Vandy becoming the real UT

We are very fortunate Memphis has never been able to sneak their way into a P5. If they had the money to compete, with their easier admissions and recruiting base, they would be a pain in our backside. People in West TN are closer to Panama City Beach than they are to Knoxville. But fortunately, the Tigers have never given them a consistent winner to support.

I think someone told you the thing about Panama being closer and you believed them without fact-checking.

With Vandy owning us the last few years, the new generation only knowing a UT team that loses to Vandy, and Vandy being in the heart of Nashville where almost everyone moving in is from another part of the country and holding no emotional ties to the past or clinging onto stories of the good old days......

Is there a chance that if things do not change in the next few years, that Vandy becomes the new UT and the Vols are left by the side of the road?
Nope

It takes almost 3 more hours to get to Panama City.

Someone remind me what year they won the East again.

Their ceiling was 9 wins with Jimmy Franks. Even Butch had back to back 9 win seasons.

Beat us or not, they will never have our ceiling.

A better question would be; What are the really good things you could have done in the time it took to post this asinine thread? That is five minutes you don't get back.

Evidence based Truth is losing Favor and some will dispute that which their eyes see

It’s a valid question....

A lot of boo or gifs but facts are facts.

Vandy in heart of city with 2 million plus metro and growing fast with out of staters.

Much easier to get to stadium.

Winning record over UT lately.

Bowl games to actually go to.

I am not saying now but in 10 years if things don’t change and Vandy starts getting better there could easily be a fan flip.

0% chance this ever happens.

Excuse me? By definition, The University of Tennessee at Knoxville is the flagship campus of the University of Tennessee system, with ten undergraduate colleges and eleven graduate colleges. Vanderbilt, on the other hand, is a private school with a completely different mission statement. Unlike the University of Tennessee, Vanderbilt does not set as a goal of theirs to deliver education, discovery, outreach and public service contributions to the economic, social and environmental well-being of all Tennesseans. What you just said is not only wrong, but you are literally arguing with a definition... and with mission statements.

Don't bother explaining to him. He clearly doesn't know what "flagship" campus means.

Without facilities, recruiting in-roads, commitment to football (resources, attendance, etc.) it’s never going to happen. Not even possible.
They’ve already supplanted Tennessee as the better SEC team in the state without all those things. They’re a far better program right now after having beaten the hell out of the Vols for the 5th time in 7 years and making a bowl game while Tennessee sits its sorry arse at home.

So, spout out all that irrelevant stuff since you can’t say anything about what actually happens on the field, but that’s just the way it is. Right now, Vandy owns Tennessee and will very likely win its 6th game in 8 years against us next year. But yeah, facilities blah blah, recruiting blah blah, commitment blah blah......

We’re going to start seeing bumper stickers “Vanderbilt:THE University of Tennessee”.
I saw one of those years ago.

Right, and then Sewanee produced one to one-up its former rival Vandy: "Sewanee: THE University of the South."

And after Candy's decent (by Candy standards) 1982 season, UT fans in Nashville responded with an orange and white bumper sticker saying: "Tennessee: Where Winning is a Tradition - Not a 1-year Fad." I had one. Perhaps we should resurrect it, and change the "1-year" to "3-year." Except that that would imply they actually had winning seasons, which they did not for 2 out of the last 3 years -- and will not this year if they lose to Baylor.

No chance. Vandy is an elite educational institution - athletics is not a primary focus. They are fundamentally different types of universities. This may be a hard truth, but the typical UT student would have no chance of being admitted to Vandy, so no, they will never be "the new UT".

Ummmmmm....no.....just no.

And even with all of that going their way, our class is top 15 and theirs is ranked 51.

We will always have more talent than they do; all it takes is one coach that can develop and use it.

Repost when Vandy is in the mix for the SEC and National championship over a ten year period, when they run off 6 or 7 straight against Alabama. I don't think going 6-6 is becoming the real UT. Andy has never been UT and never will. Just because Tennessee is not the real UT doesn't mean Vandy ever will be. Florida maybe, Georgia for sure, Even SC and Missouri but never Vandy!!!

Since we have 13 SEC Championships in football and they have 0 still a long ways to go for them to ever replace Tennessee. They haven't and never will win an SEC title their goal is to win as many as they lose and get to some low tier bowl. Still Tennessee 77 to 33 and 5 ties I know we need to get back to winning and we will it has to happen even if it takes another start over or two with coaching.

For all under 30....Tenn. and Candy have played 112 times and Tenn. has won 75 of them and tied 3. Tenn. longest win streak 22,
Candy 3. Tenn. Has won 16 Sec championships, Candy 0. Tenn. Has won 6 National championships, Candy 0.
Candy has a long way to before they become Tennessee!

All that is true. Our history vs Vandy, from the 1930s or so until 2010 was stellar, we WERE dominant over a far inferior program......those days are long gone.

You're probably right, so go on over there I'm sure there's plenty of room for you.

Don’t believe Vandy will ever be the great program we were in the 90s, that’s foolish thinking. But they sure as hell are the better program as we sit here today, hands down. Vandy has gotten better and we’ve sunk about as low as any SEC program possibly could with no hope in sight that it’s gonna turn around anytime soon.
