Fair weather fans are pussies! Shut the **** up and go be a Georgia fan or an Alabama fan or whoever. I don't give a ****. No wonder the whole world looks at us like idiots. I'm willing to get kicked off this site defending the team I love, The Tennessee Volunteers to pathetic people that call themselves fans. Damn, I hate stupid people. The Vols will rise again! I love my team! GBO! Go Vols!

Many proclaimed Pruitt a "great coach" prior to him ever coaching a game. Tennessee football is so irrelevent that coach worship is really the only hope we have for brighter days ahead.
Nothing indicates that the UT admin is committed to building a winning program. So we can only hope to get lucky and find that diamond in the rough coach that pulls us out, or have prefect timing for a coach like we did with Rick Barnes.

There is this silly narrative that every good coach turns a program around by year 3. So that means if Pruitt hasnt turned us around by year 3, then we should start looking for another coach because he isnt the guy. At TN, our fan base has a terrible disease called living in the pastitis. Many still believe that we are that same program that once called winning 9-10 games a year down years. The same program that would look at the schedule and circle Vandy, UK, SC, Missouri and Bama as automatic wins. A program loaded with talent that could dominate on both lines of scrimmage. Many think that we should be able to turn things around quickly because of nothing mire than our name. Its ridiculous.

The reality is Pruitt is going to need at the very least 4 years. Many fans dont want to hear it but we are in the beginning of a rebuild. Yeah it sucks but its fact. The past 2 head coaches at TN have absolutely driven this program into the ditch. We are nowhere close to competeing for the East. I think it will be year 5 before we will begin to think about that. And even then it may not be possible with UGA. Georgia may go on an SECE run like we have never seen before. They will easily win it next year as well.

Most of my friends are Vol fans and I’ve been to the games more often than UGA games since graduation. Most of the responses to my question must come from the folks I meet when I’m in Knoxville, very classy bunch.
I was talking about the KU joke.

I'll take the bait...There's only one concrete reason to have hope as a Vols fan. One. It's not about Pruitt and his success at Bama, UGA and FSU, though it plays a part.

It's Fulmer.

We haven't had anyone, coaches, AD's, administration that knows what a big time football program even looks like. It's been a comedy of errors around here for a decade.

Fulmer knows what it looks like and more importantly, he can communicate it to others. He knows you have to have the players and he's going to expect Pruitt and Co. to go get them and he has the resources to do it so there can't be any excuses. I wasn't a fan of Fulmer being hired at the time, but now...I believe.

I don't know about three years, maybe it takes five, but Jeremy Pruitt is going to have to go get us some dudes. He knows it, he's said it. That is Fulmer's expectation and if CJP can't win the recruiting battles he'll be moving on.

I saw where posters are tired of the same threads, so here is one y’all can rally around; maybe.

I keep reading where some fans are expecting the ship to turn around in the next two years and the Vols will be competing for the East. Looking at the level of recruiting that UGA is accomplishing, how can you possibly feel that UT is closing the gap? It looks like the gap is getting wider. Is it based on faith in Pruitt’s evaluation skills? What say you?
Orange tinged sunshine pumping homerism. Outside of a few decent recruits there is nothing that a sane person could look at and be like "oh yeah this team will be hot sh!t in 2 years".

Fulmer is not perfect, but I am a believer now.

I think my expectation is that by year 3 we are able to beat anyone on our schedule, day in and day out, with the exception of UGA and Bama. Who knows, maybe we catch one of 'em having a bad day, and beat them too. If this happens, then recruiting can really pick up, and we can start to compete with them too.

It doesn't necessarily take top 10 recruiting to accomplish this. If we can stay in the top 20 or so, and develop these players like crazy, then we can get there. It all starts with the off-season strength and conditioning program, which is where we have fallen short the most in the last 3 years, more than in any other area, in my opinion.

Ok sounds fine, serious question though, the two coaches you say ran this program into the ground.... how long did you defend them and post these give them time threads?

Cant focus on what GA is doing in recruiting. Star ratings aren't always exact.
I feel like once Pruitt can build some depth with players that fit what he is trying to do we will be ok. We've been lacking players that have that "dog" mentality, that dont know how to quit. Some players bought in this year, others didn't. Still think it's going to take 1 more season/recruiting cycle to really flip the roster and turn the corner.

Learning to be a great head coach is certainly a process.

Yes! Our 2018 season will be quickly forgotten just like the last decade.

But, we botched the 2001 SEC Championship Game and that is one we still discuss on here.

IMO, losing close in a meaningful game hurts far much more than being blown out.

I don't pay much attention to recruiting rankings. I can see with my own two eyes we don't have enough guys on the field that play with bad intentions, or as the other person posted, dog mentality...Fulmer knows what that looks like and he also knows they're has to be a system in place to deal with it too. He had Cutcliffe for that, until he didn't. You also have to get a QB committed who attracts elite players all by himself...we may have got one, but that's a ways off and we have to hold onto him as well.

Well, we have lost three heart breakers to Bama in the last few years. They are tough to beat when you have their full attention. We either have to have better players, Saban leaves, or somehow Saban gets passed by his longtime understudy.
