OC Coordinator ?

Not bashing this staff. The previous staff and particularly Jones... deserve far more "bashing" than they got while here or have gotten since they were fired. I don't know if they're better or will succeed but the current staff is definitely trying to clean up the mess created by Jones' arrogant incompetence.

Geeze...

My question was when will the bashing of the last staff stop because YOU stated Pruitt had to move the OC to the sidelines because the last staff didnt coach them. I was pointing out how damned stupid that was by asking if Saban keeps his OC on the sidelines because of prior poor coaching.

It is childish to make a statement like the one you made. One that is non-sensical but somehow is supposed to paint CBJ in a bad light. Your and others obsession with doing this is sad and ridiculous.

Geez.... I said that because it is pretty much the reason Pruitt gave. He needed Helton to be "hands on" with the players on the sideline. I added the part about being poorly coached by the last staff... but that's definitely no significant leap of logic. It isn't an O made up only of Fr... and they aren't the only ones that need heavy coaching.

I haven't taken time to go back and see which of you folks were hardcore Jones cultists.... but he'll stop getting bashed when his poor job as HC stops being relevant to team performance. That is a progressive thing... it is still VERY relevant to this team. Next year it will be less so. The 3rd year belongs to Pruitt alone. But right now... he's still trying to recover from a VERY bad HC.

No. The truth just makes you uncomfortable. Maybe you still carry a candle for Jones?

Pruitt took over a team with 4 consecutive years of really, really bad OL's. That is and was a product of the HC- his "techniques", recruiting, development, offensive scheme/philosophy, etc. Jones brought in OL coaches who had been successful elsewhere. Much like Shoop... they suddenly became incompetent when working for Jones trying to teach "his way". Going all the way back to the spring before Jones' first season there were reports that former OL's who got to observe UT practices questioned the "techniques" Jones was having taught to the OL's. Some of these guys did/had played in the NFL and many played for Fulmer's good OL's. There were other "whispers" that the studs on UT's OL that year basically refused to do it Jones' way. Unremarkably... OL performance got worse from there and was never "good".

So you don't want Jones blamed... but are OK trashing the kids who are trying to overcome his pathetic coaching?

Culture change isn't an easy thing to do and it doesn't happen over night..... you need a good supply of team leaders and right now ..... who are they?

Helton first moved down to the sideline at Allbarn and that worked out pretty well.

Some players have said that Helton on the sideline brings much more energy.

Pruitt said that he likes Helton on the sideline for a few reasons but 1 of them is that Helton can grab a player and look him in the eyes and better gauge how that player is taking in what he's being coached and if the player has a defeated look in his eyes, ect.

Some OCs and DCs prefer to be up in the box where they can better and faster see the schemes, formations the other team is trying to run and try to call down a change fast enough to adjust the players on the field.

Other OCs ad DCs prefer to be on the sideline where they can get right to a player fast and try to correct a mistake they see on the field quickly but then they need a assistant in the box that can see things fast and tell the coordinator what he's seeing so a fast change can try to be made on the field before the snap is made.

Football is a huge and very complicated chess game with lots of moving parts all moving at the same time.

Our OC will have many more good options after he gets a good O line and better players at every position and then we'll really see what magic Helton and the O staff can work during games but I think we'll really like what we see in a few years because we'll be hard to stop.

VFL...GBO!!!

I keep seeing idiots blame the OC and QB. Are you guys REALLY that blind? Their hands are tied! We have the worst OL in the SEC! No time to pass the ball downfield and no holes for the RB! Our offense is set up for a pocket passer and a power run game. We can’t do either with the OL that we have now. Open your eyes! What are they supposed to do? Well you run screen passes and short passes to the flat to get the ball out fast. That’s what we did the SC game and what did people do? Of course they bash the QB and OC for short passes! It’s non-stop here. Same story just a different day....

So it’s your contention that anyone that believes that KC might have put up more than 1 TD on Charlotte is an idiot? Please explain that..

Ahh you are one of the QB bashers who wants to completely overlook the number of rushing yards and blame it on the QB. He was 16/21!! That is not a QB problem. The defense knew we couldn’t run and we had no time to throw downfield so they just had to cover short routes. Unless KC can block and pass no he wouldn’t have did much more.

Before you argue about all of them being short passes or holding ball too long. He held ball longer so players could get down field! You can’t have it both ways.

He did. Not sure how Helton felt about it but that's the way Pruitt stated it.

Its not like we don't have somebody capable of sitting in the box for Helton and reading defensive strategies.... Weinke? Who is in the box?

Is you don't already know, ask your parents where your weinke is located...

They are dead, Thanks for ass-u-me(ing).....I have some guesses thoughts about where Weinke is, but Respect the Board to post.

but I can recommend a couple of good therapist if your obsession doesnt ease up soon.

Just let me know. Take care

When I stop being "obsessed" with the truth... then you can recommend a therapist. Reality is reality and... reality is that Jones was a very, very bad coach.

I hope everyone realizes that Helton is a rookie OC.

He is but this late in the season he's a rookie no more. Also we had 4 or 5 running plays right up the middle on little traps that worked well. Seemed like a new wrinkle, but it could be we are just now getting better execution down pat, regardless, they worked and worked well.

ok

he was a bad coach. However that had absolutely zero to do with CTH moving to the sidelines. Well, outside of your obsession. with all things CBJ it didnt.

But just let me know when you need the recommendations

Lol. He most certainly is still a rookie OC. Especially in the SEC. You don't become a journeyman play caller in 10 games.

I'm confused. ( not being sarcastic ) This is his third year as an OC and has been a finalist for a coaching award as an OC.. Not counting his role at USC.

1. Why does he constantly call plays to the left side? Pretty predictable.

2. Why is he on the side-line ?

3. How much longer will he be the OC ?
Maybe the OC Coordinator is just stretched too thin since he's also overseeing the Office of Redundancy Office. :)
