Haslams

I dont buy the "haslem's control everything" for a second. Ive been on here debating with people about it before. The common theory is that the haslems want to control the athletic dept. Ive asked over and over again...why would they care to have this supposed control? I doubt they think they are more capable of making good hires that anyone else. It just doesn't make sense. Could there be a rare scenario where a major booster doesn't want a particular coach hired for one reason or another? Probably. But that would be very rare I'd assume. People just love a good conspiracy though. I have a friend who thinks the earth is flat and the govt is lying to us about it. I'm always giving her crap about it. The question I always ask is for what purpose would the govt perpetuate this lie. She says it's control. They want to use it to control us. I'm like of course...because we have to pay all those "round earth taxes". Lol. But she's not deterred. She lives her a conspiracy. And so do many in vol nation. Harlem isn't behind the scenes forcing all the powers that be to bow down to him. And I doubt that he (or any other booster) is hardly ever consulted for anything.

Charlie Anderson a/k/a Beaver's source albeit perhaps a few degrees removed. I think the truth is that he has given a lot of money to the school but has never been particularly involved with the athletics side.

Unless you truly believe what you said, I hope you meant to say Charlie Ergen. The question asked was who is the CEO of Dish Network.

Does anybody know what kind of bank they donate annually to UT to warrant such (apparent) control? If they are truly bankrolling the entire athletic department (which I highly doubt) and the track record of the program since they have been donating is similar to that of an Enron chart, why would the BOD still allow it to continue? I get it that (to quote Animal House) "We need the dues". But damn...

Thoughts?

Relax, you can't blame everything on Haslam, some blame must be placed on the players themselves, after all they are the ones on the field.
I don't think the players blame anyone but themselves, as it should be.

Exactly. Anderson (and his father) made their boat load of money supplying Walmarts with magazines, CDs and such through Anderson News Company.

Somebody also said that James Haslam lives on Lyons View Drive. Mr. Haslam's place is on a hundred or 2 hundred acres on Lyons BEND Road backing up to Fort Loudon Lake in the Riverbend area. Actually Charlie Anderson lives on Lyons VIEW at the corner just up over the hill from Old Kingston Pike (Blows Ferry?)... the road that runs down to the west end of Cherokee Boulevard.

'bout tree fiddy

I blame the Haslam's. Ever since Big Jim let his two brats take control of the company everything they touch turns to crap. They are ego maniacs that never worked for anything and it shows. They have done their best to even run their dads company into the ground while letting others go to prison for their illegal schemes to rip others off.

You don’t see a politician lying? WOW. To see the world through the eyes of an 8 year old must be nice.
The politicians in question had tweeted their disgust with Schiano as we all did. Jimmy Haslam then calls them and told them "you don't make the hire, we do."

Now a couple of things. One, Jimmy has as much hiring power, legally, at UT as I do.
And two, this is where I don't see the politicians lying. This isn't about their policies or campaign. They said Jimmy called them and said this. You really think someone would make this up?

Not even sure why I responded to you. You couldn't see I was talking about them lying on what they said about an egotistical millionaire. Thinking all the politicians are the devil must be tough getting up everyday.

Im on your side of this argument but all politicians are crooked to some degree. So are most really successful businessmen. At least to some degree. Maybe not full blown J.R Ewing crooked but they have all ripped off and screwed over a few along the way. I also see no reason why politicians wouldve lied about Haslam telling them that. Lying about it doesnt benefit them.

Oh I don't trust a politician as far as I can throw them. I just don't see a couple of Representatives making this up about Jimmy.

Aww you caught me making a joke about the book. Bless your heart. But today when people like you wanted some evidence I did bring what anybody could find online from it that she has posted from the interview excerpts.

Edit: That took you almost 2 hours to find in my post history. You must be really bored tonight. Lulz

No, I just don't live on here 24/7 like you do.
Bottom line is, you said you had never posted about the book in another thread. But you had, then tried to laugh it off when caught in the lie.
Now, just so you know, I'm leaving the board for a while now to do some work. That's what we non-peasants do.

My goodness, that must've been mighty important to you. I'm glad you got closure on it.

Agreed. I made a joke about it and have slept since then. Never brought the contents from the book here untill yesterday. Apparently really hit a nerve with Mr Blunt.

I guess I misunderstood then. It seems to me he is correct. You said you haven't posted it in any other threads, but you had. But IMO it was nearly a month ago and that could have easily been forgotten.... But either way, big forking deal. I'm honestly glad he can now go on with his life. Seems his work may have suffered some over this.

Have you ever noticed that people of wealth and very successful are nearly always blamed for anything wrong by those of us who have no clue?? Most times these people's judgment and advise is good and should be listened to. They didn't get to where they are by being fat dumb and happy (or unhappy with everything). If in fact the Haslam family influence on football is as great as many here think, then their priorities may be to have financial stability (which is pretty good) come first. Most successful people understand their weaknesses, they also know that throwing money at a problem is not usually the way to go until they understand the problem. If in fact the "family" has all this influence over the program, then what are the rest of the "big" guys doing? Running along with their tails between their legs and being "yes men"? Not all these folks like Fulmer, but I think they all respect his knowledge of sports. I think the "ship" is being set on the right course. The finances seem fine, the on field product is showing signs of becoming "fine". ( It seems to be showing in all sports)

The Pro-Haslams are bowing out. Thanks for playing.

We appreciate Haslam’s academic donations. I enjoyed my time at the Haslam business building earning my degree. Jimmy just needs to focus on the Browns and stay away from the Vols.

Big decisions I'm sure get run by them, and if they really don't approve then they get shot down.

I don't think the Haslams are involved in an OC search. I think they are involved in a head football coach search (especially Jimmy), an AD search, a Chancellor search, or a President search.
