I didn’t actually like that video.

Not one of their best IMO

Finally,
I didn't want to be the one saying the same thing about that video. I don't think it's anywhere near as good as some other videos they've made. Maybe it was just the subject matter in this video. It's not one that I will watch again. I guess I'm a fan of the action videos.

What seems odd about the Yurcich thing (or any of them really) is there hasn’t been some public announcement that the candidate has turned us down, no reports of a contract extension at their current school, no “Cowboy for life!” type tweets, etc. It’s been “Pruitt is talking to Coach X” and then - nothing. Makes me think either Pruitt has a “silent commit,” or he hasn’t really thought any of the ones he met would be the right fit, and/or he just isn’t that focused on it and wants to get through the ESD first. If we are able to get a strong offensive recruiting haul, it might make the job more attractive to potential candidates.
interesting point.

i think we're so used to these things being handled so poorly, that it's an automatic assumption this is too.

but usually, as you point out, we have some type of evidenced of it going bad....the tweets you referenced, leaks from either side etc.....

that's not happening this time. media and fans alike left to make stuff up on their own with nothing to go on.

that is different. dont' know if it's good or bad different yet. but it is different.

If anything has been proven during this search, it's that no one knows what's going on outside of Fulmer and Pruitt. The likelihood of Pruitt knowing who the guy is versus we haven't interviewed anyone we want are probably the same. Any scenario is still on the table. I will say, however, the longer it goes, the stricter the judgment gets. He trots out a Google McGoogle, itll be hard for me to see a path to success for Pruitt.

I choose to believe he knows who his guy is, and for whatever reason, has not pushed forward with either a deal or announcement. Hes focused on this ESD and should be. It's not hurting recruiting and dont think announcing it would bolster it either way, most kids know what they're gonna do.

I think he knows the importance of this hire, and am totally fine with waiting, so long as it's a solid hire. We'll see what happens.

DM's direct qoutes have been posted here several times. i've never listened to him either, yet i know exactly what he said.

The funny thing about that is after he went on 104.5 Wednesday afternoon the host spent the next hour putting out fires where peope were tweeting quotes he didn't say. My favorite was someon tweeted he said recruiting travel expenses were a reason he gave for the hire being delayed.

Just lots of words being twisted by people and when you read that second hand it's even worse

Now my biggest take away from
Listening to Doug over the years is I would bet a large amount of money he believes what he is saying. He is very confident. Now I do think Doug has been slipping lately on info but he clearly isn't lying here imo. It's possible he is being fed a lie sure.

It does and doesnt. I'm 50/50 on it. Usually if he doesn't know he just says he doesn't know. I see both sides the "protecting Fulmer side" and the he is telling truth side. I think he would protect Fulmer but I don't think he would take it as far as he is going as to discredit himself and I don't think Fulmer would do that to him.

Imo if it turns out to be a McClendon, Yurchich, Long, internal hire, or NFL guy then I think DM could be telling truth. Those are guys that are loyal to sticking through ESD for the coach that gave them a chance. More so Mac and Yurchich. Internal causing fan negativity that could hurt recruiting right before signing day.

If it's some random college guy mcgoogle then probably was bs

There’s so many levels to it that don’t make sense.

-between VQ, Chris Low, National media etc... not a single peep really has been said about any other candidates other than freeze, briles, Yurcich.... sobto think there is a mystery candidate that is 95% done that not only TN people haven’t got a whiff of but also another teams coaching staff, writers, recruits, agents, etc. is very very unlikely. I’m not even talking about “this guy has interviewed”. I mean not even a name drop.

Also if he in fact did have someone he knew he was going to hire but still was going out and interviewing handfuls of candidates that would be an awful look for him within coaching circles.

For the record i don’t think anyone is flat out lying. I think it’s just fulmer getting a friend in Mathews to try and calm the mob while a first time AD and first time HC are trying to nail down a really important OC hire. I think it’s more Pruitt just being indecisive after freeze fell through than anything.

I believe he is purposefully lying as a favor for Fulmer. Because no matter what you can’t call him on a lie like that.

Whenever a hire is made, he can simply claim that was the guy the whole time and he knew it and we didn’t.
That depends on who is hired IMO. You roll out a guy that checks the boxes and there's nothing you can say to refute him. You roll out John Googleson after 4 or 5 weeks and your BS is on full display. And the origin of your BS is evident. Dangerous play for Fulmer IMO.

If Fulmer is playing a media/radio personality game to squelch concerns over the optics it hasn't worked.

The only thing I would differ on is that he feels pretty good about where he's going. So in that sense he's not really "searching" either.
No doubt. I don’t think there’s a panic by any means. But I’m skeptical that means he has someone in his back pocket.

I have seen so many of these coaching searches where the actual hire is leaked about two hours before the announcement so I think the surprise outta left field hire is definitely in play here, especially with how tight lipped the decision makers are.

I found it interesting what Price said yesterday. Not as much what he said about the hire not being in place before ESD, but that he said it a week before that happens.

The sense of urgency is not there. That either points to Pruitt being comfortable in what he knows or he's clueless. IMO.

If he isn't comfortable with what's going on he would have certainly conducted more interviews this week.

All signs point to done deal because he isnt clueless imo

yep. i was thinking abou that yesterday and for some reason couldn't put it in the right words. but that's it, nail on the head.

and if he is clueless, and the wheels fell off this search 2 weeks ago, then on some level i'm glad they slowed it way down, and started over. we've seen what rushing to a decision because of panic looks like around here.

Agreed - and we don’t know which one is the truth at this point.

I believe we contacted a swath of coaches he wanted to interview. Some said “let’s get it scheduled ASAP”, some said “nah, I’m not interested”, and others said “let’s do it, but after signing day would be better for me.”

So I think that’s where we’re at currently. Waiting to interview those guys.

OK gotta ask, is Will Friend really a terrible hire?
he's not the hire, but from the beginning, i thought he made the most senese.

he's not sexy and fans would hate it...but i don't think he'd be a bad hire at all.

that said, there is an opportunity to do better. and unless something has changed, he doesn't want the job.
