That’s what i think. Locksley tried to get Gattis but Gattis declined (which then sent butch with him)... i thought it would be the opposite, Gattis go and butch stay. I think him and Enos will be co-OCs
Intern Butch working his way up the corporate ladder

I think footballscoop.com has been saying Gattis is a potential HC candidate for App. State so there is a chance Enos might have free run at the Bama OC position.

Helton has an 800,000 base salary at WKU. Didn’t know he took a pay cut. I’m sure there are tons of incentives for milestones.
Betting on yourself as a HC...potentially pays off aces. If he doesn’t excel, he can always find another OC gig eventually.

I can’t believe intern Jones was the head coach at TN. That alone should tell anyone how poor the leadership at TN was

He went 9-4 twice and the majority of fans (including the majority of posters on here) we’re defending everything he did wrong.

I’m not saying he was a good coach, but people always defend the current coach as if he can do no wrong until he is about to be fired. Once he’s fired, every good thing he did is erased and everything is his fault.

We want to believe as fans. But almost nobody was happy when he was hired. We started to believe when he recruited seemingly good classes. Dobbs and company bailed him out and we thought he was doing an okay job. But in the end, it became clear that our original fears were true. He’s an awful coach who is nothing more than a snake oil salesman. Fulmer never would have hired him.

He did a solid job. He got to his
Ceiling which was too low and he couldn't sustain it. Doesn't make him a bad coach.
It just makes him an average to good coach. You must be elite to make it here

meh. when the guy is employed, most fans are going to ride with the guy til it's time not to. for Butch, that time varied. my first real question was after the 2015 UF gmae. i wanted him gone after the Vandy game 2016. there were people that wanted him gone before either of those events.

it doesn't matter.

ultimately, jones wasn't good enough, and that was taken care of....and at that point, i don't think there were many left on the Butch Bus. after the GA game in 17, i think pretty much everyone got off the bus.

for the new guy, he just finished year 1. it went "ok". i think people saw enough to maybe pump the brakes on super high expectations too early, and others maybe saw enough to say "i think we can work with this".

either way, regardless of what fans think, it's going to be at least thru 2020, maybe 2021, before we really have a good idea of how good or bad this staff is.

I agree with everything you said here. I think Butch was not fit for coaching at a P5 level, definitely not at an SEC school with high expectations.

I just remember even up to the 2017 season people were defending Butch and saying he wasn’t to blame. I’m not saying you did this, but just talking in general.

I think even Jones got off the bus. Seemed like h gave up because he knew the con was up....he was just going through the motions.

I was out after Vandy 2016. Then I convinced myself it was injuries. But then I was out again after Umass or whoever the game was after GA tech. As a fan you can convince yourself of anything, but when my dad told me he was another Dooley when he was hired, he proved to be right. He’s worse than any of us realized with all the stuff that has come out. He’s not a guy that any competent AD would have hired for a major job.

Jones was good but his problem was he always had to be the smartest guy in the room or thought he was. He didn't know his place l. He didn't know his weakness. He thought he was smarter than Jake so Jake left. He thought he was smarter than Lawson at strength and conditioning so Lawson left. He thought he was smarter at defense than Shoop.

Yep agreed

It's possible he's learned from that. If hire him at a low power 5 or for sure at a lesser school
