This is all I could find with a quick search on mobile:

“The buyouts for Tennessee is the remaining salary due each assistant coach, though it is mitigated by the salaries at their new jobs. Every new coach would owe Tennessee 33 percent of the money remaining on their deals if they leave before Feb. 28, 2019. Those buyouts drop to $50,000 on March 1, 2019.” -247

That suggests that LA Vol’s figure is basically right. Something north of $800k for Helton, depending on when exactly he left, etc.
Won’t pay a dime. That’s designed to keep coaches from making lateral moves not advance.

And Dave Aranda was a big-time coordinator when hired.

But in any case, the larger point is that Dave Aranda’s contract doesn’t tell you anything about Tyson Helton’s contract. I’m sure there are plenty of differences between the two.
Just give me an example of when a school collected from a coordinator making a jump...until then it’s window dressing.

From reading some tweets of current players, there seems to be a decent sized segment of the team that know that there are a lot of players that are not bought in and they want them gone as much as we do. Super refreshing actually and gives me some hope that we will weed out most of the the losers and the quitters this offseason and get on track. The young guys clearly believe that we are on the right track and that change is coming, maybe we should trust them since they are the ones that will create the foundation.

Also our best seniors like Tuttle, who have been through it, see Pruitt as a great coach.

Dave Hooker has been a hack his whole career. He has no legitimate sources and it seems the focus of the article that we better watch out or Vandy is going to out-recruit us in the midstate?
That article was written by Rainman. 97x bam! The first year head coach excuse! 97x bam! The first year head coach excuse...

I would at the very least give Joe Osovet a long hard look at OC. He’s extremely innovative on RPO’s and would run a offense that I think I could get behind.

I could get behind that but i don’t think we have to QBs to pull that off. He’s similar to Moorhead offense running a lot of 2nd level RPOs. That would be a tough ask for JG right now but in the long run could maybe work.

I don’t know about Pruitt, but every contract is different. We ponied up big bucks for Helton with a 3-year commitment, so it would be reasonable IMO to have some mutual commitment on his end (i.e. a buyout if he left early, for any reason or job).

I have not looked at his contract though, so no idea what it says. LA Vol seemed to have a number in mind — not sure if he was looking at the contract.
This. Every contract is different. LA said yesterday that he'd owe us $800K+. Not sure if he was aware of the details of the contract.

Something to keep in mind is that Debord and Chaney weren’t splash hires and most of this board hated the hires, but they’ve over saw some pretty potent offenses.

What I’m saying is that splash and philosophy matter less to me than personality fit and ability to/feel at calling plays (which comes with experience doing it).

Look for Tyson Helton to get the WKU job. No inside. Just a hunch

From the reports that I've seen, it looks as though he is the front runner for the vacant WKU job. It makes me wonder when he threw his hat in the ring, though.
Many are saying that if Helton does indeed leave, then we should look at Hugh Freeze as a candidate for our OC. I have to say that if it were my decision, Freeze would prbably be my first call.

I don’t think the SEC will allow us to hire him. I think they would allow Saban to hire him but not us

Im just sitting wondering who is the first defensive minded head coach who will actually put his head together and hire an OC from the Briles or Leach tree.

As the head man, you can bend things to benefit your defense, and let the offense score 40+ a game.

Tony Franklin (MTSU) is a name to keep an eye on. He’s from the Leach tree too.

So you think CJP is going to really consider a coach that is as spread as the spread can be?

Franklin practically is the architect of the spread

I certainly hope not

Well said

I really don’t think it’s going to happen. Pruitt believes the offense needs to sustain long drives in order to keep his defense off the field as much as possible.
