No clue to his validity but a FSU 247 poster that their posters seem to believe is legit and hits often is claiming this will be Taggart/Briles 3rd meeting and he expects a deal to be done and Briles to be recruiting for them on Monday.

Take with a grain of salt but not suprising. I haven't expected us to land him since they said he was meeting with FSU Sunday as it clearly means we didn't close

Is it possible that Pruitt is meeting with these guys to get a handle on if this philosophy might hack it in the SEC? To exchange ideas while the actual target (maybe an NFL guy / or Enos) is still stuck with his team?
I know when I interview or evaluate qualifications of firms, I'm always open to new ideas even if someone may not be the pick. Furthermore, I constantly look to others in the industry to keep up on the newest standards, etc.

This smells just as much of a fact-finding mission than filling a position. And your point about a NFL guy would fit with the 95% done statement.

We couldn't hit on one of Freeze's contacts

I’ve got a FSU buddy that’s pretty in loop down there. He’s not sure what they have going on right now. Similar to our situation.

Alright so adding to the future coaching search rule book.

1. Whoever the recruiting sites list as first hot board. Delete from memory and wait for board #2 because it won't be any of them.

2. Quit getting excited about anyone and focus on the one that least excites you because that is probably it
Hell its looking like we’re on to board number 3 at this point.

Even if it’s promoting from within now?
It wouldnt be my first pick, or even my 6th or 7th; but, I trust Pruitt has forgotten more football than I will ever know, and will make the best hire he possibly can make to give him what he cares about most, and that's winning.

It's been refreshing, trusting the process this time around. For 10 years, I didn't trust them to hire a good janitor, much less a good coach. With Pruitt and Fulmer, and WITH TIME, there is not a doubt in my mind they will make us a top 5 program...of that, I am fully confident. I checked out when they hired Dooley, paid a little attention during Butch, until I saw, quickly, what he was...and now I'm comfortable and totally fine with being patient just a little longer.

Yeah but they have some things on their side. Ability to bring in more coaches. Taggart has taken some things from Briles offense in past. So that helps the Kiffin all in comment. Even though Taggart will meddle too. I just think Pruitt is going to be hard press to find an successful OC that doesn't want to bring anyone and wants to have to mesh a ton. You might can find someone that will do one or the other but hard to find one willing to sacrifice both

The thing is, Pruitt is going to have to hire someone he trusts and feels can mesh well with himself and the other coaches. UT agreed to three-year contracts to build staff stability and there's already instability at a critical position. Pruitt's a defensive guy, so Helton was his most important hire. That was a mismatch and now there's turnover. UT may not be able to maneuver a soft landing for the next guy, so Pruitt knows he needs to get this one right. The longer it goes, the more uncertainty creeps in and the less comfortable everybody feels. But he needs to think it through and make the right call.

I wouldn’t want to be in Pruitt’s shoes right now, tough call this early in his HC career.
