Recruiting Forum Football Talk [RIP 9.3.2019]

They’re garbage...but I don’t really disagree with them on this one. This is somebody else’s party.

It's a football game. World's largest outdoor cocktail party or not, it's a game, in public, where anyone who has the money can attend regardless of affiliation. I'm aware that UCF annoys a lot of people with the "2017 National Champs" talk but it's not worth threatening them.. And they are in the state of Florida, it's not like they're coming in from Utah or anything.

I'm disappointed in your post, butchna.

Obviously threatening violence is the wrong reaction by the Florida fans, and that would never be acceptable under those circumstances.

However, that was a low rent idea on the part of UCF. It’s one thing to show up and fly your flag like Wash St fans do. But it would be very disrespectful to crash the Cocktail Party with hundreds of fans. Here’s an idea: schedule a big time game and maybe they’ll get gameday in Orlando. A stunt like the one they were planning was likely going to only further ostracize their program more than their BS national championship campaign has already done.

They already know they're the little brothers in the state. A couple of buses wasn't going to make that much of a difference in a sea of tens of thousands. It's not they're party, sure, but it's not an invitation only thing. Gameday is gonna be there but that doesn't guarantee coverage or exposure. It's not like UCF is a rival of Florida's or Georgia's.. a couple busloads of Tennessee fans may have been more dickish.

I thought it was a funny idea that should only have been taken lightly, but apparently people are so closed off to anything outside their bubbles that paying your way to fully enjoy a football game can be met with hostility.

I’ll live with that. Online noise and “threats” are difficult to differentiate. Vol fans are familiar with the genuine nuts, and no...serious violence over a game is bull. But the resentment towards an ORGANIZED caravan from another school at one of the great traditional SEC game sites is on point. Individual UCF students wanting to attend the Great Cocktail Party would prolly be welcome, but the school busing em in? With their recent history? If I was a bought in Dawg or Gator, I might throw a faceless “I’ll kill you!” into the Twitter machine...but I most likely wouldn’t. Been acclimatized to modern reality where a nut would actually do it. It’s a shame. You used to be able to yell “we’ll kill you!” to opposing fans in plain sight, and they’d know it was part of the game. UCF made the right decision to back off. It’s a shame they had to be threatened to be decent.

They've been rotating guys constantly all year.

Which has been part of the problem, but has been necessary at the same time. It's time to stop after seven games. Hall and Carvin are not #1 guards. They are both RT's, when healthy in Hall's case and when experienced and in better shape in Carvin's. The problem with all that rotating is no chemistry develops where each knows what the guy next to him does. I'm not seeing what they keep seeing is beneficial in playing guys in the wrong spots if the lesser performers play at all.

For the situation now you move Richmond back to LT unless you have a better one ready to go. You take your next best T and play him on the right, which is probably Tatum or Hall. Then start Locklear and Niehaus at G and ride for the rest of the season if possible. The 6th man is J-Johnson if healthy.

The school ORGANIZING it took the “funny” as well as the fun out of it. Would’ve been light if it was spontaneous. It’s a know your place thing. If UT had rallied our students and paid to ship them to the Iron Bowl, I’d say the same thing.

Wait...

You don't disagree with them threatening physical harm to another human being?
I don’t disagree with the sentiment. Maybe they should post the actual threats so one could judge what they’re reacting to?

1) Their recent history of beating a really good Baylor team, being sucky again, and going on an 18 game win streak?

3) I remember the pre-internet world and yeah, "We'll kill ya" in the context of a football game wouldn't have been taken as a serious threat, but these ain't them times.

4) Again, it's a football game. There's nothing indecent about a booster club paying for their tickets to a football game, even if it doesn't involve their team.

The school ORGANIZING it took the “funny” as well as the fun out of it. Would’ve been light if it was spontaneous. It’s a know your place thing. If UT had rallied our students and paid to ship them to the Iron Bowl, I’d say the same thing.

UCF Knights Watch is a booster club/alumni group as far as I can tell. They're the ones that organized it. They thanked the school for their support, but their statement made it clear that the fans paid the way. I know VN tends to lean into the thinking that "caravans" are paid for by shadowy figures with immense wealth and power, but this ain't that, Chief.

And again, there's no on-field rivalry between UCF and UGA or UF.. so no it's not like UT fans caravaning to the Iron Bowl where some of our shittier fans would think they're justified for being belligerent.

Yeah we really need to flip Gray. Looks like a decent bet we get him though I think
I think I'll be happy if we land Wright and Gray and finish around that number ten spot. Just haven't followed recruiting as closely this year. Maybe that comes with age.
