Something has to be done about these blocks that hurt kongbos knee and then another guy did it to Taylor and Pruitt commented on it during his show. He is pretty upset with those blocks. I just think there are other ways to get the job done without taking knees and ankles out.

I hope Shamburger stays in rotation at S. loved his physicality. He challenges balls. He made key stops on backend including one that others seem to let walk in end zone but he made the tackle inside 5 to make auburn earn the TD. I want to say that was the drive we held them to a FG instead of TD.

Bama at some point will have a scare game. It always happens. Let's hope that's this saturday

#18 for Auburn had a perfect line to snag the onside kick. I have no idea what was going through his head, but at the least, he should have made contact, but kind of drew back. Wow
I thought I saw one of their guys look like the ball went right past him. We were very lucky to recover that.

Those types of blocks are usually not done that way. The Auburn guy went straight for Kongbos knee. Not a cool move by him. Most of the time the blocker aims for the ground and rolls to lessen any impact that is made. That block is only supposed to give an extra second of protection not take someone's knee out

I think CJP is still working on culture. That means we don't back down from anybody. He is going to get the team ready with the mindset that they can win and will continue to coach that way until it gets out of reach. Maybe it does not get out of reach and we compete for four quarters. I don't think we can win, but I think we fight in front of our home crowd and take another step forward.

I can definitely understand that. I just wish this team could knock of some more teams before running straight into a meat grinder.

Maybe I’m missing something - and I admitted it was an ignorant question - but I really don’t understand why we were running up the middle every first down in the second half as opposed to mixing it up and calling those runs on second down every now and then. Call something else on first down every now and then. I’m not complaining. I just don’t understand the strategy behind it.
It is just amusing that a guy watching football doesn't know why this is done...I mean this is ancient football 101 stuff.

If you throw and it is an incompletion the clock stops, so there is almost zero time used off the clock, like anywhere from 2 to 10 seconds usually, If you run and keep it in bounds, the clock continues running and you can wipe minutes off the clock.

If you wanna hear some real bitching about coaching blunders..justcwait till a coach with a slim lead calls a pass on first down and blows it, and then the other team ties or wins with seconds on the clock at the end of the game..it is horrible.

That was a real mans tackle inside the five for sure. Warrior is really hitting better too.

More than anything i think it was to try and get JG into 3rd and manageble. Maybe now they have more confidence in him and can open it up more

But why was so much time put back on the clock? That’s 15 seconds! The hit caused a fumble that they recovered in bounds. The clock should have continued to run, even after the review for targeting. However, the head official did not wind the clock after everything was set. Why? Terrible officiating!
Absolutely agree, I was livid..

Right...the penalty that was never thrown in the first place, yet they went to review as to whether they should throw a penalty or not. I know the rules, but IMO, if you don’t throw a flag in the first place, then it shouldn’t be reviewable as to whether a flag should be thrown or not. At the very least, the only thing that should happen is the player who targeted be ejected, but no other aspects of the penalty hold up (penalty yards and clock). JMO
So there was not a flag thrown? I didn't think I saw one. I thought at first they were reviewing to see if he fumbled. If they're going to start reviewing everything the refs might miss, the games will take forever.

Not only was there not a flag thrown, but the imposition of the targeting rule is inconsistent as well. Our WR got hit in the facemask by a UGA defender in that game, and they didn't care to review it. Evan Berry got smashed by A&M's 12th man last year on a kickoff return, and it was a clear hit to the head. I believe Evan fumbled and may have been knocked out.

I understand mistakes will be made, but we have replay for a reason. You have to be consistent if you use replay.

There wasn't a flag. They called down to the field to stop the game. That's the kind of thing they do when a ranked team is on the verge of a big upset. If it had been uncalled targeting on the ranked team, the game would have proceeded.
That makes me want to use language I don't use.

I think you’re missing the point of my question. I understand managing the clock, and I understand how the clock works, but we ran the ball every first down (I think) in the second half. Typically followed by some sort of short pass on second down, then faced a third and moderate or long. Thankfully, the players converted many of those.

Seems you could mix in one of the short passes on first down, followed by a run call on second down. The question makes sense in my brain - and maybe that’s my problem. I’ll drop it.

We did a play action pass on the pass to Palmer late in the game on first down...great play call. I think Helton had that one in his back pocket all day and was waiting to use it.
