Tennessee is going NOWHERE with JG

A strong arm??? He literally under throws every single deep ball. Not once has he led a receiver on a deep ball.
That's actually not his arm strength but that he doesn't set and throw on time. The LT whiffed on the sack he took today... but in the replay you could still see JG holding the ball with 84 coming out of his break up field. The ball should have already been gone.

Not necessarily true. Pruitt probably has settled on JG at QB for next season and by pulling him, he might hurt his fragile ego, which could affect his play next season also
Better QB MIGHT be sitting on the bench. Never know

Boy, I hope Pruitt hasn't decided on JG for the QB for next year. I agree he was the best option for this year but I just don't think he has the skill set of an SEC QB. I have trouble deciding whether JG makes Helton look worse than he is or Helton makes JG look worse than he is but in my mind, this is not a good combination.

Thank God someone with cojones steps up and calls out Pruitt and staff! UK and Auburn were luck for JG. What I can't comprehend is why JG's not benched. For my 30 years as a VOL teams like UK, Vandy, Mizzou would be gimmes. this is how far the football program has fallen.

I've lived in Texas for awhile and see better QB play from my kid's 3rd string high school QBs (Westlake's produced Drew Brees, and Nick Foles and the current Texas QB)

Where's Pruitt's Alabama like defense? This team is a joke, albeit a Butch Jone's joke. Barely beat Charlotte? Throttled by GA, FLA, BAMA ....not even competitive .....If Pruitt and staff can't motive or coach in year one we have another Dooley to fire in 3 years.
I think you can call the Auburn game lucky as every 50/50 ball went our way but the Kentucky game was JG’s best game of the year by far.

I dont know about that. Think about something. Shrout is Pruitts recruit. He inherited JG. I think Shrout will seriously push for the starting job. And there is a very good chance he gets it.
I know that you and others think that I somehow don't like JG... but I hope this is wrong. I hope that they put a better OL together and JG spends his entire offseason in the film room. I hope he can improve and become a really good QB. I truly hope that the only way Shrout or the kid from FL beat him out... is that they're GREAT.

The one that killed me was a 15 yard drop then under threw Calloway by 10 yards.

I dont think you hate JG. Its just you seem to believe you know exactly what his problems are when you dont.

Evaluators will always look at a guys arm strength and accuracy to determine how good of a prospect they are. But it's really all about decision making and moxie. And jg doesn't have it. He has absolutely terrible pocket awareness. The only TN qb I can think of with worse pocket presence was matt Simms. Jg never avoids pressure by stepping up into the pocket and he checks down almost everything. We've called more down the field passes than he's thrown. We have to hope that Pruitt goes with someone else next year
Matt Simms was Brady compared to JG.

So, you'd be happy with 1-11 as long as that 1 was on the road against a ranked SECW team.

OK

Nope. Didnt say that at all. But the fact is, our 2 lone conference wins happened with JG as the QB. He could very well lose his starting job next season. If he does, then so be it.

I'd like to see a compilation video clip of the times he either got sacked or got hammered after he threw the ball. I agree he's slow to get the ball out, and doesn't seem to have the peripheral vision to detect heat. Given that, the OL gave him plenty of heat, and I think the way he played in these last two games may be a culmination of all the hits he's taken all season. Last year too. Kid has taken a pounding.

It's not all on him, however he is NOT a dual threat qb. In today's Vandy game, Tim Priest was screaming "You have to get the ball out quicker". Hitting the passes way to close to the boundary, with the only option the receiver had was to let his momentum take him out of bounds. The passes to Callaway weren't precision throws. They were very high lobs and the success of the throw was the winner of a jump ball. He's a tough kid.

In hindsight, we should all appreciate the speed Josh Dobbs had. He was able to overcome some of the same things Guarantano can't.

Nope. Again, I know what I know and it informs my opinions... just like you. I know he's late throwing the ball because you can see it. We can both see that he doesn't react and make opponents pay when they blitz him. He doesn't make reads and hit hot receivers for big plays. He "thinks" too much and it makes him a half count late. I don't know how someone could coach him out of these problems or even if he can overcome them but they're not that hard to see for folks who've watched as much football as we have.

I dont claim to know exactly what his deficiencies are. I am not qualified. So I defer to the coaches.

Ok then whats the solution?
That's a great question. The best solution would be for the OL to develop and for JG to learn how to read D's, make timely decisions, and deliver accurate balls on time.

Short of that... they still need a better OL and a QB who can read D's, make timely and good decisions, and deliver accurate balls on time. Hopefully if it isn't JG... it is Shrout or Maurer.

You may not be qualified to know exactly what causes a jet engine to fail in flight... but you would know what failure looked like.

Think about it a little. How many times have they exploited the middle of the field? How many slants have they run with JG? How often have the deep passes been thrown to the sideline and generally between the receiver and the sideline? I never though KC was a good answer... but how many times have we seen JG recognize a blitz and blister a D like KC did on his first drive vs Mizzou? KC is a guy with a fraction of JG's physical talent... but he saw that. If JG could master pre-snap reads it would make a huge difference in his game. You don't have to be a coach to see that he struggles with that... just watch his reactions.

It is the coaches' jobs to figure out how to "fix" him... if he's fixable. The general recognition of his issues doesn't require you to be a college level coach.

How do we know that both the OL and JG wont improve? We know the OL is undersized, slow, weak and hit garbage. Also, mist of these guys are on their 3rd OL coach since coming to TN. Mahoney, Wells and now Friend. I mean Wells was a GA for crying out loud.

JG is in his first season with a QB coach. He is on his third OC since coming to TN. Missing a big part of his SR of HS kind of hurt him. Now those arent excuses. Just some vpfacts and observations.

Who knows what will happen next year? JG could very well lose his starting job. If I am being honest, I believe he will. Shrout was Pruitts guy, lets not forget that. He inherited JG. But when our OL plays well, JG can make all the throws needed. He isnt a top notch QB, but he isnt garbage either.

So the O Line is throwing the ball now? That's new.
your right the o line doesn't throw the ball, but they are suppose to give the QB time to throw it. They are not doing that. I'm not saying that JG is or isn't a good QB. But as long as UT has these passive linemen that can't block on passing downs or open running lanes for the RB's Tennessee is not ever be very good no matter whos the QB.

After seeing JG in person today..... I do have to question his abilities..... he holds the ball way too long...doesn't throw the receiver open..... can't tell where the blitz is coming from and etc.
Helton isn't helping him at all with his garbage play calling ....wtf is up with the passing game and the routes they're running. Everything takes too damn long to develop.... the line sucks and JG throws late..... why hasn't Helton adapted to this at this point in the season?
