It was McBride before him. JG has the job another year, IMO. And that will give Maurer a year to learn and eventually compete with Shrout.

We love to latch onto that one article on Shrout. If he was such a sure-fire recruit, why did nobody else want him? Maybe they were scared off by his injury, sure, but he didn't look great in his senior year, IIRC.
shrout wasn't a sure fire recruit. that's the point. he didn't play his jr. year, played his sr, and then camped like crazy, and impressed some folks in those camps.

he's a high celing kid. that's about it for now. JG has 2 years left after this year. he's the only real veteran we have, and will have next year since Chryst is gone. no idea if mcbride stays or goes, but you're looking at next year's QB room to be JG, Shrout and Maurer. no idea if they RS Maurer, but i suspect they will so long as the 4 game rule is in place. i dont' know we take another QB unless it's a difference maker like Taulia. and i'm not convinced we go the transfer route either.

the qb competition should be legit the next couple years. and i look for us to really go after that blue chip QB in the 20 class.

I’ll disagree on McBride. I’ve never heard anyone legitimately say he was in the future plans.

Anyway, I don’t think Shrout is a sure thing by any stretch. But like I said, Helton hand picked him for his system. He’s going to get an opportunity - I would almost guarantee it.

There’s something to what @HankHill is insinuating about JG. There’s something missing there. I don’t know what it is. But I do know his teammates don’t really respect him.

it's not a big deal and wouldn't be if you didn't present it as if it were some infallible position. you present it as if that since you're willing to challenge what hte coaches have decided to do (after seeing all these guys week in and week out for 10 months) that you must be right.

and any time somoene offers a logical retort, you fall back on the old "so the coaches never make mistakes?" and as you so eloquently stated to butchna, he must be a sheep because he didn't agree with you.

like the only thing that matters is that you apparently are the only one willing to step out ont he ledge and say "the coaches might/are/could be wrong", that should earn you some points or something.

you're opinion is no more right than anyone's. and yeah, i think it's perfectly sane to say the coaches probably do know a little bit more about the personnel on that roster than you, me or butchna.

and at the end of the day, pruitt has always said from day one that practice will determine who plays. and he's been sticking to his guns on that. can't fault him for that.

i think everyone has players they've thought highly of and have wondered why they don't see the field more. for me, it was Shamburger, i thought he would be sure to see significant playing time, especially over Micha. it hasn't happened that way.

so, what does that mean? probably that micah has been doing the things required of him in practice and Sham hasn't.

this season is a wash at this point. you can't, now, go back on what you've been telling these kids all off season about practice/playing time because you're now desperate to win a game. and i don't think they are to be honest. this is about establishing your culture and how things are going to be done, ground up. you start deviating from it now, you lose credibility and you lose the players that will be coming back next year.

no one likes the results. but what a lot of y'all are talking about right now is really a short game, with no real benefit down the road. this staff is apparently playing the long game....to me, it's pretty obvious now that's what they're doing.

I called butchna a sheep because when i questioned Some of the reps And places Pruitt is putting people, he hits me with the “he’s a better coach than you”. Implying that he is the SEC head coach and I’m just a guy so who am i to question?.... which is exactly what this board is for. To give opinions and talk about TN football. So yes forgive me it’s wrong of me to question a couple decision of a coach that has gotten ran out of the gym, in the only two real games he has coached in.

Like i said before the only time a stir occurs is when i questioned if JG is doing anything to help our OL and himself from getting 15 chin shots a game.

No one cared when i questioned other players. Or called Kongbo the best magician we’ve ever had here. Bc it’s not personal with them. It’s personal for people with JG.

24 hours of food poisoning for your Thai boy. Been mindlessly scrolling for two hours because I’m too lazy to go for medicine downstairs or take a shower 😒

It is the position rather than the person (imo). QB has a greater impact on a game/season than an outside DE (even if the DE is Derek Barnett). Agree with your assessment on Kongbo, another in the line of DE's that look good but play doesn't match their physical attributes

On JGs strip sack early in the game... the WR in the flat who is the primary option in this clear out pattern is open and the ball should’ve been out long before the hit occured. This is one of the examples that i said where he could do a better job anticipating and getting the ball out early and it would help our OL.
The best QBs that have ever played screw up just like this sometimes. Just keep acting like JG is the problem though. He has played a lot better than you thought, and I have never said he was a great QB, but he does have more talent, and a lot more potential to grow into a even better QB than that bench warmer you love so much.

It’s my opinion. Not sure why it’s such a big deal. That’s what this board is for. I give a take about Tim Jordan or Abernathy no body cares. But i say anytbjng negative about JG and people lose their minds lol.
That's because JG is actually playing well, and those other two you mentioned are all around horrible..big difference.

Never once said JG was THE problem. Even said after the first two games he played better than i thought. Simply pointed out things he could do better. Even gave you a visual example when you said check the tape.

eh, i've never really cared about JG or Chryst, personally. i just wanted the guy that would help us win. i'm not upset with how JG has played, i htink he's definitley gotten better since last year.

the problem is, it's no where near enough improvement ot make up for all the other issues.

to me, it doesn't matter what player/position is being talkeda about. i don't get all the hand wringing, period, about it.

pruitt has said what will dictate who plays. and so far, it seems as though he's doing exactly that.

hard to argue with a guy that says "i'm going to do it this way", and then, actually does it....especially when it might be easier to steer away from that at times and play someone that you think might be better in the game, but hasn't done what you've asked him to do in practice. that's hard. and displeasing to those that will measure your sucess by what scoreboards say. so i get that angle too. is he a good coach following his process or is he just stubborn? we won't know that answer for a couple years unfortunately.

if nothing else, he's sending consistent messages, and he's backing it up with action. that will pay dividends later....hopefully.

for now, it is what it is.

(if my ploy to change the subject works, y'all owe me big time!)

So, I signed up for YouTube TV earlier this week and canceled my DirecTV service. So far, so good. We've added our favorite shows to our library and that's going well. I like being able to record shows, pause live TV, etc. So far we've got it working on three of our TVs...all of which had the ability to add the app to the TV itself, rather than using a Roku or similar device. But, the remotes are a little difficult to use with it because their design wasn't optimized to operate this particular app. I would assume that the remotes that come with Roku, Chromecast, etc. are equally deficient, but can anyone confirm?

Also, using cable or DirecTV I'd always add a couple hours to recordings of sports broadcasts so that I didn't miss the end, but I haven't seen a way to do this with YTTV...has anyone figured this out? My plan to "rig" this up will be to simply record the program (or two) that is scheduled to come on after the event I'm recording.

7-18 164 yds 0TD 2INT
4 rushes for -5 yards

Is well?
There's two things that made JG look bad. The OL and the offensive playcalling. FL was stacking 8 in the box and blitzing almost every down. Helton did a horrible job adjusting to it. He just kept calling runs up the middle. Where's the screens, quick slants, etc?

They do. He needs to help himself too by not being such a statue in the pocket, better anticipation, and not underthrowing WRs when they have a step on deep throws.
Not sure how often he has a chance to be a statue lol. Agree on the rest though. He’s still a young QB so hopefully he will get better at all that with time...and not get killed in the process by our oline

That's what I was wondering, when does he ever even have time to set himself. Literally a breakdown on every play.

How has Shrout looked so far? You think he's a game manager type who won't get you beat, or is he a legit impact player?

Chuckie, been with YouTubeTV for over a month. It's great, no complaints. College football buffet on Saturdays. Typically at least 10-12 games on all through the day at the same time. Last week I counted 37 CFB games on starting from Noon all the way up until 1030pm. What really helps is all the Fox regional sports channels you get.

Only downfall for my wife is no HGTV. That's her go to channel.

Anyone looking for a huge savings and no real drawbacks I recommend it.

5 logins for $38 per month no contracts. No catch etc..

A lot of poseters point to the fact that if a player is starting then he is definitely our best option at a spot and it shouldn’t be questioned.

People questioned why jumper was playing for years but now Pruitt is in town and it’s like how dare I question the players he’s giving reps to.
Of course, we are entitled to question coaching decisions. But, you have to also understand that many people believe that the coach knows best and will question you when you question those decisions. I don't get why people who question a coach's decision complain about people calling them out when they do.
