Interesting.. I was looking for Austin Pope stats (spoiler: there were none) to see if he played against Auburn and I wound up on a team tackles game log:

I don't know if this can be used as a metric to illustrate how our defense is kind of coming together, playing more as a team, or if I'm just looking for something in a pile of statistical nothing..

For the second time all season (the only other time was WVU), our defense scored more assisted tackles than solo tackles:

Opponent / Solo / Assisted

ETSU / 28 / 24
UTEP / 27 / 18
Florida / 30 / 22
Georgia / 42 / 32
Auburn / 37 / 44

Any insights from someone who may know X's and O's better?

I'm hoping Pruitt can have a similar run to what Saban had at LSU. Sounds crazy, but part of me is hoping Saban stays at Alabama long enough for Pruitt to get a program built here before he leaves for Alabama.

I am not sure I would go that far. He was successful at every stop and then improved our program (for a couple of years). You have to have some knowledge as a coach to get that far. As has been discussed and discussed, it appears he made a mistake with S&C and couldn't manage the egos at the P5 level. I believe he was also too thin-skinned to hire coordinators and allow them some freedom.

I do agree that we have a legitimate football coach now. My guess is that Butch will get a chance at a G5 school at some point. There are bunch of below average G5 schools that just can't get over the hump, and there is no risk in taking a chance on a guy like him.

Fulmer more than likely has already hired the only football coach he's going to in his tenure as AD. He's going to retire in four or five years. I'm just hoping Haslam won't be hiring the next AD and head football coach.

Be happy for once, or at least talk about football not administrative nonsense. Our team looks good and on the upswing. If you want to look into the future, we have a surprisingly good defensive line that will need to be replaced next year.

I don't think anyone was discussing when to fire Pruitt last week. If they were, I'd like to fight whoever that is.

I'd bet good money if Pruitt gets it going at Tennessee, they'd go after him before they would Dabo. He's younger, would likely kill to be the head coach at Alabama, and knows the Saban way. A few close to him have said he legitimately believes he's the best coach in the country. He wouldn't bat an eye at being Saban's successor.

Pretty much all of Muschamp's remaining players came over to greet him after the UF vs USC games in 2016 and 2017.

We'll definitely see the same thing on Saturday after the Bama game with their defensive players greeting Pruitt. I would imagine quite a few of our players will head over to talk to Butch, though. Some of them have known him for 5-6 years (TK Jr.. Dillon Bates, etc.)

It was said by someone close to the situation at Tennessee when Jones was here that he was seriously a bad coach when it came to X's and O's and coaching guys on the field. He knew his offensive system like the back of his hand but he had no idea how to tweak or adjust it when necessary. With this, he was a control freak when it came to his offense. This is why he brings in Debord, promotes Scott, Utah State running back coach Mike Canales to coach QB's, etc.

That said I'm no even sure Pruitt would be in their top 10. I mean guys like Dabo, Dantonio, and Fisher would surely be higher on any list they have. Pruitt's only thing right now is that he was a former player.

Let's say after Pruitt's third year, he just went 10-2, won the east, won a New Year's Six bowl game, and has a top 5 recruiting class coming in. All of which are legitimate possibilities in my eyes. I guarantee you if he wasn't at the very top of Bama's list, he's phone call number two or three.

I don't see Saban retiring anytime soon. He's got possibly his best team ever this year and no one is really even close to catching him. He'll step down as soon as he has another 2010-esque season, which might not be for a long time.
