#8 Washington State

Leach is a lose cannon. I was in the “get him here” camp for a couple of reasons, the entertainment value and his offensive game plan.
A year later I recognize that he is always on the cusp of being canned for something controversial leaving his employer to begin yet another coaching search.
Being his AD would have to be stressful.
“Leach is a lose cannon”. The irony in this misspelling is fantastic! 😛 Should be put on the peddle stool of the VN list of lovable sayings.

He might have been a better option considering the type of players we already had on campus. He is more of a finesse style coach whereas Pruitt wants to be smash mouth. I like Pruitt's style but he is at a big disadvantage until 2021 when he can establish his own roster to support his style.
Everybody keeps saying it will take three or four years to have a good team. How did Kirby Smart at Georgia get damn good in his second year?

Can’t disagree with the spelling error, however the irony of you not knowing the difference between irony and spelling errors is epic! Did we go to the same school?

You can’t be serious. Am I missing the blue font? Really? Does anyone even need to respond to the differences in where each program was when the respective coaches took over? Come on. Get a freakin clue.

That is the key point! We needed a guy like Leach to get us back to winning 9 or 10 games on a consistent basis. After a few years of stabilization, they could of then hire a defensive minded smash mouth coach to go for the championship.

I know no matter what, it is going to take a few years to rebuild the program, but it has to be done the right way. The admin can't keep throwing good money on unproven coaches and just be satisfy with the occasional toilet bowl trip!

They're top 10, 8-2, and looking good tonight. Their quarterback looks solid. Any thoughts on having Mike Leach wrapped up and Fulmer torpedoing the deal?
Look at Leach’s first 3 years at Washington State. They were terrible. Nobody could’ve solved our problems in year 1.

Wow how old are you like 14? So if Leach goes 3-9, 5-7 and 3-9 in his first 3 years like he did at WSU that’s what we need ??

Well I have nothing, I made two mistakes in a row and you rightfully called them out.
Come on man, I loved the lose cannon. We need more friendly interaction around here instead of everybody being so sour pussed all the time! It’s a great thing to be the author of a new VN saying. You are our latest Valid Victorian! 😃

“It’s “ or “it is”, I knew it wouldn’t take long...

Not a very good comparison. Richt left Smart a bunch of talent, and Smart pulled in the 6th ranked class in the nation in 2016, and their dip in his first year was primarily due to starting a freshman QB, and a new system on both sides of the ball.

They had one-point losses to Vandy and GT, lost to us on a Hail Mary, and lost to a 14th ranked Florida by 14. Their only "bad loss" was getting 31 point loss to Ole' Miss.

Look, I’m being consistent and NOT trolling. Leach at UT would have been a grand slam. May have been the best offensive shake-up in the SEC, combined with a unique personality at head coach since Spurrier. You want a head coach that would have made your rivals go “uh oh, this might be bad for us,” it would have been that guy.

Has Fulmer ever elaborated on exactly why he thought Leach was a bad hire? Have any UT reporters asked him about this?

Let's liken UT football to a corporation.

Let's say I am the new head honcho of a failing businesses and I have this dream of rebuilding UT back into a powerhouse that can compete with Alabama, but can't afford to hire Nick Saban to operate the company.

I narrow the applications down to two canidates that I can afford and have shown genuine interest. The two canidates are Mike Leach and Jeremy Pruitt. Knowing that a successful company cannot be built in a day, I go over the resumes and see that candidate A (Leach) is a proven head coach who has stabilize two programs and has won consistently in his previous jobs. Candidate B (Pruitt) is an unproven coach/ coordinator under Saban, which in some cases is not always a bad thing.

After interviewing both of them, I come to the smart conclusion that Pruitt needs to build experience at a small school before handing him the keys to UT football.

After four to five years of Leach stabilizing the program, I am now ready to take a gamble and make the smash mouth defensive coaching hire. Maybe with head coaching experience at a smaller program under his belt, Pruitt could be that hire.

UT when Pruitt took over and WSU when Leach took over don’t compare at all in the length of time a rebuild would take

I don’t think any coach in the country could of gotten WSU to 10-11 wins without it taking 3-4 years

Yeah. Leach would’ve been a poor fit. And Fulmer didn’t “torpedo” anything, Beverly Davenport and/or the university president and boosters did. Fulmer wasn’t employed by the university when Davenport ordered Currie to return to Knoxville so she could “suspend” him and nix any deal he might’ve made with Leach without her authorization.

Do you think his wins come without winning the LOS?
Ask anyone outside the UT bubble who they would prefer to have as a head coach , CJP or CML and see what kind of answers you get.

A proven winner with a track record of making bad programs relevant. What kind of crazy person would want that guy as the HC?
Which begs the question why hes spent his entire head coaching career (2000 - 2018) in its entirety at Texas Tech and Washington St.

I've watched every one their games this season, and you don't have to look any further than their o-line for the reason for their success. If I've said it once, I've said it a hundred times, football is won and lost at the line of scrimmage. The teams that win, win up front.
