I’ve been thinking back to ‘13. I recall getting slap embarrassed in Oregon. That was a far better team than Florida, and we expected a rout. It was so bad though that I remember wondering if Butch could ever right the ship.

Well, the team rebounded and beat a very good SC team. I cried in the stands as I watched our players have something to celebrate because THEY deserved it. We all had hope after that.

All I’m looking for right now is something to give the team and the fans that same hope. We don’t know the future, but hope can go a long way. Play tough, rebound from mistakes, win a game you shouldn’t, be competitive, sign a good class, etc.

Anything for hope for these players who deserve it as much or more that that ‘13 team did.
You cried in the stands? Come on

The defense has been what I have expected maybe even a little better, I see improvement but with some freshman mistakes, lack of depth, and upperclassman who aren't very good or haven't been developed. But I see definitely possibilities with the defense. Special teams have been a disappointment, 1st onside kick last week, drops, fumbles, etc.. Offense has been a huge disappointment even knowing we would have o-line issue, the offense has been bad. JG looks good, but we aren't putting him in good spots with terrible play calling on 1st, 2nd down or rolling him out to avoid the rush. And having him run some with that o-line isn't very smart. OL, TE, RB's missing assignments and WR's not catching catchable balls. I'm hoping for some improvement as the season goes on, and really hoping we can go injury free. Just managing my expectations.

I would disagree on special teams. We have blocked 2 punts, Cimaglia has been solid, Brooks is booming kickoffs, and Doyle has been solid. We are a return threat from being complete there. I wish Thompson was healthy so we could see him there.

I was in the stands for the Georgia game in 2013, and if we would have pulled that one off, I think I would have, too. The emotions were palpable in the stadium that day. Not only do I know that I would’ve seen many people shed a few tears, but I am almost certain the fans would have rushed the field.

Since it's slow in here, I have to vent.

I buy a lot of stuff from Home Depot. Went there today to pick up some insulation, a whole pickup load of the stuff. Parked went in side and made the purchase then exited. Most of y'all that are here in east Tennessee knows it's rained all day, pretty much a steady rain. Well, a bunch of yahoos decided that the loading area is their own personal parking spot. Cars/trucks just sitting there blocking the loading area. I guess they thought they were special and didn't want to get their hairdo a little damp. So I had to wheel the stuff over to the truck in the rain and load up. Piece of craps that think they're better than anybody else.

Thanks! I needed that.

And I bet they had Florida stickers on they bumpers, or Bama ones.

So what was the story behind Thompson playing very little vs Florida?

*** Notable snaps: Florida ran 53 plays Saturday and Buchanan and Warrior were the only two guys to never leave the field. Abernathy played 51 snaps and Taylor, who was had the big forced fumble, played 46 snaps but was not targeted. Thompson, dealing with a hip injury, played just 10 snaps.

Here is where VQ mentioned it Monday.

> Could a lineup change be coming to Tennessee's offensive line? It certainly looked so on Wednesday. Redshirt freshman K'Rojhn Calbert saw multiple reps at left guard alongside starting left tackle Trey Smith.
The 6-foot-5, 327-pound Calbert saw action off the bench against East Tennessee State and played in Tennessee's goal-line package against Florida, when the Vols lined him and Smith — that's 647 pounds of beef if you are counting at home — as lead-blocking fullbacks right behind the right guard with Marcus Tatum taking Smith's spot at left tackle. Calbert missed all of last season after undergoing knee surgery in August to clean up some lingering issues with his knee that he brought to Tennessee.

> It's also worth noting the only other player who appeared to get work at left guard on Wednesday was Riley Locklearalongside Nathan Niehaus. Jahmir Johnson, Tennessee's starting left guard in all four games this season, was present but only appeared to watching drills with his helmet half off. Locklear came off the bench and played more snaps than Johnson did against Florida.

The rest of the offensive line was as is during drills on Wednesday.

One additional note: Tennessee was experimenting some along the OL today. Not sure what's up (we'll ask Pruitt post-practice) but Jahmir Johnson wasn't doing much at practice, with K'Rojhn Calbert getting lots of work at LG.

What so instead of L>R:

Smith-Jahmir-Ryan-Carvin-Richmond

we may see

Niehaus-Calbert-Ryan-Smith-Richmond?

I'll continually worry about LT probably until Wanya's and Darnell's sophomore years, but if more athleticism and quickness is required at tackle than guard, hopefully Niehaus can provide those attributes. I'm all for some beef at guard, tired of seeing us get blown tf up by DT's right off the snap.

Sounds more like Trey/Calbert at LT/LG

Didn't @Big Gucci Sosa post something earlier (yesterday?) about Trey being much better against the run than the pass this year? I say if that's the case might as well go all in with him at one of the guard spots.
Yea, he had a higher grade vs the run than the pass. Iirc he was our highest graded Oline for run blocking, but I could be wrong on the last part.
