Coach Joe Osovet

It would be a sad day if we lose Osovet!

He's a really good coach and knows how to put points on the board with his system.

My thoughts on Osovet after Pruitt brought him here so follow me here and then think it through and give me your positive feedback please.....

Pruitt is a expert on the D but he also knows the O pretty well, has to in order to be a great D coach.

Pruitt is now a HC so he has to expand his knowledge of the O and be more openminded of our O.

I think he brought Osovet here to learn more from Helton and Friend and for Pruitt to learn more about how Osovet could incorporate more of the Osovet systems into what Pruitt knows well and wants to run.

If Pruitt can mesh in to his Pro systems some of the things from the Osovet systems and the players are smart enough to learn it all well and execute it well then we could end up with a O system that's VERY hard to stop.

The FACT is that for the next 2 or 3 years we're totally rebuilding and we won't be great without at least 3 more recruiting classes of really good players picked to run our O and D systems, that's our reality no matter how much we all hate it.

If Osovet becomes our next OC I'm all for it especially if this last year have been learning how to mesh the Pro and Osovet systems together.

Pruitts D and a meshed together Osovet O could mean bad news for any team that plays our footVol Team.

Don't sleep on Friend, he's a very good coach and in a emergency he can step right in and replace any OC and I'm happy we have him.

Sam Pittman couldn't have done better this season with the O linemen we had to play this season.

How long will it take for Osovet to get a Power 5 position job at Tennessee or another school?

Joe Osovet 'an innovator' of the RPO

Pruitt saw enough in Osovet that he convinced him to give up a successful head coaching gig to become an analyst for the Vols. I doubt Pruitt is going to let someone take Joe away from UT anytime soon. I got the impression Joe feels the same way about working for Pruitt.

I can see us putting more RPO into our game plans after we have a good running QB that can also pass well on the run.

As long as we can keep Osovet I expect to see some serious challenges added to our O schemes that the other teams DC's will have nightmares about.

I can't stand him because I can't watch a college or pro game without hearing "R-P-O" a thousand times per game.

I find it hard to not think it’s Sark at this point.

Have the relationship, is known in Alanta(recruiting), is about to be out of his job, is proven HC too (so Pruitt doesn’t have to even worry about O)

Because a school that in the not too recent past was considered a great program should not be hiring every damn body they hire to learn on the effing job. Holy crap why is that hard to understand.

I suppose if you accept that the UT program and brand are so tarnished that we are now and forevermore equal to the damned Vandy's, Kentucky's, UVa's, Boston Colleges, Purdue, Colorado, TCU etc etc etc.. Then yeah, hire every dang rookie and every Southern Conference coach you can to come and learn in Knoxville. Cut your chops here. We are no longer a destination school but we can help you learn your craft so you can get a real good job at a football school...This crap makes me angry and sick.

I've accepted that I'm in the minority but if the last few hires haven't proven that we are doing it all freaking wrong then I guess we might as well accept our fate like Minnesota and be ecstatic about our next 8 win season in 2022.
yep Washington was stupid for hiring Chris Peterson, UF too for hiring Urban.
I mean Boise st and Utah , ain’t really power 5 caliber .
Or you could argue they looked like future superstar coaches while at their small time schools and it didn’t take a genius to see.
While UT hired a couple that had not showed any signs of being above average.

So based on my observation above, I don’t give a damn if the next OC comes from a power 5 or the MAC as long as he has shown to be a lot better than average at what he does.

Seems we would need quick thinking QB with a great arm and a quick set of legs. Not sure we have that on this team.

lol. Meyer had Utah in the Fiesta Bowl. real big gamble there. Peterson was 92-12 at Boisie and had them in the Fiesta Bowl twice.

You guys are already trying to put lipstick on the pig and we haven't even hired it. I'd say 'good try', but it really wasn't.

What work well at one level or conference doesn’t necessarily work elsewhere. Butch tried to bring an offense from the mid majors to the SEC and it didn’t work.

Butch’s offenense was based on speed and finesse. The SEC defenses were both fast and big. Guess what, fast and big, beats fast. A fast Butch 4 star from the Midwest was not equal to a south east 4 star. That fast Midwest 4star didn’t need much development to do well in the mid majors, but in the SEC, well.
You have to experience these things to become a P5 coach.

On the Sports Source telecast this morning, one of the topics was the offensive coordinator search and somebody said that Osevet could be another example of Mike Yurcich and that CJP could make an internal hire for the offensive coordinator position.

They also talked a lot about the early signing period as well.

It’s not a read option. And “quick” is different than what Dobbs had.

I concede its getting out of the realm of possibility. So the sickening thought
Of an internal hire looms now. That would happen right after ESD. I cant see that
Being received at all by the vol faithful.

It's a good thing he don't get paid to make decisions to please us then. I don't know what will happen but either way I will still wear my orange proudly and go and watch as many games as I possibly can. This program is bigger than us fans and decisions aren't made solely on our behalf.

Why would any offensive prospect other than a legacy like Lampley sign with us? I'm glad some seem to still be on board but I'd have a hard time with this if I was one of those people.
