The thing is, Pruitt is going to have to hire someone he trusts and feels can mesh well with himself and the other coaches. UT agreed to three-year contracts to build staff stability and there's already instability at a critical position. Pruitt's a defensive guy, so Helton was his most important hire. That was a mismatch and now there's turnover. UT may not be able to maneuver a soft landing for the next guy, so Pruitt knows he needs to get this one right. The longer it goes, the more uncertainty creeps in and the less comfortable everybody feels. But he needs to think it through and make the right call.
