The QB Debate.... Post Bama (merged)

lol sure and the earth is flat and dinosaurs never really existed
If Calloway is looking at Chryst when he throws the ball he could have adjusted immediately by stopping his route. The ball would have went right to him. Hell he could have even backtracked a little bit. They are almost routine plays at the College or NFL level.

I honestly don’t know which of the two gives the team a better chance to win. When they get the ball out, either seems to throw a decent ball.

But I do know that Chryst seems to be able to play without getting killed. JG does not.

JG may be better at one point but it’s obvious Chryst is a much calmer and better QB right now.

He needs to start from here on out.

I know it’s only been about a quarter but he is much more poised and the game is much slower for him. A blind man can see it.

I'm going with the Coaches decision. I got a pretty good idea they know just a tad more than you!

lol you could make this argument for any under-thrown back shoulder pass ever. The whole point of a back shoulder throw is that the WR turns his head at the last second so the DB has little time to make a play. But the QB has to have it within the WRs catch radius.

Unless a WR has eyes in the back of his head or a psychic connection with the QB telling him to cut off his route, then that throw isn't getting made. KC did a good job getting the ball out there and not getting sacked, but that ball was not where it needed to be.

I simply disagree with you. Chryst put the ball in the best place for a completion to occur based on the time he had to release the ball. He did take a hit immediately after the throw. Remember we are discussing Chryst vs. JG. I believe this is one example showing Chryst as a better decision maker than JG and was a response to the poster who was talking about the lack of stats later in the game. This play was statistically an incompletion but should not be graded as a bad play or counted against Chryst from a coaches viewpoint.

An example tonight . JG has stacked receivers on the left. Two corners near the line. The safety creeps down to 7 or 8 yards from the line - receivers. This is the tip that a corner blitz is coming. It could be a fake blitz. So the QB should audible a hot route and make the blitz work for him. Something safe , like the low receiver in the stack runs a slant. He will be uncovered. A blitz is an opportunity to a solid signal caller. Jeff Fisher almost refused to blitz Peyton. Instead of taking advantage of the blitz and attacking it ....nothing was done. and the play was blown up .

This is not an indictment of JG . I am pleased with his progress. He doesn't understand coverage . There are a hundred other examples. This ability alone would be a massive improvement

Coach basically said JG is ok and will be back. JG gave Jones a big bear hug after the game. It's probably a brusied clavicle and a slight concussion. Just a guess. Still should have been flagged and we should have returned the favor on the Bama star.

He did not have a good game today. He looked very overwhelmed. I don’t necessarily blame him because the left guard whiffed on about 15 blocks. I would be embarrassed to be on national tv and play that poorly if I played like the majority of the oline. They looked like high school players

Same I hate to say but the play that tua came up a little gingerly I was wishing that he was hurt bc there is no reason saban should have put him back out there and score another TD just to rub it in a little more

Yeah because Pruitt and Helton want to play the second best QB

It is evident after today that Chryst is the best option in game situations. Too bad we did not rotate both players in the first 6 games. Chryst's advantage in reading defenses would have been apparent before today.

Only a true loser would wish for a player to get hurt, regardless of the reason. Pitiful and shameful.

So if you don't have time to make a throw, it's on the WR if your pass if 5 yards behind him? WRs run the routes they're told to run. The QB has to know where the WR is gonna be and get a catchable ball to that spot. This argument is beyond silly.

As for whether this play would be counted against him or not, we can't really tell without knowing the playcall. Either the pass was too far behind Callaway, Callaway ran the wrong route, or KC thought Callaway was running a shallower route and he threw it to the wrong spot. Given that he was pressured, the first of those seems like the most likely explanation. Maybe Pruitt will give some insight in his show tomorrow.

Keller came in with no pressure down 28. He made some great throws. Won’t take that away from him. But unless he just continues to light it up in the 2nd half, JG is the guy of healthy

Hard to tell much of anything based off of today. We'll see how KC looks if/when he's the guy defenses are planning for.

He definitely seems more composed, but I'm not sure he's gonna be able to make enough throws to make much of a difference against SEC defenses.
