With Helton looking like he's gone. Do y'all think Kingsbury the former Texas Tech head coach would be interested in being our OC?And if he is would y'all want to hire him? Personally, I'd take him his teams have never had any trouble scoring and he managed to sign Mahomes. Even more impressive at a school that doesn't usually recruit all that well.
I want Him BAD

I don't think he's a good fit AND I think he's overrated. I could see him coming here and disappointing. Particularly w the expectations
Top 5 offense 4 times and #1 offense twice. He ain’t overrated. He might be as a head coach but not OC

Please tell us the last year a national championship winning coach ran the true air raid.
I think you are being unrealistic with your question about the last team to win a national championship with the air raid. We are a team right now that can't win enough games to get to a bowl. I don't care who you bring in this year, we aren't winning a national title. My post was pointing out that air raid offenses have beaten teams like Alabama. It is silly to say it won't work when it has in the past.

Working for a couple of random games is a whole different animal then a whole season.

Since Stoops took over at OU for the 1999 season, he’s 26-7 against the current membership of the SEC. I know its not fair to use Oklahoma, but I think its unfair to say that air raid offenses don't work when big 12 teams are averaging roughly 35 points a game.

Some folks soak up the pass like it is the end all. If you don't have O-line play in the sec you aren't going to move the ball period. Bottom line you have to be physical up front if you want to be a contender in the sec and being a contender is what it is all about. I want to run and pass, many spread offenses use a power running game and just because your a good running team doesn't mean you don't pass. Some folks seem more than willing to give up all things physical in the name of the spread and throwing everytime. We need balance and we need to be able to do both and we have to get bigger and stronger upfront or it doesn't make a darn bit of difference what offense we are in. GBO!!!!

Yeah it would be be a total change in style and mentality. Hopefully we're recruiting some lineman that actually block either way
Any linemen we are bringing in next year will take 2-3 years before they’ll be ready to play. And none of our guys knew who the hell to block this year after a full fall camp and a 13 week season, so.....

I personally think Kingsbury would be an A+ hire. He's the best OC available. Other than Mike Leach, there's no one in the country that develops QBs better than him. Top-notch QBs would be begging to come here. I think he'd do wonders with JG. Also, given his flop as a Head Coach, he'd likely be here for a reasonable period of time (i.e. 3+ years). 4-5 years down the road if we're rolling, then he'd be a top HC candidate again.

As an added bonus, he's much less ethically challenged than Hugh Freeze.

I just don't think Pruitt wants to hire an Air Raid guy.

But if Pruitt would just be a bit open-minded here and Kingsbury were willing to modify his offense slightly, it could work brilliantly. We'd have one of the best offensive minds in the game paired with one of the best defensive minds in the game.

Pruitt wants a power football offense. Andy Reid said several years ago that the NFL offenses were 5 years behind college. Looking at the 3 best teams in the NFL (Saints, Rams, Chiefs), it looks like the NFL is catching up. Alabama has caught up. When will the Vols catch up? Answer: When Pruitt changes his mind or we change coaches. Hoping its the former.
Bama hasn't caught up, they were already ahead winning with smashmouth and adjusted to the strengths of their QB. But make no mistake bama is a power running or power spread team. No matter how you slice it them and Georgia are always strong in the trenches and can run any play they want and have success. Bama has simply added a layer, they can still win by pounding you in the mouth. I watched Stanford wear out Oregon by running the ball down their throat and keeping it a few years ago. I have nothing against passing or the spread, it's when the spread takes the power out of it's running game it isn't going to win in the sec. Especially without a great defense, relying to heavy on the run or the pass in this league without being able to do the other will get you beat 9 times out of 10 in the SEC. Defenses are tough big and fast. GBO!
