The QB Debate - post South Carolina (merged)

Yes, you are right it should but many in this thread get triggered over the slightest criticism of their particular favorite. Sometimes the criticism is warranted, sometimes it is not. I think most feel that we have tried our hand with JG why not see what KC has to offer, not like we are trying to protect our perfect record. Regardless, the next year or so neither will be our QB but that is just my opinion.

I am ahuge JG supporter but he definitely has things to work on in his game. I know fans like to talk about him not being able to read a defense or he holds onto the ball too long. But I dont know if either is true. Maybe it is. If it is, I believe its because of the amount of hits he has taken over the past year and a half.

I mean Pruitt has said on multiple occasions that even when we max protect, the opposing DO still gets in and clocks him. Now that could be his fault. But given how poor our OL has been in recent years, the OL has to be more to blame. I am excited to see if he can improve even more next year.

just because it isnt said doesnt mean it isnt thought or subliminal. the real argument a lot of times is not the real argument......there's something else underneath!

Most people like you probably don't even know Guarantano's race make up, yet want to accuse people of something as disgraceful as racism. Hurry, go Google and tell me!...

Joshua Dobbs was one of the most exceptional football student athletes in the school's history. Jarrett Guarantano? Not so much.

When alot of people watch Guarantano play they don't see any color but red...

Do you not remeber last season, when everyone was yelling to bench Dormandy in favor of JG? People wanted the kid to have a shot to see what he could do. As for stats, well they are just stats. They can be manipulated to fit any narrative. Honestly, I personally give two sh**s about stats and who our QB is because neither JG or KC is gonna do us any favors this year, as far as a decent bowl game. Vol fans want to win and 99.9% of them do not care about stats and who the QB is under center as long as it means a win. When losing like we have over the last decade, what does it to hurt to ask for change and see what happens? What is the worst that can happen, another loss?
and as soon as dormady was bench, this same stuff started.

well thats probably because i never really post downing the guy. but i see PLENTY of post downing JG........almost by the minute....no matter what he does.

"50/50 balls" vs auburn..........that will always stick out
even the announcers were referring to them as 50/50 balls so there's that

i dont want to call you stupid, but you are if you think i or any of his "haters" believe this

and why would u see red? hmmmm......

JG is a terrible down field passer and there is way to not see that. Every deep ball he throws the receiver is stopping to catch because he does not have the arm or talent to make the PROPER throw. Chryst's throw to JJ and Byrd were perfect in stride throws. Something we have not seen from JG.
Dude has the arm talent ..... can't say much about anything else.... but he can fling it

if it was articulate and it wasnt about anything like race.....then why dont u all trust pruitt's decision? and fulmer....a former coach who won our last title supports pruitt's decisions. you dont even see chyrst's family raising cane about it.......! but no.......a few of you....yall know better than all of those people, stats, etc. combined. man can lie, woman can lie........but the numbers tell you. yet, you guys find excuses for those too. so what else could it be? the real folk who are looking dumb are the ones who are still trying to hide it.

Oh good grief....here comes the race issue....

New Mexico State ranks 105th in total scoring at 24.4ppg. Tennessee lead by JG scored 24 points against SC. So technically Tennessee lead by JG can only put enough points on the board to beat 25 teams in the FBS on average if we are using an average SC team ranked 55th in total defense as a baseline. SMU ranks 84th in FBS with 27ppg. Did the defense play great? no. Did they hold SC to the bottom 3rd of FBS scoring average? yes. A QB who “just sometimes wins” recruited to a top 15 NCAA program should be able to score enough points to beat the 55th ranked defense who’s offense only scored 27.
You can't apply averages like that to a single game situation though. We only had 8 drives that game, not including the kneel down at the half, due to the offenses both being able to sustain drives. We scored on 4 including 3 TDs. SC had 8 drives with 3TDs and 2 FGs. The offense, including Guarantano, played pretty well and the defense didn't. There's no reason to use averages to try and change what we all saw.

I’m only comparing averages because there’s no absolute in sports. What I saw and see is a QB that can’t take a team and a fan base on his back and say I got this as the most important player on the team. I see no energy surrounding JG. I watched the Auburn replay and let’s all be honest, we did not play great Auburn just played bad. Everyone was ready to crown JG after that game but did he really play that good. Our offense is handcuffed with him at the helm. Unfortunately our team needs more than an average conservative play call QB. I will say I don’t dislike JG, but I need to see that spark. There’s more to being a QB that just completed passes, you have to lead. KC came in to the Bama game and provided a spark. And just to add one thing... I can’t remember many University of Tennessee QBs that weren’t exciting to watch. JG is not for me.

Let me translate. "We dumbed down the play book and only wanted him to throw sideways because that is all he can do. Therefore he wouldn't stand back there and hold on to the ball all day. Plus if he got hurt in the game, any of our other three QBs and maybe a couple of receivers could have come in and thrown the ball sideways so we wouldn't have had to change our game plan."

Maybe they should make him carry a football around 24/7 until he gets to tired of it and starts wanting to get rid of it. Maybe it will translate over to game play.

Hmmm, so I wonder why JG is 4th in the SEC in yards per attemot?

Very well said and my feelings as well

Yeah sure, almost every pass was a damn dump off. You do realize in that 29-37 he threw for a whopping 207 yards. Barely 5 yards per attempt. Face it, JG is not good.
That’s why Chryst needs to finish the season!! He has an arm to throw deep. JG cannot do that he can’t read defenses well and put points on the board. In these last 4 games if they don’t play QB by committee we win 1 maybe 2 more that’s it. I’m not seeing a bowl this year after the SC debacle. We had that game WON but the damn defense threw it away in the 4th quarter. There’s no excuse for blowing a 21-9 lead. NONE!!! Inexcusable!!!!

Just comical. EIGHT passes that RESULTED in an over 10 yard gain! Now, I wonder of the eight how many were YAC? When you consider that factor it's even more humorous how simple that offensive gameplan was the other night for a quarterback.

I've read gouge that says JG was only at ~ 75% for USCjr. Is that true? If so, is a 75% JG better than a 100% KC?

No dog here, just asking.

they'll never admit it, but i agree. i really think it does! i mean its the same exact thing. dormady and worley were always better than dobbs just like dormady and chryst will always be better than JG in the eyes of certain individuals.....no matter what they do well

an admin deleted it when i said it, but its def real. im glad imnot the only one who sees it

You and one other have stupidly played the race card here. Very common tactic of those who see race issues where none exist.

If you weed fans away that disagree with you the stadium will be empty.

You not showing will definitely not leave the stadium empty......
