Fulmer was more optimistic? Says who?

He made some comments right before the season that had a more positive vibe. Something along the lines of this team has some good players and can win some games. I don’t recall exact quotes. Basically it wasn’t a championship team but could be better than people think.

Edit: quotes above.

While I agree with you, I will say what worries me is that some of the players will start thinking, "Oh no, here we go again."

I do think that a lot of people, myself included were way too high in our expectations for a team that went winless in the sec last year and had a coaching change.

I wouldn't say this is a referendum on CJP by any means, but for some people to have a legitimate concern that some of these players may throw in the towel is valid.

Not gonna try getting into the mindset of the players. I know I just said the players quit after FL last year, but that was obvious based on the results on the field. I'm not going to assume as much when there's still 2/3 of the season left in front of us.

True, me too. Those W/L expectations are out the window for most if not all of us, but for half of us, hope is out the window too. And half of that half is projecting that hopelessness onto the players, which I don't think is fair or right.

I'm surprised we didn't have many transfers (Picou, .. another one or two small roles?) over the off-season. That signifies to me that the team knew what they were in for and made the commitment to stick it out. I'm not going to look at a loss that snowballed off of six turnovers right before the toughest 3-4 game stretch of opponents in the entire country and preempt my view of the team quitting simply to justify my own tuning out for this year.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I hate to keep comparing 2018 to 2013, but we have seen a Tennessee team go from taking the worst away loss ever (at Oregon), to losing big and ugly at Florida, to barely beating South Alabama, to taking a 6th ranked UGA team to 2OT, to upsetting a top-10 Carolina in that many weeks. Things don't always have a downward trajectory. Not trying to pump sunshine onto everyone's piss-parade, just saying it's easy for things to look really ugly before they get better.

What are the best games this weekend?

Kentucky/Carolina would be an interesting watch. Does Carolina lose their fifth straight to Kentucky? Does Kentucky continue their climb?

Texas Tech/WVU for the offense

Watch Texas fold at Kansas State because they're still not back

Pillow fights between Purdue/Nebraska and FSU/Louisville

Florida/Mississippi State

VT/Duke maybe?

Penn State/Ohio State in the battle of pretentious disgrace

Stanford/ND because the rankings tell us so

Watch BYU upset Washington now

I don't know if there are any really blockbuster can't-miss games, but there are definitely more than enough to stay glued to the recliner.

Watched "Peyton's Comeback" again recently. We had a great OL back then but Auburn's pass rush was unbelievable. I was shocked at how many times they were in our back field in 2 seconds or less. It was eerily similar to how quickly regular defenses are in our back field now.
But man, watching Peyton scan through his options and find the best one, in that amount of time? Just a thing of beauty.

With our current struggles, I would trade a little of JG's arm strength for a little more ability in making his reads. Unfortunately, that's not a real option.

But despite all of this, I think if Chryst was any better, he would be playing.

The throws I've seen Chryst make - admittedly not a large sample size - have been on the money for the most part. He also went through progressions, anticipated the receiver breaking out of the route, and didn't hold the ball too long (maybe because he knows his limitations when it comes to the long ball). Chryst is a dunk and dink QB, just the kind we need for running screens, slants, and crossing routes with a bad OL.

As far as running, scrambling Chryst is just as good, or better than JG - who isn't a true dual threat. In fact, JG is sloooow! Chryst also has pocket presence, moves up in the pocket to avoid hits and I presume he is aware of pressure and knows when to bail for the sidelines - without superman diving out of bounds. (Still LOL just thinking about that moment.) Chryst is poised and mature in the pocket, has shown me a commanding and team management disposition. JG has displayed none of those qualities.

Not a one sided argument at all. But, I am advocating for Chryst over JG. I stand by my premise that Chryst is on the outside looking in, which is not winning him favor and attitude with his offensive teammates.
You got all of that from the 13 passes that he has attempted. Impressive.

We literally do not know what Jeremy Pruitt is or isn’t up to this point. Anything is possible.

When I was in boot camp for the Navy many decades ago our company commander got so pissed at us after about 2 weeks in he had us standing at attention in front of our lockers while he went on this incredible rant about how much we sucked. After a lengthy dressing down he yanked off his braided lanyard which signified him as a company commander, threw it across the barracks, and announced with emphasis that he was quitting then stormed out.

I was 19 years old and given what I had seen when we first arrived I thought he was probably right. We had 76 guys from all over the country and the first time we got together it was a sight you never forget. We had what I presumed were hippies and everything else you can imagine. I thought it was a bit of a freak show. Right away we had our heads shaved and were issued uniforms. At that point, surprising to me, we didn’t look bad. Actually we all looked pretty much the same.

We actually ended up as a pretty good company and our company commander didn’t quit. We lost I think 3 guys from the original group but everyone else made it through. What I learned afterwards is that with boot camp the company commanders are trained to “break everyone down” at the beginning and then spend the rest of the training period building those who survive into a viable unit.

Obviously civilian life is not much like the structure of the military but I think most SEC football teams nowadays are a lot closer to being like the military than most other areas of civilian life. I think Pruitt is probably old school and he was hired by an old school coach. We actually have a fair amount of youth on our football team. The ones that survive this year may turn out to be pretty decent. Jmo.

I always appreciate your posts and appreciate your service.

I think your larger sentiment is right. That Pruitt is likely a good football coach and that the players who buy in, on the whole, will be better off for it.

But to me, that can also be simultaneously true while it also being true that the team - at large - could begin to tune him out and go into turtle mode. We don’t know what will or won’t happen.

Will they “quit” on him, or were they never really bought-in in the first place, or will they rally and start to compete instead of wither? It’s all on the table.

The turtles will be the ones on the sidelines that everyone is asking why they aren't playing.

I have to say that I am really impressed with Coach Pruitt. He stated that he didn’t do enough to prepare his players for the game.
None of the throwing the players under the bus in any way, shape, or form. That’s my kind of coach right there. Take total responsibility. That’s what the Head Coach should do. It’s unfortunate that is not the norm anymore. I understand now why he is held in such high esteem by his former players. I hope his goal of returning Tennessee to where it’s supposed to be is attainable by him.

Maybe after he completes his career at Tennessee; he should be a President... 🤔

So to all of those of you who have been following my story and those who have helped out, I have a new update. A couple of weeks ago I filed a petition to relocate and move back to Tennessee. If its approved, ill be in Gallatin next summer (lawyer and mediator think it will be). But the newest update has me pissed. When my ex's boyfriend beat my son, he was sentenced to 2 years probation and if he violated he was supposed to get 2 years in prison. Well when he was arrested for smoking meth a couple of weeks ago, he violated. Yesterday he was sentenced and went to jail.... For 40 days... And when he gets out he is completely off probation even though he had a year and a half left. I'm pissed. And then also today someone disputed a 100 dollar donation they donated to my gofundme.... So now 100 will come out of my account, even though I dont have that much in there, because I'm so far behind I havent paid my electric that was due close to a month ago because of my lawyer fees... Even though I'm still a grand behind on that payment. Man, I'm ready to move to where I have support. Sorry to rant, just dont have many people to talk to

What is the roster talent comparisons between TN and KY right now? Are they doing so well because of coaching stability? Crazy the difference in on-field play.

No simple reasoning or answers to our problems is what complicates things.

OL is a disaster because Butch made these kids hate life or nearly killed them all. Who has 3 players in Hall, Calbert, and Neuhaus that want to give up football until new staff came along? Butchered jack jones/boulware situation that eventually led to career ending injury for jack and boulware leaving(pretty sure we could use a OG right now). I mean wtf was he doing to these kids? OL can't be fixed overnight.

JG has ton of potential but a lot of flaws still. He just doesn't give me that IT factor feel to him. He doesn't make people around him better. He just looks like a lone wolf that is very talented. Great arm but doesn't see the field well or quickly I should say. He is slow in his drop. Everything about him just screams "thinks too much" in his movements. Just gives me a fake confidence feeling. Tough talented kid just not a carry the team guy.

That's frustrating for me watching let alone having to coach it

Then next yr we lose our top 4 DL.....not good

The stability they've had has led to growth and maturation on the field. We have a little more talent but with bad coaching and no winning mentality. They're a very confident team and we have a lot of losers at the moment.

Vince F said today on sports talk in an interview with Gary Danielson that using the highest rating coming out 20 of our 22 starters were 4 and 5 stars. Using average rating it’s still 18 starters who were 4 or 5 stars. You can’t miss with that many players. I know there has to be player development issues affecting most of the players. Must be too much for this staff to overcome when players have been taught wrong for so long.

When you have players and depth that fit a system, it makes up for lessse talent in a lot of cases. It’s why Boise was deadly with Chris Peterson and Washington is again.

Hey POA,
I am embarrassed to say that was me. When my AmEx bill came in, it didn’t say gofundme, it said “child support “ in California. Confused the hades out of me so I thought that it was a fraudulent card.
Man, I am so sorry.
Contact me through my email at jkay@arlingtonortho.com and I will make it right. I have had a rough couple weeks and I thought 2+2= dinosaur when I saw that AmEx statement. Just didn’t click at all.

I did the comparison a couple of days ago on the OL and front seven. They have one 4 star on the OL and one 4 star in the front seven. Josh Allen is a projected first round draft pick at LB/DE, and he was a 2 star on 247 composite and 3 star on Rivals. I didn’t see the MSU game, but apparently he was awesome. I believe UK does have some talent in the secondary.

UK’s 2016 class consisted of fourteen 3 stars and six 2 stars- 20 of their 25.

Sorry but that's a lazy response...their players/depth/ and system is not anything too different than ours... They are not running some specialized offense and defense (like a triple option or something) that lesser talent can get that type of results.
