The QB Debate - post South Carolina (merged)

[QUOTE="

He had more attempts the second half. He had just as many drives throwing the ball in the second half as the first before they Just went to handing off. He wasn't good. No excuse.

"He wasn't good." Well he put 2 TD's on the board so what does that say about JG who put 0 TD's on the board? And you are a fool if you think they give out QB ratings over 90 to QB's that "wasn't good" for a half of football.

How old are you... 5?
His rating was 92.4. That isn’t a good number for college football actually. That would rank 114th nationally for the season just behind Cordale Grundy from UTSA. I’m not saying Chryst didn’t play better than Guarantano that game. He did. But a 92.4 passer rating is not good. This isn’t the NFL rating system.

He's already on the roster..shrout
I'm a big fan of CJP and the staff. Not sold on our OC yet but we're young on that side so he gets a bit of a pass. Next year with an experienced QB, Jr/Sr laden offense vs a weak schedule will tell the tale of our current staff. Look for the 2020 class to produce our next great QB if Pruitt turns out to be a successful coach. Look for Chryst to be a coach or salesman after this season.

You don't score over 90 on the QB scale if you play bad the 2nd half of a game. coaches put KC under center and decided to run the ball the 2nd half. Why? I don't know unless they were trying to limit more injuries at QB since they didn't know the extent of JG's injury.
His 92.4 rating would be ranked 114th in the season passing efficiency rankings. That is not a good number.

Be honest..how many times when dropped back did he have more than roughly 2.5 seconds to throw the ball? My gosh this “KC needs to start” over JG doesn’t have enough reasonable evidence
I agree. I would start Guarantano if healthy.

I thought Chryst played great Sat. I also believe that had it been a close game when he entered Saban would have pressed us into oblivion with everyone within 15 yards of the line of scrimmage and Chryst would be exposed. JG gives us a chance because of his arm talent. He's got a lot of improvement to make but it's clear that he is doing so every week. I think he's gonna be a good one before he's finished. People UNDERESTIMATE how bad Jones was at developing QBs and the damage it had on both Dobbs and JG.
JG will give us zero chance if he keeps getting killed.

Why is my messages replying as other quotes

Be honest how much time did JG have to make any plays when dropping back?
Team blitz JG because they know he struggles to recognize it and they don't believe in his abilities to check into the right call. Until he proves otherwise he's going to continue to get hit. Jeremy Pruitt made the comment that if he doesn't like getting hit then he should check into the correct call. My issue is if he's struggling that bad and the coaches recognize it then 1 of 2 things needs to happen. 1. Run a check with me offense and let your OC be the brains and call checks or 2. Go to Keller Chryst before JG gets hurt even worse.

Getting the ball out quicker not JG problem

JG's release is not slow, he throws a great tight spiral, his footwork and drops have improved and look good. He is physically a gifted QB. He needs to see blitzs better and make the necessary calls to get a hat on the guy coming or go to the hot read and get the ball out. He also needs to get us in better run plays when we're outmanned at the POA. He appeared to be improving at Auburn but Bama was obviously showing him some looks he didn't read properly. That said IMHO the only way JG doesn't trot out on the first series is he's too banged up to go. They probably start him but if he takes another big shot he may not make it all day. I just want the guy on the field that gives us the best chance to win and I trust the coaching staff to make that decison. On a personal note I don't want to see a 20 YO kid who's already beat up get hospitalized so my team can win a football game so I'm hoping CJP feels the same way.

Tua gets blitzed more than any QB in the conference, here's a suprising fact for you, teams blitz every QB because it's an effective defensive play and always has been. Teams blitz for a number of reasons, weak OL being one. To think that the S Carolina coaches are saying hey let's blitz Tenn because JG is bad at it is crazy talk. Other than Tua nearly every qb in the country struggles when the ol struggles to block the blitz. We've had 7 blocking 5 several times and still let an unblocked rusher get through, I guess JG should have prevented that.

I believe JG will get recruited over and will eventually transfer.
JG will start both his Jr and Sr season. No way does he not start next year, Pruitt will not put his job on the line with an unproven Fr unless he is clearly better, and right now nobody on the current roster is better and we're not recruiting a stud QB this class. 2020 class will be big for us to get a top QB.

There is always the grad transfer that can come in but with the perception that KC has not been given a fair shot Pruitt may struggle to gain the trust of future grad transfers. Some believe JT Shrout may be the future but I am not sold on him either.

For every successful grad transfer in football there are many many more that don't pan out. We've got 3 on our team now and zero of them are helping us win games. Pruitt will NOT go the transfer route for his starting qb as it would be suicide unless the transfer is considerably better, doubtful there are any grad transfer QBs out there that will be as talented or will have earned the coaches trust like JG. Everyone thinks the kid from Clemson is going to be great somewhere but it's doubtful unless he goes to a team that can showcase his running skills.

Jalen Hurts?
He's not even transferred yet and most in Alabama, including those on the bama staff think he will stay. He's a terrible fit for our offense anyway. If he transfers it will be to Auburn, Kiffen or a Texas team. CJP would take him tomorrow because of his character but it's doubtful Hurts has any interest in Tn if he transfers.

Maybe not but given the opportunity I think UT has to take him and I agreed the Clemson kid doesn’t fit the system. For what it is worth I do believe Pruitt needs to stick with JG for the time being but I do not believe he is the answer long term.

It was 94.2 and after adjustments 98.?... It is higher than JG has had all year long.

JGs highest rating in the same QB score was a 87.7 against Auburn. That's JGs highest rating so what does that say about his passing effieiency... But if you had a clue you know that QB score is not passing efficiency.

JG has like a 137 career ranking, not sure where you got 87.7. JG also is rated very high in some of the NFL matrix ratings.

I honestly think that there is more to JT than is evident. There is the possibility that CJP is trying NOT to use JT this year and he will be in the mix next year. If JG doesn't improve at reading defenses we won't have to worry because he will be out permanently. The kid will get himself seriously injured if he doesn't learn.
