I don't think he's a good fit AND I think he's overrated. I could see him coming here and disappointing. Particularly w the expectationsDon't get me wrong, I'd take Kingsbury in a second, I just don't think he fits what Pruitt is trying to do. But that can be said for a lot of the guys we are discussing, so...
Kingsbury was overrated as a head coach. There really isn't any questioning his offensive chops.I don't think he's a good fit AND I think he's overrated. I could see him coming here and disappointing. Particularly w the expectations
Overrated is not that same as thinking he isn't good. It's how good they are relative to expectations. So at this point, no he isn't overrated as a HC because he got fired and everyone knows he isn't a good coach. I think he's a good OC, but overrated.Overrated as a head coach maybe. I think people will be beating his door down to hire him as an offensive coordinator.

Kingsbury will not even be a consideration because 1) that isn't the offense Pruitt wants to run, 2) we aren't anywhere close to having the personnel to run such an offense, and 3) there are very legitimate questions if that offense would work in the SEC. Plus I just can't see Pruitt and Kingsbury meshing well on an interpersonal level. They're really different, plus Pruitt hires guys he knows or has worked with before. It would just be a weird move for him. And would Kingsbury even want to come here?
Of course, at present we don't have the personnel to run basically any style of offense, but Pruitt is pretty clearly attempting to recruit big, road grader-style offensive linemen for an offense predicated on being physical, running the ball, and using the run to set up the pass.
I think he is overrated and not good as a head coach. I wouldn't question his offensive prowess for a second. His ceiling as a college coach is probably OC for a big name school in the Big 12. Don't really think his offense would work in the SEC, don't think Pruitt would be a fan, and are so far away from having the personnel required to run it.Overrated does not mean he's not good.
So you think the general consensus is that he's a good head coach? I would disagree...I think he is overrated and not good as a head coach. I wouldn't question his offensive prowess for a second. The "he's one year from turning them around" train just ended this year. He was there for for 6. The consensus on him for a long time, most of his tenure at Tech, was that they were almost about to be really good. He never played even a semblance of defense, which is par for the course in that conference, but he seemingly took it to an extreme. They should've cut him loose after 2015 or 2016.So you think the general consensus is that he's a good head coach? I would disagree...
Ok, so he was overrated as a HC while he was there. Not anymore. The "he's one year from turning them around" train just ended this year. He was there for for 6. No he’s headed to the nflWith Helton looking like he's gone. Do y'all think Kingsbury the former Texas Tech head coach would be interested in being our OC?And if he is would y'all want to hire him? Personally, I'd take him his teams have never had any trouble scoring and he managed to sign Mahomes. Even more impressive at a school that doesn't usually recruit all that well.
Last Monday I watched two former college AirRaid QBs torch NFL defenses for 50+ points and about a bajillion yards each whilst running a variation of the AirRaid schemes. I was told this could not be done because NFL defenses are too big, fast, and smart to be beaten by that scheme and that the QBs are just products of the "system".
Steelers run a pro stylePruitt wants a power football offense. Andy Reid said several years ago that the NFL offenses were 5 years behind college. Looking at the 3 best teams in the NFL (Saints, Rams, Chiefs), it looks like the NFL is catching up. Alabama has caught up. When will the Vols catch up? Answer: When Pruitt changes his mind or we change coaches. Hoping its the former.
For those that don't think an offense like that would work in the SEC, please tell me what Stoops record vs Saban was. I don't think he will be here or fit what Pruitt wants, but to say that the air raid wouldn't work in the SEC is kind of silly to me. If it is so easy to stop, why can't any big 12 team shut down the other big 12 teams? Surely someone in that conference knows something about what a defense is.
