Probably UAB, assuming Bill Clark leaves. Although, the Blazers might require head coaching experience.

The simple fact is this years success or failure is riding on Saturday. If we win it's been a good year and that will give the staff some motmemtum going forward and much needed extra practice

If we lose this season is a failure anyway you look at it.

Either way the success overall of Pruitt isn't going to be defined by year1. He simply gets more patience if year 1 is a success.

You guys can call it whatever you want but that isn't being a nega in my mind

I agree. It’s an incredibly fine line between success and failure for this team if you are looking at the on the field product as a whole. Pretty unique situation, but it is what it is. If we played Alabama last with the same record, I think everyone would have already made peace with not going bowling. But the fact that it’s only Vandy standing in the way changes everything.

Full disclosure, I will always be of the opinion that a win over Vanderbilt is a birthright as a UT fan.

Well are there any SEC openings anticipated? I doubt he would have taken a job outside the SEC given that is where almost all of his experience is from. Looks like he made the right call taking the TN job. This year i doubt there are any other jobs comparable where he would be a good fit?

the only opening or potential opening i could see him considering, or hte program considering him, would be Louisville or North Carolina.

and i'm not sure he would want either job since they're bball schools first.

that probably wouldn't work for him.

i could see him passing until.............

Don't remember that one. Was it in the fourth quarter?

All I ask is they apply the rules--in whatever fashion they interpret them--equally. But they don't. And worse, they don't even through reviewed plays.

I would have accepted 5-7 as being an encouraging year IF there weren't 5 losses over 25 pts and a loss to Vandy to end the year bu now if it happens this way it's a clear failure of a year

I'll admit that I don't know the ins-and-outs of the NCAA rulebook, but everyone keeps talking about getting to a bowl game and getting those crucial, much-needed 15 extra practices. And I hope we get to a bowl game, too, because I love seeing the UT football team playing. But, if we don't make it to a bowl game, how much structured S&C can be done? If it's a significant amount, I'd entertain the argument that getting into structured S&C is just as important, maybe more, than 15 extra practices.

Everyone knows how this goes, you recruit well in your first class because you sell them on the rebuild. Second class more of the same. But eventually results have to show on the field for recruits to buy what your selling every year. I think they've done a masterful job selling the future this year. I think we close very strong on this '19 class. Don't see a much better result on the field next year so the '20 class will be a little harder. By '20 we better be winning some games.

This just seems like an overreaction at this point. You really don’t think we’ve seen anything to suggest this staff could get us to be the third best team in the east? Look at UK and Mizzou and how terrible they were in their staffs’ first years. Look at how up and down Muschamp’a teams always are. Hell, look at what Butch was able to do 2 of his 5 years.

Getting to be 3rd in the East isn’t exactly a huge task and continuity is underrated nowadays in CFB. Mizzou, UK, and Vandy are all set to lose key players and drop off next year. We could end up being 3rd in the east without even having any impressive wins.

The east is up a little more right now than it has been in years, but the middle of the pack teams are about to lose a lot of production and go into rebuild mode.

If the Liberty Bowl wasn't so eager to invite UT, I think the staff would be okay ending the season and focusing on recruiting. But Memphis is key for recruiting and the coaches want to strengthen our foothold in West TN. And Pruitt has noted several times how important beating Vandy is for Tennessee fans. Most of the players are used to losing to Vandy-- would be just another L to some of them.
