I said at best. I think the national perception of the Tennessee program is similar to that of Vanderbilt and Kentucky. Why? Because that's the level we've been on for over a decade. Our biggest rival is Vanderbilt, competitively speaking.

Just not true. Kentucky has beat us twice in about 34 years. Vandy has fared better against us, but that’s just not true.

Unless there are only two tiers, neither UK or Vandy are there.

I’m real, you’re being a try hard.
We're on whatever tier they're on, is my point. I said at best, people view Tennessee as a second tier program. And I don't think that's case in reality. Nothing but blatant disrespect nationally for Tennessee. Similar to that of a Kentucky or Vanderbilt.

Definitely is with Vanderbilt. They've had the upper hand on Tennessee for going on seven years. We'll likely lose to Kentucky for the second year in a row.

It doesn't help that the media continues to bring up "shocking" facts about how bad Tennessee is on every broadcast now. Like bringing up our long losing streaks vs various SEC programs and the fact that we have an active losing streak vs all of them right now. Or how we're 1-27 vs ranked teams on the road or whatever.

Realistically, Tennessee is viewed nationally at the SCjr tier

Middle of the conference, mid tier bowl game the last decade or so

It’s actually a pretty fair assessment. I think that is what we are in the modern era. At some point the struggles of the last 15 or so years are our identity as much as the great 6 or 7 year run we had in the 90s/ early 2000s.

The younger generation of fans definitely views us on that level. Older fans of other programs who know our history just really enjoy seeing us struggle for as long as we have. It's kinda bizarre how hated we are given how non-threatening we've been since 2008. I've met people who just vehemently hate the Vols but don't really have animosity against other teams. And many of those people are Tennesseans.

Because we truly were Bama level dominant for about 7-8 years there. It just wasn’t as easy to get a championship back then because you couldn’t lose your division and still win the national championship. Nick Saban has done that twice. Know a family from Louisiana that still dislikes the Vols mainly because of how good we were in the 90’s.

I don't think we were ever Bama level dominant. More like Clemson IMO.

Florida prevented that from happening. Vols and Braves were similar in the 90s. All the potential and talent in the world and only one championship.

Also the championship format of the day. Nick Saban would look a lot less impressive if you discounted the two times he has lost his own division but still sent to the national title game IMO.
