Botch on the way to Maryland

I had been waiting for Lyle to get fired for three years. By the end of 17, I didn't care how it happened, just that it did.

So basically you aren't that interested in winning or improving the program. You care more about the man coaching the program.

That would explain your obsession with a coach.

Of course it could be that you are one of these folks that care much more about being right instead of what's best for the program. So seeing that 4-8 season probably got you a little aroused.

Odd way to be a Vol fan. At least in my opinion.

OC for Locksley!
Terrible hire but what else could they get more than likely.

Are you ten yrs old? Did CBJ steal your GI Joe with the Kung Fu Grip? The man took us to 3 straight bowl games, won them all, finished 34-27 (Overall), 14-24 (SEC), made the program better and if you can't see that then take the blinders off. Was he in over his head? Maybe, Did he drop the ball his last year here? Yes! But whether you liked the man or not at least stop with the childish attacks. Wonder how your co-workers feel about your worth to your company or what you bring to the table? It's amazing how many remember the bad and totally throw the good to the side to get their agenda in. Amazing......

Calm down bud!

Why can't we collectively as a fan base show some class and move on from CBJ and show some class? If some of the members don't know the definition of the word, Websters online can clue you in.

The man broke the hearts of hundreds of thosands of Vol faithful. He probably popped kids' balloons and kicked kittens too. 😂
The "hatred" is not personal. He just has to pay his pound of internet flesh as it were. He has a few years more of cartoon level attacks coming (or less if we quit paying the court jester his ludicrous failure fee)

I will "move on" the day after he cashes his last check from UT. As long as we are paying the man, we own at least part of him. Let us get some entertainment value at least for our millions of dollars.

Not being an attorney, I'm out of the legal loop. While logic & fairness point to Tennessee not having to pay Butch now that he has a "job", we are reminded that Jimmy Sexton is shrewd.
These contracts are almost always structured so that any money the fired party makes from coaching only offsets what they’re owed, eg if Butch is owed $1m per year for five years and his new job pays him $400k, then Tennessee is still on the hook for the $600k per year difference.

Although sometimes you have insanely bad contracts like the one Auburn gave Malzahn where a large percentage of the total buyout is due almost immediately after termination. A contract like that really hurts.

I was fine with "moving on" until he mocked us with that f* cigar on national TV. It's Internet-Open-Season on him now as far as I'm concerned.

"You want to get Jones? Here's how you get him. He pulls a cigar, you pull a .gif. He sends one of yours to the bricks , you send one of his to the trash can! That's the VolNation way!"

Most wise men claim to be scholars/academics. Most academics I know are sayers not doers. I take it you are a scholar?

Yikes! Thanks for the information.

Good point. But, remember, low is a class.

I think the thing that all the folks saying "Move on, already" are missing is the blatant slap in the face courtesy of Mr. Jones. The man could have taken any number of coaching positions, both as HC or otherwise, that would have greatly reduced the payout that TN owes him. His flagrant attempts to make sure that TN keeps paying the maximum possible amount are what p***es me off no end. Add to that the fact that he's now left AL to take ANOTHER low paying BS job simply to make sure TN has to pay is simply proof of HIS pettiness and childish attitude regarding his departure. FFS if you're a football coach, firing comes with the job. Be a f'n man and take it. If you had two good brain cells to rub together you'd know it was coming. Obviously, he doesn't.......

Now, add to THAT the cigar episode after the AL game this year and the man can't stay out of the state of TN long enough to suit me.

His inability to motivate players, scheme games, demand conditioning etc. ad nauseam are what got him fired. If he'd simply acknowledged his failure here then moved on HIMSELF I, for one, would have simply said "Meh" and let it go.

But he didn't. He had to rub TN's nose in it and his CONTINUING to do so that set me off. F him and the unicorn he rode in on.

So basically you don't know **** about me or my fandom, because I laid it out perfectly in the post before. The man was wholly unfit to be the head football coach here and demostrated that a multitude of times before I wanted him gone, and continued to do so the following three years he was here. So take your righteous indignation and stick it up your ass, because you're defending a man who has also demonstrated he doesn't give a damn about this university and certainly not you as a fan. Not the hill to die on for your "fandom".

Terrible HC at New Mexico.... To say he is the same coach is absurd. Sure he was an idiot there, but he's got a heck of resume since being let go there. He's also a Maryland guy so the fan base is going to be behind him right away. He isn't a slouch in recruiting either.

Being in DC, I think he is a great hire.... I know a lot of the high school programs are ecstatic about it.

I do question him taking Butch to be TE Coach lol

Lol no he (Locksley) doesn't!! He's been terrible since. Just follow his abysmal career.

Ok, so he left New Mexico after disaster. What does he do? He is OC at Maryland for FOUR years...not a single time merely breaking the top HALF of national scoring offenses LOLOLOL. All this on top of his 3-31 HC record and multiple suits against him! He truly, truly SUCKS!! Worst P5 hire in a long time!!

The argument of Maryland fans that he's a recruiter ignores 2 facts: 1) he already had his chance to recruit his way to success...FOUR years as OC! He won't even get that much time as HC! 2) primarily recruiting-based HCs have a history of abject failure. It's been proven a bad idea.
