First off, I was impressed by our ability to compete for 3 quarters today. Even 4 possession losses don't feel bad this year.

One of the things infuriating me though is the fumbles this team loses and our inability to recover when we force one.

Through 5 games Tennessee has forced 8 fumbles and recovered 3 (37.5%)

Opponents have forced 9 and recovered 7 (77.7%)

I know we have talent differential issues but that can't be the only reason to account for such a difference. Anyone got ideas on who specifically is to blame?

Our defense was the only saving grace today. Think we need a new OC.

We don't need to change the OC. We went through 3 OCs during Butch's 5 seasons. These players need continuity for development. Once we have 11 guys on the offense that can all execute their assignments, and we are still are lethargic on offense, then would be the time for Pruitt to think about it. But 5 games into this staff's first season with this team, that we knew required a massive rebuild, is not the time to be talking about replacing coordinators, IMO.

Just flat out bad luck. It's insane for a team to fumble 4 times and mishandle a snap yet get away with it every time and even score on one of them.

They didn’t get enough players around the ball. Anyone think Bama, Georgia or even Florida gets TWO strip sacks and gives up 10 pts? No cause multiple players are around the ball. Vols have CUSA players playing SEC football

I can agree with you here. I think Pruitt needs to have a heart to heart with Helton this bye week and stress the importance of improvement for the rest of the season.

Considering their OL averaged 327lbs each, I'm just glad we had at least one person defender the ball most times.

The thing is it's not a offensive or defensive issue, it's both. We aren't recovering on either side of the ball. I would say the fumble touchdown is luck, but some element of coaching has to be involved when it's this bad. I just don't know who exactly to blame.

That's your problem. Put down your torch and pitchfork. Stop looking for a scapegoat in every instance of bad luck in football or life. It's what allows really dumb sh!t to happen.

Uhh. the football is not bouncing our way? That first one was like a hand off to the tight end
..."Look what I found!" We are not getting any breaks, but hopefully when we need one most, it will bounce our way!

Talking to the wrong person, bud. I have been a big defender of "this is going to take time." I am just saying let's not say everything is luck related.

Let's identify the problem and fix it. Got a problem with that? You are welcome to leave.

Totally maddening! If those go our way, it’s a different game. We get no breaks. Defense played hard but got left on the field too long.

It is crazy bad bounces no eye discipline may also contribute . Maybe they are just never expecting the ball to pop out . o_O

I hate to bad mouth the OC but I cannot disagree. The ball not bouncing our way is baffling.
Back eons ago I played in high school and recovered four fumbles my senior year. It was really all luck - - the ball was just there. All of them could have gone another way and I would have never got them.

They will bounce our way if we keep competing.

The unpredictable oblong ball.

That first Fromm fumble literally bounced into Nauta's arms. He didn't even have to bend down for it.

I stand by my earlier statement. Predicting the way a football will bounce in the heat of the play is absurd. Recovering loose footballs is a matter of right place, right time. One can run drills in practice for falling or diving on them correctly but other than that it's luck. You are welcome to try and convince me otherwise friendo.

Team Speed, Strength at bottom of piles, Fumble drills.

I am not saying we are going to recover everyone we lose or force. But a 40% differential through 5 games is stark enough to warrant more discussion
