you know you cant bring statistical facts in here outside of completion %. You should probably go root for ga/bama/uf since you opened pandoras fact box.

Kyle Shurmer and Kellen Mond were sacked as much as JG.

Poor oline performances are not restricted to UT.
Those guys threw for a combined 46 touchdowns last year. They must have amazing offensive lines and NFL wide outs at every position!

When you dont understand the difference in grammar and spelling.🙄 I mean if you are going to utilize a language to communicate is it too much to ask for you to give a bit of effort?
You could clearly see who I was talking about but hey keep sitting on your high horse maybe some people will think highly of you eventually rather than thinking of you as bundle of sticks
