The Atlanta Braves

I think Brown is right re: Riley. Not ever gonna make enough consistent contact. That would be a killer the way our lineup is currently constructed. I believe I’d test the waters on his market. I could give Johan another year at third despite his putrid NLDS.
We have to give a cheap power bat every chance in spring training. JMO, but I think a lot of people are going to be upset when we aren’t making it rain this off-season.

Still like Johan, but we just got crushed by a team with a better bench than we had starters. We need depth in a bad way.

Yeah, I don’t think we’re going to be a player in free agency but we should be able to make a couple big trades.

You right

I suppose a player that brings an average of .227 and gives you 8 bomb power a year just isn’t depth for you. That production doesn’t just sit in free agency for half of what we’re paying him, every single year. We don’t appreciate all the good things we have.

Suzuki can hit and Flowers is okay, but can we get a real catcher? One that can hit and also knows Catching 101 says put your body in front of the ball instead of lazily reaching for it with your glove while it careens past you and into the rear wall. How may second bases did we give up on that deal? And while I'm on Catching 101, how about placing the throw to second base on a steal somewhere where the infielder has a chance to tag the runner, instead of having to swipe 120 degrees with the ball after catching it?

This is just an embarrassment of riches.

HOT TAKE:

1/4 of those names will be gone by p&c reporting date
I haven’t seen projections about exact numbers (no real way to guess all that accurately right now anyway) but, just conceptually, is that all that hot of a take? For the last few years we knew we’d end up in a situation with more potentially good arms than spots for them, moving a good chunk of them had to always be in the cards.

I’d have Wright over Gohara right now and a healthy Soroka over Newk, Fried, and Gausman. AA gonna have a lot of decisions to make. If Gohara/Soroka are healthy next year and we keep Teheran I want Fried in the pen.

Teheran will be gone. That message was sent to him. It doesn’t make sense to keep him at his money and now it seems Snitker is down on him as well.

Keith Law (I think it was him anyway) made that comment near the deadline that AA wants rid of Gohara so I think he’s definitely gone.

Allard is not good but he’s young so some team will talk themselves into him.

That’s a lot of good arms to move. Almost went with a 1/3.

I want Fried in the rotation. His stuff is too good

I've seen enough of Folty and Newcomb now to see that they will be pretty good pitchers but not bonafide aces that you can build an entire staff around. They look like nice complimentary pieces to me, not 2 guys you send out in Game 1 and Game 2 of a big playoff series to shut a powerful lineup down. Folty got better this year but he's still throwing, not pitching, and he doesn't have much movement on his fastball. Newcomb's curveball is still wildly inconsistent and just generally walks too many guys.

Overall, the position players appear to be better and better more quickly than we thought they would be. Pitching, not so much.

Folty and Newk still have a lot of room to grow. Both can be 2’s and maybe if the light fully comes on 1’s.

Can’t discount what Folty did this year. Helluva season. 2.85 and 200 punch outs is no joke.

Folty will be 27 next year. Like you said, plenty of room to grow.

Newk scares me because he’s perfect trade bait but the probability is he won’t overcome his walk issues (and I’m not sure his off speed is that great). However he has so much talent and has such a great profile it is really difficult to give him up.

Lmao Julio is 27 and he’s cooked
Folty is 27 and he’s got unlimited potential

Whatever fits the narrative

Julio also has over double the amount of MLB innings.

Now I’m not necessarily giving up on Julio. He had a really good second half. But with the amount of arm talent he makes the most logical choice to trade especially if someone takes his contract.

Newk has most trade value because he’s left handed, he is freaking huge (more likely to be durable), and I believe he has more service time remaining

I would be more than happy to go into next season with Folty, Newk, Touki, Gaus and Julio with Wright in wings and Fried in high leverage bullpen role

I would not hesitate to trade any one of them though for the right price
