Botch on the way to Maryland

I was fine with "moving on" until he mocked us with that f* cigar on national TV. It's Internet-Open-Season on him now as far as I'm concerned.

"You want to get Jones? Here's how you get him. He pulls a cigar, you pull a .gif. He sends one of yours to the bricks , you send one of his to the trash can! That's the VolNation way!"
Yeah thats it.

One question, how do we do it and not look like losers?

So basically you don't know **** about me or my fandom, because I laid it out perfectly in the post before. The man was wholly unfit to be the head football coach here and demostrated that a multitude of times before I wanted him gone, and continued to do so the following three years he was here. So take your righteous indignation and stick it up your ass, because you're defending a man who has also demonstrated he doesn't give a damn about this university and certainly not you as a fan. Not the hill to die on for your "fandom".

If you're hoping the Vols lose...youre a fan?

Gotcha.

And it only seemed like righteous indignation because it was righteous, just no indignation.

I sure hope we get an OC you are enamored enough with to actually root for the Vols every game of his tenure. Lord knows we need all the help we can get.

Lol no he (Locksley) doesn't!! He's been terrible since. Just follow his abysmal career.

Ok, so he left New Mexico after disaster. What does he do? He is OC at Maryland for FOUR years...not a single time merely breaking the top HALF of national scoring offenses LOLOLOL. All this on top of his 3-31 HC record and multiple suits against him! He truly, truly SUCKS!! Worst P5 hire in a long time!!

The argument of Maryland fans that he's a recruiter ignores 2 facts: 1) he already had his chance to recruit his way to success...FOUR years as OC! He won't even get that much time as HC! 2) primarily recruiting-based HCs have a history of abject failure. It's been proven a bad idea.

After the McNair death, Locksley will get a minimum of 5 years unless a scandal happens.... Maryland is ecstatic about him and so is the DC/Maryland beltway. Considering what just happened, he’s the best hire they could have made to really turn the page on a dark time in the program.

That's pretty much my feelings. Flash your bandwagon crap anywhere you want to but at the school you left with your tail between your legs, understand that much of our current troubles belong to you. You may be bitter about being fired, but you were let go for poor performance and as such any celebration on the sideline that gives the golden orange goose a neener neener earms you (NOT YOUR FAMILY) all the abuse you can get.

Well, Kiffin became OC at Bama and kicked our ass. Dooley becomes OC at Mizzou and kicks our ass. Wouldn't shock me if the Vols face Maryland in a bowl game in the next year or two and Butch kicks our ass. It's the damn indian mound.
Or Karma.

These contracts are almost always structured so that any money the fired party makes from coaching only offsets what they’re owed, eg if Butch is owed $1m per year for five years and his new job pays him $400k, then Tennessee is still on the hook for the $600k per year difference.

Although sometimes you have insanely bad contracts like the one Auburn gave Malzahn where a large percentage of the total buyout is due almost immediately after termination. A contract like that really hurts.

That's true, but he also can't structure his salary with a new employer, with the purpose of keeping UT's payment of liquidated damages; that would put him in breach of contract.

If he did so, UT could notify him that they believe that he has breached the contract, and that they are no longer paying him liquidated damages, and force him to initiate litigation to prove otherwise.

If Locksley is going to make Butch the defacto offensive coordinator, but pay him like an analyst, then UT should find him in breach.

Hoping the coach gets fired is much different than hoping they lose. Why is that such a hard concept for you to grasp?

No need to mock Butch, cigar or no. These things have a way of working themselves out. He celebrated the fact that Saban clobbered the players he (Butch) recruited? Not a smart look. Now he's tight ends coach at Maryland, a fall from HBC at UT? That's its own humbler.

There’s no evidence that he’s doing that, unfortunately.

Once the details of his contract are released, it will be apparent it he's trying to game UT; Butch still has to report his income to UT to keep getting liquidated damages.
But why assume Maryland is trying to pull the wool over Tennessee?

Few programs have undergone as much scrutiny recently as they have. And everyone knows that the contract will be public record.

Seems unlikely that they’re trying to gouge a school when they don’t have to.

Tee's issues go back to what happened when he left with Kiffin and they looted our recruiting class. If Tee had stayed, he might be our head coach by now. Tee can come back here one of two ways. Either do it with hat in hand, asking the fans' forgiveness for how he left and taking a sub-coordinator staff position. Or do it like Johnny and come back here as a returning hero after winning a national championship somewhere else.
with that mindset i see why some coaches dont wanna come here. u must be doing stnd-up. tee doesnt owe us fans anything. remember '98

It isn't difficult to accept that concept. However many were stating they hoped the team would lose to prevent CBJ from continuing as coach. When that is happening you're more a fan of the coach than the program.

Even a Schiano type hire would not have me hoping they lose. It would simply make me apathetic until he was gone.

So as i said, I hope we get an OC that enamors you his entire career. This program needs all the help it can get.

Maryland hasn’t added Alabama analyst Butch Jones...yet

More than two weeks after it was reported Butch Jones would be joining Maryland’s staff, new Terrapins coach Mike Locksley said the Alabama analyst has yet to be hired

“I haven’t signed Butch to a contract just yet,” Locksley, the Crimson Tide’s outgoing offensive coordinator, said Wednesday.

Still, Locksley hinted he has strongly considered Jones as a potential addition to the Big Ten program he has been tasked with rebuilding. And per sources, Jones has visited Maryland.

This classic is all I think of regarding Mike Locksley: THE BALLAD OF MIKE LOCKSLEY

That's great.

Amazing any program would hire that complete joker as their HC. He might have the worst track record of any offensive coach I've ever seen. His team once scored 13 ppg for an entire season. I can't even imagine.

How humiliating for Butch. He has been a head coach at three different programs and has recruited and had winning seasons at all three places
Yet Tee Martin, to this point, a receiver coach, a running back coach and not an OC but a Co-OC in college. Tee supposedly gets the OC position while Butch, with more experience does not.
Guys we have to qualify for a bowl game next year and play Maryland

Lot of butthurt in this post

I know you claim that Locksely is a bad coach BUT remember Gene Chizik at Iowa State? he had a losing record but still blindly won the National Championship because of Scam Newton, Malzahn & the stud D lineman he had that year...
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut occasionally....

.

I've followed this exchange between the two of you since it began a few posts back and I don't understand your side of it at all, especially the above. Is that what this whole conversation between you two is about?
