I have no clue. Sounds like a rumor to me. I will say this though. Just looking at the way our offensive has looked through 4 games it looks more like a Colorado State Will Friend offense then a USC Tyson Helton offense. I think the offense has looked that way for every game though. Not just after the 3rd quarter against Florida.

What doesn't pass the smell test though is why would Fulmer/Pruitt bring in Helton for $1.2 million just to have the offensive line coach structure the offense the way he wants. That doesn't make sense to me...... I'll hang up and listen.

Don't use logic on a Basilio rumor. I've never listened to or read Basilio, but he gets posted here quite often. It sounds to me like he just throws anything he hears on the street to drive clicks and tune-ins.

I don't know how he gets any traction other than people are crazy for information--any information--in this age of tight-lipped coaching staffs.

Here are the words directly from Basilio. He states clearly that its a rumor.

That's a hughmongous rumor. Looks like the relationship between HC and OC is getting a bit chilly.

But if Helton eventually ends up frozen out of his playcalling responsibilities, where do we go from there for an OC? Is it possible there is some brilliant, out-of-work coach that we could bring in from out of the cold to escort our offense back to the upper echelons of this league?

Yeah, he’s a quality control coach on staff...Joe Osovet.

Tony B is a joke. Dude makes up rumors to keep his texas roadhouse dinners coming in from his radio show. Can anyone name a time a rumor only he reported actually turned out to be true?

I like Osovet, but he's still a bit green in terms of familiarity with this league. He would be a hughge risk, IMO.

I'm thinking there's got to be someone out there that understands the cold realities of the SEC. Someone who's weathered the slings and arrows, and proven that they have ice in their veins. Gotta be someone we could call up, even if we have to pay a pretty penny for the privilege.

So Friend draws up the blocking, creates the scheme, creates the pass route combos, but someone else calls the plays, that doesn’t pass the smell test to me
I agree. None of this does. The TB rumor included. Although I stick by what I see on the field. Our offense looks more like a Friend offense then a Helton offense.

Tony was dead on about the Haslams trying to control everything behind the scenes way before all of it became public knowledge.

I’ve never watched a friend offense so I’m going to have to watch some videos before I can comment on the last part of your post

Well our offense does look confused most of the time hahaha. Especially the O-Line

I was just being cute. Matthews said Sunday that none of our guys know how to run an I-formation offense. It becomes too predictable if you don't mix in a tremendous amount of misdirection. He said we didn't have any misdirection against Florida. I don't know.

The Minnesota coach eating the ice cream in the blizzard a few years ago? Is that what you are implying?

what? that wasn't some top secret info that he "broke".........lol. unless he's the only place you get your information from...?

i dont' think our O line knows who to block or when. they get confused pretty easily. you see guys go one way and let a defender run right by them. you can take that same issue to the TE's and backs at times as well. Pope was particularly bad SAturday night and DWA hasn't been awesome at it either. all the backs have shown some issues with it as well.

not trying to pile on the players here, just going out of my way to agree with you. they have a lot to learn. they're thinking too much right now. they aren't recongizing and reacting. they're guessing.

He would be ok, but I think we need a proven SEC guy. Someone who is a stone-cold lock to succeed in this league. A man who can dial 'em up and score early and often. And no shame if we have to shell out some cash; at this point, we're pretty desperate.

I had always thought that if Leach took the job, then Dormady would have stuck around and thrived in his offense because it was similar to what he played in Texas high school football. Combine that with our WR's, probably the position group strength of our team, and I think the Leach offense would have minimized the terrible O-line play because it would get the ball out quick. That's what Leach has done at his other stops where he can't get SEC-quality linemen. With Leach maybe we win one of the two games we lost, and have a chance at 6-7 wins this year.

All that said, despite the short term success that Leach might have had, I think that Pruitt is a better long term solution for success in this league. I'd love to see Leach coach at a blue blood power where he could get top 10 recruiting classes just to see what his ceiling really is, but my guess is that he wouldn't have much more success over time than Butch did, he'd just get there in a different way, doing more with less.

SEC is a LOS league. That is why Fulmer hired JP instead of Leach. With Leach we would have perpetually been the TT or WSU of the SEC. And yeah, Leach might have been better on O with the current roster. But the D might be worse.

I 100% agree with this!

Yeah, Matthews was taslking about the coaches not the players but I suppose it could apply to the players as well. I see a lot of people harping on the predictability of our offense, really, I guess more the playcalling. I agree on the confused nature of our offensive line. As I understand it the offensive line has to be able to perform like a man-to-man defense in basketball. Sometimes you have to switch and if someone gets open, if you're the closest, most of the time he's got to be your man. We just don't play well together and I think even the coaches agree that is largely because we haven't established much continuity among the guys we have out there. Pruitt said we've established a rotation of 8 guys and maybe Chance Hall is in the 8 or maybe he's the 9th guy. I wasn't clear on how he phrased that. Anyway he felt like we had to establish depth (identify the rotation) before we could begin to build continuity. It sort of makes sense if you think about it. jmo.
