He wanted the Michigan job badly after his first year here when they hired Harbaugh. I think he may have been on their list had Harbaugh turned them down.

I think North Carolina approached him at one point as well - maybe after 2014?
UNC job might be open for him after this year

Didn't hear what Ainge said today, but he (and other former players) think some of Butch's players aren't going to get past the negativity. Some will graduate this year, but there are some who won't. It would be better for them, the program and team chemistry if they would transfer after the season.
the part of the show i listened to, i didn't hear him get in to this specifically. and on the one hand, i agree with this premise.

on the other, i think there are a few that do get it, and could develop in to something. Sapp is one. i still have hope for Warrior, Taylor, Bituli etc.... the Sr's that have had the most exposure, are gonna be gone.

the ones i would worry about are guys like Drew Richmond....not sure he ever gets it.

Butch should have been fired in the aftermath of the Title IX investigation. UT settled that suit because discovery would have been more detrimental than paying $2.48 million to plaintiffs who didn't have a strong legal case.

Auburn defense is filthy this year. Lead the nation in points allowed per drive (Bama is #2) and have given up the fewest TDs in FBS (5).

Tall task for a struggling offense weak up front.
Auburn 23 - Southern Miss 13

Don't get me wrong...I'm not getting my hopes up for a win (10 years of crushing defeats will do that to a man, you know). And, we can debate if Tennessee would win a game versus Southern Miss, but Auburn can be beaten by an inferior opponent. Our weakness does line up perfectly with their strength, though.

It was my understanding he tried to get out after the '16 season. If that was true, they should have helped him out the door then. If someone's heart isn't in it, they're not going to do a good job.
I heard from someone who I would expect to know these things say he had a plan to leave and a possible job lined up but the loss to Vandy squashed any new gig deal and essentially he became stuck. He couldn't leave (no viable offers) and we didn't fire him.

Yeah that’s my issue. Their strength is our weakness unfortunately.

If we don’t turn the ball over I think our defense will be fine. I’ll be interested to see the O/U on our game.

I could see a 20-10 type game

A lot of them have come around. It's the handfuls who haven't that might find it mutually advantageous to start fresh elsewhere.

Yep - they paid $2.5M because 1) they knew Butch would have to testify and he risked perjuring himself if asked about the Drae Bowles thing and 2) they didn’t want to fire who they thought was a sure fire successful coach.

Priorities were backwards and it cost both Hart and Cheek their jobs.

By the time he wanted out, he wasn't willing to settle for what he could get. He has an inflated opinion of himself. IDT being Intern Butch has deflated him much at all.

His offenses are actually typically towards the top of the rankings in terms of TOP, atleast the past 3 seasons. Would be higher than just about all SEC teams(including Bama) except about 1 or 2. His defenses are also on the field less than Bama
Welp...that's counter intuitive as all heck.

Discovery casts a wide net. Plaintiff's counsel would have asked about a lot more than that and deposed a lot of people who didn't want to be deposed.

If you ever come across that Bozo, tell him I said he sucks balls. If he thinks he'll be able to land a big job again he's an even bigger buffoon than I thought.

Oh no doubt. He’s still got the ego. He’s telling everyone who will listen at Catholic that Tennessee should win a minimum 8 games this year. I’ve heard that exact thing from two separate people.

He’s also a big source for Austin Price and the VQ staff.

Well, that makes me feel better about unsubscribing from that podcast and deleting that bookmark.

To be fair, I don’t know how seriously they take him with some of the stuff.

But he’s in their ear a ton about the Mays brothers and perceived talent on the UT roster.

I would also guess he’s someone they talk to about players both UT and Alabama are recruiting.

We have a couple moles around here feeding VQ.
