So, are we back to thinking that Pruitt knows what he's doing and hasn't been turned down by every coach currently in the NCAA?

I'm just trying to keep up.
At least for a few hours anyway. I suspect an afternoon meltdown will ensue a little later than usual.

It's not really much insight. We're just dealing with a new HC finding his way. It's positive that Pruitt is adapting and evolving and not as positive how it's playing out with fans and the media. Given UT's past coaching searches, the process and public perception could have been managed better, but media relations and PR aren't UT's strength.
If he's willing to get better. I already like him better than butch

He had trouble stopping mizzou because of bad tackling, failure to shed blocks and generally overall putrid effort by the players on the field....not because he didn't know what Mizzou was doing..c'mon man
It’s not like he didn’t know what they were doing, but Mizzou ran RPOs as well as anybody we faced this year and it gave us trouble.

It wouldn’t be surprising to me at all if Pruitt was picking the minds of guys like Freeze, Briles, or Yurcich for things that give them trouble with RPOs.

IMO it has to be a current NFL guy waiting for the NFL season to end. It's the only thing that makes since on how this is playing out. I personally think it will be Sark.

He's sharing ideas with different offensive minds in CFB. IMO he has a guy that he wants. But is unable to do anything until the season ends.

I choose to believe this until proven wrong. We have a deal with someone who can’t leave or make it public until after a final game is played. All these other guys rumored have been meetings, not job interviews. VQ knows nothing and are floating out names because they don’t know what else to do, need to look like they have some inside info, and it generates site traffic. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Dabo benefitted from said exception. I’m hoping it’s not Propst.
I think you would agree that hiring a guy straight from high School carries with it more risk than if you hire a seasoned college level or higher veteran. My take is that I'm not sure taking that risk at this point would be a wise move for coach Pruitt at this point. I want coach Pruitt to succeed. I think a cagey veteran offers him the best chance at achieving that success.

Here's how I'm starting to look at this. If Pruitt was going to earnestly try to hire one of Freeze, Briles, or Yurcich, it would mean that he has taken his stated preferred offensive philosophy and completely abandoned it in favor of a new school of thought. This could be the case, but to me it seems less likely than what Matthews is suggesting. We'll see, but the stuff Matthews is saying makes me at least a little less anxious about this search and it seems to make a little bit more sense than the notion that Pruitt is doing a 180 on his offensive philosophy.

So...wait, why all of a sudden are people thinking it's Chaney again? I've been gone a few hours.

Doug Matthews was on the radio again. Stands by 95% done comments and says they know who they are going to hire. Said a lot of the interviews were not real candidates just for Pruitt to better understand different offensive approaches. Also said there could be lots of different reasons why it hasn’t been announced yet, none of which are negative (focus on recruiting, playoffs, etc.)

I do think Pruitt would like to bring on Propst in some capacity. If it weren't for the NCAA rules, I think Pruitt would hire Propst as an analyst and see where it goes. The reality is, analysts are on the sidelines and do much more than they're intended to do, and the NCAA has been passive about it. Saban has been masterful at using this strategy to inflate his staff. JJP just makes hiring Propst a bit trickier.

If it is Chaney I would take him just for Sam Pittman. Would be nice to have Friend (run Coordinator/ OL), Pittman OL/ TE, move Nieds (TE/ RBS - recruiting***) and then move Weinke to QBs/ or just move on and let Chaney be OC/ QBs....

that is the one tid bit that makes Chaney viable. he's not been resigned. he's "available" so to speak.

i'm not saying i'm ready to buy in to it, but, it at least makes some sense.

For the record I don't think its Chaney either.
I'm going with Long or an NFL guy

that may be the thing that's holding some of this up. Pruitt thinks Friend is every bit as good an OL coach ast Pittman, and Friend and Pruitt have a long history w/each other.

i don't see him just getting rid of Friend. and i don't know that he'd want to replace Friend with PIttman. but if he were, he's going to find a place for Friend on this staff, or find a place for PIttman on this staff. who knows.

but if it is a package deal that's holding it up, the kink is what to do with Friend, cause he ain't going nowhere.
