STACEY ABRAMS’ ‘VOTER SUPPRESSION’ LAWSUIT ATTACKS LEGISLATION SHE SPONSORED

Defeated Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams is suing the state of Georgia over alleged and widespread voter suppression, however, the lawsuit condemns legislation that Abrams herself helped pass.

Fair Fight Action filed the lawsuit on Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. Fair Fight was launched by Abrams after her loss to Gov.-elect Brian Kemp to “pursue accountability in Georgia’s elections and integrity in the process of maintaining our voter rolls,” according to a press release.

The suit lists curtailing the duration of early voting as among the election board’s barriers, making it more difficult for residents to vote. However, Abrams was a co-sponsor of the bill to shorten the early voting period when she was a member of the Georgia General Assembly. At the time, Abrams argued that “smaller, poorer counties could not afford the longer period,” reported The Atlanta Journal Constitution. Consequently, she sponsored legislation that reduced early voting in Georgia from 45 days to 21 days.

With 99% now reporting, the Hyde-Smith lead is about 66,500 votes.

Cindy Hyde-Smith (Republican) 469,713 - 53.8%
Mike Espy (Democrat) 403,280 - 46.2%

As it stands, this is the closest Senate general election in Mississippi in 30 years. Espy has done better in the suburbs than most Democrats usually do in Mississippi and the black voter turnout has been high. However, there are just too many white rural voters in this state for there to be anything close to an upset. Still, this is a sign that Hyde-Smith is not a good candidate at all. Trump has a 60% approval rating in Mississippi and she is performing well below that.

Edit: It's gotten even closer with 99% now reporting. A win is a win... but Hyde-Smith obviously has some issues. No way a Senate race in Mississippi should be within 8 points.
You are much more hopeful than I am, with your breakdown of the numbers.
At least the House is solid progressive.

Trump was a factor in these Senate races, people vote with him just to stick it to liberals, they couldn't care less about policy. They generally vote against their own interests, but that has been the case for years.

And they will vote again in 2020, and reelect him. I'm not sure we will ever recover from Trump.

There is no real good reason Mississippi shouldn’t have two Democrat senators. It’s apathy from the voter base. You can cry about racism or sticking it to liberals all you want, the fact is black voters control their destiny in MS and don’t do **** with it. If they turned out in even slightly higher than average numbers the democrat would have easily won this election. Jesse Jackson said if the republican won it would prove how racist MS was. No it just proved how little the electorate cares about who represents them.

Your inference seems to be that Democrats represent blacks better.

Well no, but it’s how they overwhelmingly vote. Looking at the last RCP poll whites planned to vote 84/15 Republican, blacks planned to vote 98/1 Democrat. There are 1350k voting age white people, 800k voting age blacks. Smith got 479k votes, Espy got 411k. I did some basic figuring based off the plan to vote poll and determined that whites and blacks are both voting around 40-42%, fairly typical for a midterm but MS has the lowest voter turnout in the country. If black voters could achieve 50% turnout they put the election into recount territory. At 55% Espy crushes Smith. So it’s not racism or Trump lovers putting her in Congress. It’s a completely unmotivated voter base that could crush the opposition but apparently prefers to sit back and complain instead.

I wasn't criticizing. Merely observing. I agree that most blacks voted liberal. Obviously I don't think that equates to voting in their interests.

Taylor Swift Named ‘Most Influential’ Person on Twitter in 2018

Taylor Swift is the most influential person on Twitter this year, despite only tweeting 13 times, CNET says.
Perhaps it is good for Taylor that Brandwatch did not look at Instagram.

Swift in October endorsed Tennessee Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Phil Bredesen on Instagram, as media outlets previously reported. She cited issues like LGBTQ rights and flamed Bredesen’s opponent, U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN-07).

Bredesen lost spectacularly to Blackburn, who took a commanding lead of 54.73 percent to Bredesen’s 43.89 percent.

Lol. So it begins. This is the type of legislation that will help everyone.

Dems target Trump tax returns in first bill under new House majority
Would be completely unnecessary if Trump would only keep the promise he made numerous times.....but we know that's not going to happen.
Who's the last president that did not make public their returns?
Who's the last president to REFUSE to make public their returns?
Who's the last president to PROMISE to release their returns while campaigning and then REFUSE to release their returns?
Yea, that's a democratic problem....I see your point.

I'll respond and say:
Who is the last Billionaire to run for President that published their tax returns?
Who is the last Billionaire to become President?
Do you really think that putting your tax returns out there for everyone to see accomplishes anything? I bet that the douche Jim Acosta wouldn't publish his tax returns ever.

As far as comebacks go, that was pretty weak.
Publishing your taxes accomplishes one and only one thing.....proof that you have nothing to hide. That's the whole point.
Not publishing your taxes accomplishes one and only one thing - a strong indication that you do have something to hide. That's the whole point.

Also, why do you think Trump continually said he would release his taxes?
Did something change his mind?
Or maybe he was just blatantly lying the whole time because he knew the redhatters would just let it go....I could shoot someone in Times Square.......

Hey dude I can banter with you all night. Watch the news and you'll understand why he didn't release his tax returns. You liberals are just wired too tight.

Why didn't Obama publish his school records? Something to hide? See how easy that game is to play? Maybe Trump is hiding something or maybe he just doesn't want to release those records. Isn't it reasonable to believe that if anything illegal were to be found, the IRS would have found it and acted upon it?

Before you tunnel vision on the Obama comment, I really don't give two ***** about his school records. Just making a point.

I assume he very well may have had something to hide. However, he never continuously promised he would release them, and there was no historical precedent already in place of presidents releasing those records.
Two minor little differences.

Do Presidents or candidates for the office not have the right to decide what they want to keep private? You don't lose your rights when you run for office.
