Fumble Recovery Disparity

Team Speed, Strength at bottom of piles, Fumble drills.

I am not saying we are going to recover everyone we lose or force. But a 40% differential through 5 games is stark enough to warrant more discussion
There are several more important things this team needs to be working on than recovering fumbles at a higher rate. Twist numbers into a new problem to whine about if you want, but it hardly seems to be what is costing us games. And for the record, UGa got very lucky recovering those loose balls today. When you're hot you're hot. When you're not you're not

Not saying we don't have bigger issues, just saying this is an issue. And for sure GA got lucky but this is becoming a pattern which is the concern I am pointing out. Luck is definitely a factor, Idk why people assume I don't think that. Just saying that luck isn't the only issue.

The unpredictable oblong ball.

That first Fromm fumble literally bounced into Nauta's arms. He didn't even have to bend down for it.
And Fromm appeared totally dumbfounded watching as Nauta raced into the end zone. It was one freak of a play.

First off, I was impressed by our ability to compete for 3 quarters today. Even 4 possession losses don't feel bad this year.

One of the things infuriating me though is the fumbles this team loses and our inability to recover when we force one.

Through 5 games Tennessee has forced 8 fumbles and recovered 3 (37.5%)

Opponents have forced 9 and recovered 7 (77.7%)

I know we have talent differential issues but that can't be the only reason to account for such a difference. Anyone got ideas on who specifically is to blame?
Baby steps, at least we are forcing some fumbles , now step 2 jump on the ball!

No situational awareness.

It seemed like it takes our team just a split second longer to react.

Honestly, I feel like this team isn't used to actually making plays. So when they do they have to think about what to do next.

Uhh. the football is not bouncing our way? That first one was like a hand off to the tight end
..."Look what I found!" We are not getting any breaks, but hopefully when we need one most, it will bounce our way!

We've needed it the most many, if not all, of the times silly.

The intellectual side of me believes that it's just an unfortunate run of luck.

The battered Vol side believes we may need to offer some kind of sacrifice to appease the football gods. The past two weeks have been absolutely insane with the freakish bad breaks.

The ball does not bounce our way.....Yet.
Got a few of these left...

Soon!

Its like we are snake bit... stop a drive, create a fumble and still have to line up to defend an extra point... when the worm turns, it will be vengeful.

We don't need to change the OC. We went through 3 OCs during Butch's 5 seasons. These players need continuity for development. Once we have 11 guys on the offense that can all execute their assignments, and we are still are lethargic on offense, then would be the time for Pruitt to think about it. But 5 games into this staff's first season with this team, that we knew required a massive rebuild, is not the time to be talking about replacing coordinators, IMO.
Still got to try. We aint got nothing to lose at this point

Coach Pruittt in post game what I noticed when it was happening during the game....we do not have enough players near the ball. The only one getting constant pressure the entire game was Darrell Taylor. Few other Volunteer players were near hence when Georgia fumbled they always got it back.

When it goes into their players arms like they are an electromagnet it doesn't matter how many players are around it!

Offensive play calling looks bad when our o line can't even block high schoolers
I think they played well against the #2 team in the country. I think maybe they weren't expected to though, so the play calling only matched their expected performance.

I'm an "experienced" UT fan. I don't expect the breaks to go our way, but sorta like in 1998 when we got breaks when we needed them most. I figure we had earned them over the last 10 years before that!

We need a new Offensive line and a lot better idea of what were trying to accomplish on offense.

Agreed but there should've been at least one player close enough to tackle him other than Kirkland. Without watching the replay I'm guessing we had to be in man to man for the DBs to be cleared out.

We've seen two of the flukier plays that I can recall the past two weeks.

I'm willing to chalk it up to luck at this point.

The bigger issue than the actual recoveries are getting the turnover ratio weighted much much heavier in our favor. This team isn't going to pull any upsets without winning the turnover battle. JMO.

Over time every team recovers ~50% of fumbles. Tennessee is 3/8. That’s just one shy of historical norms.

So what about the first 4 games of the season though? And as it turns out Florida is truly a threat in the east imagine that. And f Florida I hate them but possibly they truly aren't as bad as us vol fans thought they were
