The QB Debate.... Post Bama (merged)

I sure as heck didn't name him POW. Those Twitter awards are about as worthless as his self centered tweets.
good thing they didnt leave it up to you either......nor do you own or run any type of judgemental publication because you'd be way off

OF had more attempted passes u. The second half than first. People are full of crap claiming we threw in the towel and that is why he was bad second half.
This is really the kind of claim that illustrates your disrespect for facts. I'm guessing you meant KC instead of OF? If so, KC came in with under 9 minutes left in the 2nd qtr. In the last half of the 2nd qtr, he completed 5/7 and had two TD passes. Total UT threw 17 passes in the first half not counting JG's sacks and 8 in the 2nd half. It wasn't throwing in the towel so much as shortening the game to keep Bama from scoring 100

If 7 attempts is enough to judge the first half then 8 is enough to judge the second.
And... 60% with no sacks and two TD's is enough to say he performed MUCH better than JG, right?

Pruitt and Saban both said they finally made adjustments second quarter. They worked. Bama adjusted second half and he was worse than JG in the first.
I know you want to believe that... but it simply isn't true.

So I guess Saban and Pruitt made that up?
No. You did.

And Shrout? If JG continues to struggle? When has he struggled? The last game he played a full game he was NPOTW and beat a ranked team on the road.
He's struggled in exactly the ways the article posted earlier says. His physical ability gets him so far but when it comes to what the author calls "intangibles"... he falters. That's not "hate"... just a fact.

Your agenda is showing again. I'm sure when JG beats SC you will disappear like the week after AU.
So... if UT wins then "JG beat them"... but when it was pointed out for months that he'd never beaten a decent team... it was the team's fault. Someone's agenda is showing... but it isn't mine.

I have one "agenda"... for UT to win. I don't care who plays or doesn't. I just want them to play winning football. When JG fails to make the right line calls or holds the ball or fails to read D's correctly and all the things you continue to want to ignore... he isn't doing the things to make UT successful.

The difference between the two of us is that I'm a UT fan. That's my "agenda". You're a JG worshipper. That's your agenda.

It just becomes repetitive to have the same discussions in multiple threads. Just an attempt to organize. It's not perfect though.
I like merges, except when somehow there are now 63 pages and clicking takes me back to the beginning, even though I’ve read 3/4 of the posts already. But it happens. Not a biggie.

There are 63 pages in this thread? 🤔

the hate.....because it damn sure cant be his play. he's dealing with a depleated o-line. one of the worst in college football, yet he has us competing. so u tell me what else it could be.........

on the other hand.....a transfer aint did nothing but lose the qb competition and some of u blamed everything including the coach. its pathetic

Competing?

40-14
38-12
47-21
and 28-0 when he went out in the 2nd quarter

I realize we all have opinions but in those four games surely no one sees those performances as competing.

Maybe SC, UK and Vandy will change my mind but i don't have a good feeling about them and doubt JG is going to all of a sudden start seeing things he hasn't to this point. My guess is if he starts WM will dial up a blitz or two and JG will be blasted again with a wide open receiver.

Lol. You have no clue what Chryst would or wouldn't have done in those situations. That Auburn team has issues and anyone in the stands could see it. Regardless, the chances of BroadwayJay duplicating those prayer of heaves that everyone in the JG fanclub so fondly refer to are so slim and shows just how fortunate Tennessee was to win the game.

I've seen Chryst play plenty during his time at Stanford. Hes a good solid dink and dunk guy. Thats what he is. If Chryst was the better QB, guess what...He'd be starting genius. I'm just glad we have someone like him as our backup, a very solid QB. But JG has way more talent than Chryst does.

Going into that game that Auburn team was supposed to be having issues on offense, but was supposed to have one of the best defenses in the SEC, although Fitzgerald and MSU had exploited Auburn in the run game. But Auburn was still supposed to have a strong secondary. And that secondary shut down Ta'amu and Ole Miss this weekend, and that is a dangerous passing attack. Whether JG has more games like that in him, I don't know, we will find out no doubt.

I like both QBs and feel either one of them can be effective. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. JG maybe a little more consistent with his accuracy and throws a better ball; and doesn't throw INTs. The latter may have to do with holding on to the ball too long and taking a lot of sacks and body blows. KC makes better pre-snap reads (although I believe both had issues against Bama, which is I think what CJP was alluding to when he criticized the QBs in his Monday presser), he has a very nice medium range throw, and he gets the ball out of his hand in a hurry. The downside of that is that he is prone to more INTs because of his ability to get rid of the ball so quickly that he can't always account where the defenders in the area are.

I think the offensive guys will play hard for either of them, but they love JG and his toughness. And I would imagine if the medical staff says JG is good to go, the coaches will roll with him. I can't see the coaches making a QB change because of anything that happened in a game they knew was going to be a mismatch.

Wonder how he scored 94.2 on the PFF QB ratings?

UT’s wide receivers and running backs caught everything close that he threw, and more importantly the Bama player dropped a sure interception that he threw right to him.

So what QB went into Auburn and torched them?
I get that he did great against auburn and if you check all of my post I have been on here defending jg, but he has been starting since the South Carolina game last year and he hasn’t done anything special except one game where he threw for 300 yards and 2 tds. Jg has been in college for three years and he plays like he’s a true freshman. I’m not gonna get on here and pretend to know if he can read a defense before the snap or after the snap. All I know is kc got the offense in the end zone in the Florida and bama game when jg couldn’t and I believe kc gives the vols a better chance of winning. I don’t believe that cjp would be wrong if he made kc the starter next game because jg hasn’t done enough to lock down the job.

I really use to feel this way. I use to argue that the coaches see them in practice and they know who the better qb is so jg must be the better qb. I used to want to argue with folks about why they want kc to start when he can’t even beat out jg. I really don’t give af now because jg really hasn’t showed anything when it’s game time. Put kc in, hell put Jennings back there, he’s the only one who seems to really want to compete. But all this back and forth about jg and kc is getting ridiculous. Jg has had plenty of opportunity to showcase his skills and he’s only had one good game. He hasn’t really performed well against the cupcakes that we’ve played

When Peyton Manning was here, and even during his NFL years, he was often criticized and sometime mocked for his technique. Remember the Happy Feet nickname?

What made him truly elite wasn't his physical technique - it was in his heart and between his ears. He worked harder than anybody, studied more than anybody, soaked up every piece of information he can get to learn and get better, and practiced like a madman. He knew what defenses were going to do before the defenses knew what they were going to do.

We simply have nothing like that right now. Jarrett has a strong arm, but it's those intangibles that he is missing. We just don't have the answer in play right now.

hey sherlock.....wanna tell me how many other teams are COMPETING with the teams that produced those scores?

then you'd have to show how silly you sound.....and if just anybody could just blitz and he get blasted like u wish claiming to be a fan.....why do we not only have 3 wins, but a win over a top25 team? oops!

JG played a good game against the Auburn and deserved the acknowledgement last week. Keller played a good game against Bama and deserves the acknowledgement this week.

This is not rocket science.
one won the game and the other went scoreless the entire 2nd half, yet u scream good game?
bwaahaahhahahaahahaaaa

Had JG completed 60% and thrown 2 TDs and no interceptions he would have had a good game Sat no different than Chryst.

JG had a great game last week.
Chryst was good off the bench Sat.

I'm not sure why some feel the need to tear one down to feel better about the other.
