We the People Will Build the Beautiful Steel Slat Barrier

What would your reaction be if Trump used existing funds from the $700 billion 2018 national defense budget to build the wall?

I think many of the areas where it makes sense to have a wall already have one. There are hundreds of miles along the border where hardly anyone lives.

I believe you to be a intelligent person.
Look at what this “movement” is showing.

It will send a message imo.

Idiots will be exposed.

I'm guessing this movement gets plenty of coverage on Fox News.

I seem to remember a bunch of libs complaining about a certain President of the United States who regularly watches Fox News.

And I believe you to be one. This money won’t be raised. Will it send a point ? Sure. But it won’t matter. It’s pissing in the wind.

That's it? A non-answer?

Why do you currently oppose the wall? Funding?

If we spend money that has already been appropriated by congress for national defense to build the wall - why would you oppose it?

This issue isn't of such grave importance to Trump as a matter of national security. To him, it only represents an important political battle. His ego and lack of maturity only allows him to view his role as President through the prism of "winning" and "losing". He isn't about compromise or unity and doing what is in the best interest of the country. He is about taking victory laps and making self-congratulatory speeches. Obtaining the funding so a new (even if unnecessary and wasteful) structure can be built, represents both the means and the end as far as Trump is concerned because it's not what the wall achieves that is important to him - it's what it represents - "winning". He wants to gloat before his enemies and pat himself on the back before his supporters.... and most importantly, he is concerned about "saving face" - not "losing". This is just a game to Trump because he really is that immature, small, petty, self-absorbed and egocentric.

You've obviously forgotten how Obamacare was passed.

Hyper partisan.

Obama believed in the ACA... it wasn't just a political battle to him. I don't believe for a minute that Trump supporters truly care if the damn wall is ever built or not. You just can't stand to see Trump "lose" on an issue he campaigned so heavily on.

You're wrong. Most people that voted for Trump want the wall. It's not debatable.

Sick & tired of our government ignoring real solutions while perpetually wasting billions and trillions of our tax dollars on foreign wars and foreign aid that doesn't positively impact Americans' lives.

This is such a childish train of thought... This isn't about winning or losing political battles; that is the Trump way of thinking and it's tribalism and divisive.
BS and you know it. There are plenty of things Obama was for and you guys were agreeing, now Trump is for and it triggers y’all because muh Trump. Damn hypocrites are what you are.

We have a wall, where a wall is needed. It needs refurbishing in places but not a $5 billion new structure.. that isn't going to stop people in desperate conditions in Central America from seeking asylum here anyway.

...and I stand by what I said about Trump supporters - it's not the wall you want; it's Trump's victory lap.

BS. It's all politics with the wall. It was ok for Schumer and Feinstein before Trump was president.

Now they oppose because, muh Trump #RESIST.

I've heard zero logical arguments against a permanent border wall.

A permanent wall significantly reduces the number of economic migrants attempting to cross illegally in these annual caravans.

We need to fix the issue once and for all - this has been a significant topic of debate in Washington since 1986.

One thing that has been confirmed without question - everything we've done in the past 32 years has not worked to fix the issue.

It's convenient politically to kick the can down the road to campaign against whoever is/was in power.

We have a fence / wall in certain areas that isn't keeping migrants from illegally crossing.

It's not working now. It's not worked very well at all for the past 40 years.

We can fix this. It's not rocket science.

It doesn't address the core problem. We have walls where they are needed (they need regular repairs - which have been funded). At $5 billion, it's a waste... but having said that, if Trump can get Mexico to pay for it and it doesn't cost American tax payers any money???? Then why the hell not? If that is true, get the money from Mexico and do whatever you want with it... therein lies the problem; Mexico was never paying for the wall (and there is no math calculation for the new "USMCA" generating anything close to $5 billion in additional tax revenue any time soon. Sorry. ).

How ironic that a lot of us have been saying the same thing for the past 8 years.

So turn about is only fair.
