I think Dooley was pretty smart football wise. I think Jones was well below average at this level from a football IQ standpoint.
A big part of that was Dave Lawson. Biggest mistake Butch made was parting ways with him.Dooley has some football IQ and knows Xs and Os a bit but he couldn't manage the team or his role as a head coach for ****. Jones from 2013-2015 at least had the program on an upswing and seemed to field a disciplined, hard-nosed team. But ultimately he felt he didn't belong with the big boys and his decision making was due to that insecurity. Haney's article was actually spot-on.
Hmmm I don’t know about disciplined. Truly disciplined teams don’t blow big leads like that 2015 team did. 2013 loss to Vandy was pathetic tooDooley has some football IQ and knows Xs and Os a bit but he couldn't manage the team or his role as a head coach for ****. As much as we are seeing improvements across the board, Vegas will only have Tennessee favored in 1 of their last 6 games. Still a ways to go but for sure can see it heading in a good direction. And I'll add, we have to expect this to be a blowout. So, while it's happening Saturday can we please not do our usual meltdown acting like it's not supposed to happen. If it turns out better than expected we can be pleased.
For sure. I really like his offense at Mizzou. Very creative
I don't think the argument anybody was making was about "ceding" and just not trying at all to compete. I thought guys were saying to handle the game smart enough that we come out of this game healthy enough to compete in the games we actually can win. This is an SEC game, man...you plan and play it TO WIN IT, whether you can or not. Ceding anything to ANYONE beforehand is for the biggest losers, in the world of sports.
Lock looks about the same to me. His stats (really all Mizzou’s offensive stats) were boosted against horrible teams last year. Odom is a puss and runs up the score on bad teams. Dooley is better than Heupel scheme change or not. They’ve been able to score on good/mediocre teams consistently this year lolDools was quoted that he changed nothing in the offensive scheme at Mizzou during one of their games covered by SECN. He has emphasized running the ball more that Heupel. I think it has helped their overall offense. What I see regressing is Locke's play and I don't know if that's on Dools or their QB coach if they have one.
You want the guy that was in charge of 4 of the 6 worst losses in UT history and the worst season in UT history? While that very well might be true, more goes into coaching than simply “knowledge” “football iq” “x and o’s”, ect. I’m not sure Swinney would be top 5 coach if that was the case. Give me Butch
