The problem isn’t the record, it’s how we looked. Saban went 6-6 his first year but never lost by more than 1 possession. Smart only lost one game by more than 14 points. Pruitt has lost 5 by more than 25.

Pruitt’s scheme only works if we have Bama level starters and backups. Right now UA, UGA, & UT have around 20 commitments for 2019. UA has one 3*, UGA has three 3*s, UT has twelve 3*s. For comparison in his 2nd recruiting class Smart only signed five 3*s. Pruitt’s second recruiting class looks a lot like Butch’s second recruiting class. Guess he was a great recruiter at Alabama because the program sold itself.

You're right, there are a lot of similarities between Butch and Pruitt. I forgot about Butch having 5 rings and national recruiting awards.

I like to see the comparison of schedules and how dominant those teams actually were that saban never lost by more than one possesion
Are you claiming that saban faced 4 top 10 teams?
(Or teams that were in top 10 at some point that season)

I will never get the 15 years back I lost watching the last 5 years of the con artist we had coaching our vols. Everybody in the athletic department should be let go for not firing him years ago. Butch proved over and over again he had no idea what he was doing. 75% of the lineman on this team couldn't play on the elite high school programs across the country. With that being said, I think we have the right guy now. If butch was still here we would have lost to Charlotte, Auburn and Ky by 40+. it's a sure sign CJP will turn this around, by winning 5 games with what Butch left us with. I don't think any coach past or present could have done better.

I think the issue with the people who aren't enthused with Pruitt is NOT because of what he has or has not done. I think it is because when Kiffin came, I immediately looked at him as a used car salesman. I thought he would win BUT I also thought that he was unethical. Others were excited about him because he stood up to Urban Crier and also to Spurrier. He also sold his coaching staff to all of us as the best around the S.E.C. Then when he left and he had chased off players and recruits, people were disappointed.

Then in comes Dooley. I think most of us quickly realized what we had in him as our coach. He did recruit fairly well, in the beginning, Hunter, Da Rick etc. etc. but he turned out to be what we thought he would be. We were told on this website
to accept him and give him a chance. We did! Then we lost, then won, then lost the LSU game due to 14 players on the field.
That was a classic Dooley game.

Now Butch comes along. He won at Central Michigan. He won at Cincinnati. He was also excited to be here. We gave him a chance and in the end we were disappointed.

So, most of us are taking the Wait & See approach. We got excited with the past three coaches and it all ended in disappointment. Few are taking that approach again.
Fair enough, but I already have seen improvement from last year. Despite our OL being dog$#!+, we have put up more points in games than we did last year. We were 0-8 in the SEC last season, but won two of our conference games this year. We beat two top 20 teams in Auburn and Kentucky. And we have a chance to spoil Vandy's season and go to a bowl. We have a ways to go, but you better believe that I see improvement in our program.

How many 3*s did missouri have last game?

Hmmmm. I think that's a pretty clear review of the wait-n-see side.

Just to go back to the beginning of the coaching search and remember where we started. CJP was not our number 1,2,or 3 pick. But even if we got one of those guys, the talent deficit and lack of depth and players development was going to be a tall task. It would not matter if Nick Saban, Dan Mullen, or CJP was named HC, there was always going to be a couple years of re-building. I, along with the rest of Volnation, is so tired of the rebuilding year affect. But we have been rebuilding for years. This is more of an overhaul than a simple rebuild. We have the funds, we have the fans, now we have the coach IMHO. The W's will come to those who wait. And frankly, what other choice do we have. Accept it and enjoy the ride to the top, or fight it and be disappointed until then. Either way, the process remains unchanged and getting better will take this year and two more.

Pruitt has done enough in year 1 to meet the initial eye test for me. He has improved our 0-8 SEC record to at least 2 wins (and hopefully 3). He pulled off a huge road win at Auburn. He was competitive, and probably blew, another road win at SC. A good win against a fairly decent Kentucky team. The team looks to better coached, generally. He still has a chance of a winning overall record. That's a good start. He deserves 3-4 years before we even start to panic.

As a disclosure, I was deeply disappointed that Curie was not allowed to hire Mike Leach. So, if I can get behind what Pruitt has done, I think others should be willing to be patient as well. There will be moments like the Missouri game next year, and maybe even in year 3. Let's back Pruitt with all we have to give, and time will tell if he can get it done. He's not conning himself into believing that UT's recovery is right around the corner. He is holding his program accountable to the standards of excellence to which he is accustomed. He's not going to sell you a pile of bricks like Lyle. That's why he seems to have so little joy in him right now. We should cut him some slack, imo.

If you are really dumb enough to think butch and Pruitt have similarities... wow these two couldn’t be more the antithesis of each other.

The level of stupidity on this board is astonishing

This season has taught me the one way to defuse the pain is to put my focus on things more competently lead. Thankfully, one of them is the men's basketball program. Finally.

Uhhhh Im sorry but even though Pruitt took over the worst roster in Tennessee history & Helton is working with an offensive line that is smaller than most JV high school teams we should be undefeated. I played pee-wee football so I know everything about football ever and Pruitt should hire me.

Ole how sweet it will be in years 3 and 4, be patience or go find another team.

Right. With this hopefully top 20 recruiting class coming in (and if we're lucky not in the bottom half of the conference) this staff is gonna start kicking ass in a couple of years. Just gotta get CJP's 3*'s in here and get rid of the 3and up *'s left behind!!

Patience grasshopper. These coaches know what they're doing. If you can't see improvement in that 50-17 loss to Mizzoo compared to the 40-14 beatdown by WVU, you're just a CJP hater that knows nothing about football and should go pull for another team.

My version of nut hugging. Was it convincing?
