Curious so looked it up. Listed are our guys weights coming out of HS.
Richmond - 275
Tatum - 260
Johnson - 245
Niehaus - 250
Brooks - 255
Plenty wrong with doing that. You end up where we are, starting guys who are way too small and get rag dolled in SEC play
Noticeable difference between our OL and top level SEC OLs.
He's listed at 220 playing inside linebacker. For comparison sake, Christian Miller and Mack Wilson are playing ILB at Alabama and are listed at 240. He's undersized for ILB, and despite having the most tackles, was there any time watching that game where you were like, "Wow, Sapp stopped that RB at contact?" If you trip someone or get dragged down the field, it still counts as a tackle, I guess...
People take seeing someone miss a tackle once or twice as always being out of place. When in reality if he keeps his feet like Pruitt is preaching he makes Those tackles. He was in the right spot twice on missed tackles but there are several guys that have old habits of diving and reaching instead of keeping feet and running through. Pruitt has gotten a few guys to change that from early in season to now.
I think the difference in a lot of these is frame. Lane Johnson got up to 280 after one redshirt year. Your frame can only handle so much. Tatum for example has gained about 45 pounds and still looks like a big TE. Johnson did not look small at OU. Richmond was 275 and size is not an issue in collegeLook at the top NFL tackles. Tyron Smith was about 270 in high school. David Bakhtiari was 266. Lane Johnson was a QB in high school at 202. Terrean Armstead was unranked and couldn’t find a weight. Trent Williams was 290. Joe Staley was a TE at 225. Russell Okung was 250.
Joe Thomas, probably the best tackle in the last 15 years, was 270.
Not sure what other proof you need. What failed in our case was development and strength and conditioning.
It explains why our linemen move around so poorly. They’re all holding weight they’re not comfortable with.
So his view is irrelevant because you are frustrated with your own perspective? Once upon a time we used to learn from our elders rather than discrediting them.
