If we can pay 1 mil plus for an OC then surely we can find someone that’s proven and has called a game before. Of course nothing about Tennessee football surprises me anymore.

It didn't work because Pruitt and Helton didn't seem to be on the same page. Hire the right person and trust them to do their job. So either Pruitt didn't hire the right person or he didn't give the person he hired the freedom and trust he needed to do the job.

Either is certainly possible but if you asked him he’d tell you it’s the former. That he hired a guy he’d never worked with before and that the results weren’t good because of it.

And he’s the guy making the decision on the replacement. Which, to me, makes Friend or Lindsey the most likely hires. In fact, there could be a scenario where we promote Friend and hire Lindsey as pass game coordinator and QB coach.

That is true I have seen this happen before where the other school had to pay for buyout.

I'm beginning to think landing Hurts at least for a quarterback competition in the fall is more important than finding the right OC.

This. I know the talent hasn’t been there, but there really seemed to be zero improvement at that spot. On the momentum-crushing sack following Vandy’s missed field goal and the Jordan 19 yard run, Tatum got beat inside badly but looked at the left guard like he was supposed to have help. If that’s what really happened and we’re still having those kind of miscommunications in game 12, that’s not just inferior talent getting run over, that seems like poor position coaching.

Remember that many of the OL guys didn't go through both spring and fall camps, in some cases missed part of both, and then with Kennedy and Trey lost at different times, along with other guys missing games and guys having to change positions due to no depth, it is hard to maintain continuity and familiarity along the line, and makes communication difficult. So many guys missing camps was a critical blow to players who desperately needed lots of practice and familiarity with each other before the season started rather than trying to learn fundamental during game weeks. This team was behind the 8-ball before the season even began.

I'll say Friend. Simply because no one named Bobo should be able to put a top ten offense on the field.
