The QB Debate.... Post Bama (merged)

So you don't like an opinion so you want to simply shut it down..?
It's not like the subject is off base.
I guess some just find it a little odd to refer to it as "unbelievable" as if it's outrageous that Chryst didn't get singled out. I mean... we lost by 37. There wasn't a lot of praise to be heaped.

Other than getting stepped on what criticism can you share of Chryst this game?

And I don't the play calls but I do know that one QB put 2 straight TD drives together and the other one didn't.

I'm really shocked how defensive some of you are of JG.

How so?
Isn’t the first TD drive you reference the same drive in which JG took the big hit to complete the long pass that setup the first TD??? How does Chryst get credit for that?

If you don't think Chryst played a great game then there's nothing left to say but somehow we got 14 points on the board against a defense that literally was toying with us before Chryst entered the game. And in my opinion (and everybody has one) we may have scored more if the coach had not put him under center the 2nd half.

Most of the time you don't find much good in a game like that you want to talk about especially in front of a mic. If you decided to he and Jennings were the obvious bright spots on offense. I'll take a team full of Jennings attitudes.

What are the odds that Tn goes into the Vandy game with 5 wins and a possible bowl appearance on the line? Gee, that would be eerily reminiscent of something. There'd be a signature win against a top 25 team thrown in there as well.

Id like to know what there was to criticize about Chryst play in the BAMA game. Other than getting stepped on by a guard at the beginning of the 2nd half Chryst played very well. 2 TD drives in his first 2 possessions BAMA never stopped his passing and it might have continued if the coach had not put him under center, handing the ball off the entire 2nd half.. Guess Pruitt watched a different game ... but seriously this is unbelievable .. What do you think???

Thanks for the laugh

With the exception of Kentucky (never thought Id say that) the schedule is somewhat weak. I guess the SC game will give us a clue. Firestorm Warning! (wait for it) In my opinion we win more games with Chryst than if JG returns.

Very well maybe the case. Pretty good chance Vandy will be playing UT for their bowl game.
I think they have a good shot at Vandy being number 7. Schedule sets up pretty well for us against UK and Mizzou. SC is the only one that doesn't.

If you want some really good listening, go listen to today’s presser. (Listened on radio so don’t have link). Especially when he talks about what needs to be done to run the ball successfully. His logic and explanation of expectations are spot on. To the question, I’d imagine he’s not in much mood to compliment anyone on saturdays game. I think he was talking about the QB position missing a lot of reads where we didn’t check out of plays Bama had us schemed up.

Catching UK at home after they go to Mizzou and play UGA the week before is a plus.

I don't think most people contest that. I think the issue here is how you fabricated this false narrative about CJP calling Chryst out for bad play. I'd like to see Chryst because he reads a defense and plays smarter; if nothing else but to rest JG and let the poor boy heal.

He does not say that... he say qb and later position... Not once does he single one out. I would think he might actually credit Chryst with his great performance and getting 2 TDs on the board.

He and Helton did give Keller credit in the best way possible. With JG apparently Okay and standing next to CJP with his helmet on Keller played the rest of the game. From all accounts JG could have gone back in but Keller played becuse of his play.

You know what you just pointed out is scary. All good coaches find something in a loss to talk about that can be built on for improving and I didn't hear it from Pruitt. Chryst was the 2nd highest PFF rated player in the game. He was rated over 90 for his QB play. And all I hear is people putting him down or declaring that JG would have done the same if not hurt. I guess if the coach were to point out Chryst exceptional play against an overpowering opponent that the JG fans might revolt and that would be a temper tantrum.

I am gonna chalk this up as coach speak. Like to think it's a move to quell any QB controversy the media might try and drum up.

All I know is Chryst was under center almost every play in the 2nd half and on the 2 TD drives he was in the shotgun. I listened to some radio but there was so little said about the game I turned it off.

Look if you say QB play was bad then the question is .... is Chryst a QB? Or are you that far gone?

Pruitt surrendered at the begging of the 2nd half when he put QB under center and handed the ball off so at that point it did not matter who was in the game and BAMA had the ball almost the entire 4th qtr.

I am not being a smart a$$ when I ask, you still think jg is the better qb based on what? What has jg done against good teams that says he’s the better qb. Better teams meaning: wv, uf, and bama. KC came in against Florida and bama and led the team to touchdowns when jg couldn’t.

That last sentence is critical. While neither are elite QBs by any standard, Chryst has performed in some situations where JG didn't. That's worth a deeper look at least.

I'd agree. The coach is protecting his decision for playing one over the other just like he ran the ball the 2nd half instead of trying to score just to lose gracefully. Some coaches put winning or at least trying to win over looking bad... not a good sign of things to come. And for those that will say we had no chance of beating bama let me just say then why play the game or better yet why not pull JG earlier in the game since he was getting killed. And if you think it was to keep the score respectable then guess again as BAMA did everything they could to not score in the 4th.

They have a QB that is a threat and with our D pass coverage Sat. it may take more than catching them after Mizz.

You might ought to tell Stoops how good he can throw it. He only got 9 attempts against Vandy Sat night. Completing 3 for 18 yards. They are dead last in the conference in passing. He'll be a threat to get on the ground as a runner but even a decent thrower he is not.

They play Mizzou this week and if they can get by them UGA the next week for the lead in the east before they get us. The schedule sets up well for us.

Comparing Bama's passing game to UK's is ridiculous.
